I LOVE LOVE LOVE Snow Like Ashes. I'm so conflicted between Theron and Mather Though.
HI! I absolutely LOVE SLA too! :)
I get what you feel about being conflicted between Theron and Mather. At the beginning of SLA I was ALL FOR Mather. He was just so sweet and he did nice things for Meira and she loved him, so I loved him, but then everything happened and Theron comes and he’s absolutely perfect. He’s sweet, he loves and appreciates art and literature, and he’s a babe, like who wouldn’t fall for this guy. AND on top of all of that, he goes and tries to help Meira while Mather doesn’t really do anything.
That’s something that’s touched on in the Ice Like Fire excerpt from Mather’s POV, but I’ll get to that later, so the way that everything played out in SLA made me go towards Theron, I mean the guy is almost perfect.
Now back to the ILF excerpt. I have been saying lately that Mather needs to step up his game if he’s going to win the fandom over and with the excerpt and being able to get into Mather’s head in book 2, I think that’s what’s got me personally feeling conflicted about the two. Yes, Theron is perfect, but Mather is cute and he doesn’t think that he deserves Meira and he got thrown aside at the end of SLA and the way that he lived his life believing that he was one person when he really wasn’t and suddenly having to change his outlook on life is just A LOT and I just want to hold him and make him feel better.
Sorry, I kind of went off course a bit, but yeah, I am so with you there on being conflicted between the two.

It has been so interesting seeing where readers fall on the Theron/Mather issue! With SNOW LIKE ASHES, I didn’t *really* intend to skew it one way or another — I just let the characters do what they felt they needed to do, and it just happened that one kind of trumped the other.
Barring spoilers, that’s really all I can promise — that I always stay true to the characters ;D
