Hi! I read Snow Like Ashes not long ago and just saw the ask you answered about the chakram. I had no idea it was a real weapon! Super cool! I looked it up and saw it was from India. I had pictured the Autumn peoples as Native American/Canadian and given t

In my head, the Autumn Kingdom has a culture inspired by a blend of Indian/Middle Eastern (hence the chakram). Book 3 explores their kingdom a lot more though, so next year I’ll have all kinds of in-depth goodies about the mysterious fourth Season Kingdom! (Hint: They’re my favorite. Don’t tell Winter.)

No, it’ll be fun! I promise! And, better still, it’ll be EASY!

Hi Sara! I absolutely adore your book Snow Like Ashes and I am beyond excited to read Ice Like Fire. I am an aspiring author. I am working on the 5th draft of my independent novel and I am also working on the second draft *shudders because revision is scar

You have two novels going at once? And you’re thirteen? Am I talking through some kind of space-time continuum to Young Author Sara? Because that’s exactly the type of person I was. *high fives*

So, it’s fitting then to give the kind of advice I would have given to Young Author Sara, which is:

This industry will throw a lot of rejections at you, but if you want it, persistence is the only difference between a published author and an unpublished author.

Hi!! *fangirling* I just wanted to say I absolutely loved SNOW LIKE ASHES! I was also wondering if you could tell me a little bit about how you pick your character names and kingdom names, because they are fantastic? (PS: props to whoever designed your boo

Usually, character/place names come based on what type of culture each kingdom has – for instance, the Kingdom of Ventralli’s culture has a lot of Venetian/Italian cultural influences, so all of the people from that kingdom have Italian-inspired names.

Other characters in SLA got their names because they were named as such way back when I was a wee authorling and first wrote the draft when I was twelve. Meira has been Meira for more than half my life. Which is terrifying and awesome.
