Will you be going to BookCon on Saturday or Sunday or ever?

I’ll be at BEA on Thursday, but alas, no BookCon this year!

I just saw your last post where you answered the question of what to do when you want to be an author one day and I immediately went to a new tab and looked up meet the robinsons quotes. I love that movie! What is your favorite newer disney movie? ps pleas

Hm, newer Disney favorite…well, I’m afraid I gotta say Tangled! Tho Brave was pretty epic as well. And honestly, I always gotta belt the hell out of Let It Go, so I won’t say no to Frozen either. Basically, just anything Disney, because really.

I just finished Snow Like Ashes today and just wanted to let you know that I LOVED THE BOOK! Especially the Chemistry between Theron and Meira!! And I would love to know what you would advise someone who also wants to become an author one day?

THANK YOU DARLING.

The piece of advice I always give is a quote from Meet the Robinsons (well, actually, it’s from Walt Disney, but anyway): Keep Moving Forward. Perseverance is the only difference between a published author and an unpublished one!

How to I become more confident in myself? I know this is a tricky question. I don't hate myself, I just sometimes feel like I'm not good enough for people, or moments of serious self doubt come swooping in? Ahh yeah, any ideas?☺️ Also I think you're such

You’re right - becoming more confident in yourself is tricky, but it’s 100% doable and 120% worth it. A great way to start is by bullshitting.

Like, bullshit a lot. Frequently and with aplomb. When you stumble into the bathroom first thing in the morning and your hair’s a mess and you got dark circles under your eyes and all your night pimples have come creeping back, you look your reflection dead in the eyes and go “I’m fucking gorgeous.” Or, if you’re feeling a little more realistic, “I may look like trash, but at least I’m cute trash.” (#Actual things I’ve said to myself.)

Compliment yourself ALL THE TIME. That outfit you put together? Nice job, Self, that’s a frickin masterpiece. That hair? Like an ethereal windswept goddess. This paper you wrote? Probably a bunch of bullshit, but damn if it’s not artfully faked. Your legs in those shorts? Make a dragon wanna retire, man.

Start by focusing on the things you really, really like about yourself already and build from there.

Be shameless in this self love. Take selfies. Check out your reflection often. Don’t immediately look for flaws in your own face when you see it. I know that’s everyone’s first impulse, but fight that sumbitch. Just focus on seeing the radiant awesomeness that is you when you look upon your own glory. (But take great pleasure in deleting the selfies you don’t like.)

It’s not just about your appearance, of course; self-love and self-confidence are a total package sort of effort. Step two is to give less fucks. Realize that nobody really gives a fuck about most of the things you’re doing, and watch how your anxiety about what these people think melts away. Be confident in all your actions, and if you’re not actually confident, fake it. Stand up straight, make eye contact, talk loudly. Nobody can tell the difference AND once you practice enough it’ll be real. Marvel at how people accept this aura of confidence and listen to you.

Do nice things for yourself. Wear crazy-ass bright colors that tickle your fancy. Try a fun new work out. Get a milkshake. Do both, or neither. Check yourself out naked and admire your naked ass. Masturbate. Do stuff for the sake of Treat Yo Self.

Don’t ever apologize for wearing out there clothes or eating unhealthy food or the music you like or the stuff that makes you happy. As much as you can, surround yourself by people who make you feel good and validated and awesome. But also remember that you will be okay on your own. You and you alone have gotten you through everything that’s ever happened to you in your life. You’re fucking awesome.

Will there be off days? Of course. Everybody has those days where they just can’t get the eyeliner right or they reallyreally need a hair cut and their hair looks cross or they have to wear those pants that make them feel bloated and uncomfortable. At some point everyone worries what someone else thinks of them or second-guesses their decisions. Shake it off. Make the best of it anyway and keep doing you.

VALIDATE YOURSELF. Nobody else is obligated to do it for you, so tell yourself every single day how great and awesome and hot and smart and funny and badass you are. It’s true.

This barely scratches the surface, really, and I could probably write a book on this, but I hope Confidence 101 here can help you out some :)

How am I able to get a copy of Ice Like Fire for review? It's not out here in Australia. Thanks!

It’s up for request on Edelweiss, and over the summer there will be a few different giveaways on my Tumblr as well as Goodreads!
