My life came to me with no certainties or guarantees. I can only play the cards I’m dealt. Sometimes I play well, sometimes I play bad, and sometimes, ‘shit happens’. That’s life.

I was born in Townsville, North Queensland, Australia. I spent my early childhood as a Post Office Bedouin due to my father’s employment. When I joined the Army at young age, I became a military nomad, never being posted in the one place long enough to understand what made it tick. I left the military for the corporate world. Today, I live in Melbourne, Australia with my wife and our two children.

Somewhere in amongst the 'business of earning a living,' I completed a Bachelors Degree, a couple of Graduate Diplomas, and a Masters Degree. I'm not sure why. Wh My C.V.

What I learned in academic land has been of little use to me. My real lessons have been learnt outside of educational institutions. They come from life herself. In the main, I've found her to be unforgiving, intolerant, unrelenting, uncompromising, and mostly never fair. I've had no better teacher.

Growing Up

Seriously, if I had of known what my childhood was going to be like, I wouldn’t have bothered turning up for it. I would have taken a bus instead, and jumped off at the stop marked ‘Adult,’ bypassing my childhood completely. Gawd, it was a mess. School never worked for me and neither did home, hence I bolted from both when legally able to do so. At the age of fifteen, I dropped out and tuned out of most things and went bush for three years. I was angry at the world and some of the people in it for reasons I never fully understood until many years later.

I had no singular 'rite of passage' from childhood to adult, instead I had many. Each one different. Each 'rite of passage' a separate journey. During my teenage years and even younger, I made these journey's alone, I had no guiding hand. The paths I travelled exposed me to the good, the bad, and the ugly of life. But, no regrets from me. I’ve been lucky in my life, fortunate indeed. Not as lucky as some, but more fortunate than others. Complaints, I have none. No more than the usual gripes we all suffer from.

Today

Despite being made redundant once, and getting sacked once for being sick (so much for Australian employment laws), I can look back on my past of being an ex-stockman, ex-military man and an ex-corporate man, knowing full well those jobs and experiences have qualified me for having done a few things in my time. My path hasn’t been the easiest one to travel at times, but it was my path, it was my call, and my decision to travel it. It’s worked for me so far, I’m doing OK from it. Now, I've reinvented myself again, this time as a writer. My first book, I Taught God to Gamble has recently been published.

Overall I'm doing OK from life, not as good as some, but better than others. I hope the path that you have chosen to follow in your life turns out to be just as exciting, fulfilling, and as interesting as my path is for me.
