Coming Soon
As we get closer to 2020 — winter snow is already on the ground here in Minnesota — it’s a good time to let you in on books coming your way in 2020. And I’ll be keeping you busy.
My new Minnesota stand-alone thriller THIEF RIVER FALLS arrives on February 1. It’s available for pre-order now in hardback, e-book, paperback, and audio. This intensely emotional thriller is one of my all-time favorites among my novels. It’s a gripping ride through the life of a writer in northwestern Minnesota whose world gets turned upside down in horrifying ways. “Smart, wickedly suspenseful and full of truly shocking twists, Thief River Falls is also a moving tale about family,” says Edgar Award-winning novelist Alison Gaylin.
But THIEF RIVER FALLS is just the beginning.
I’ve also been tapped by Putnam and the Robert Ludlum estate to carry on Ludlum’s Jason Bourne series — one of the great honors of my creative life — and I just turned in the completed Bourne novel last week. So you can look for Jason Bourne to return next summer in a book that is hugely fun and exciting. It was one of the most enjoyable projects I’ve ever worked on. More news on that book very soon!
Want more? Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about Jonathan Stride. He’ll be back in Duluth in an all-new “ripped from the headlines” thriller FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND due out from Blackstone next fall.
Oh, and as if all of that isn’t enough, my New York Times bestseller THE DEEP, DEEP SNOW (which was released this summer as an audiobook exclusive and has more than 10,000 reviews on Audible) will finally appear in e-book and paperback in 2020.
So get ready for an exciting year of reading!

Sneaking into a Movie
From Marcia at facebook.com/theauthorswife:
Although it may seem like there hasn’t been a lot of activity in the Freeman household during these past few months…in fact, quite the opposite has been true. Although we’ve cut back on our travel and events schedule significantly, Brian has been busily writing away on several projects…!
Just last week, he turned in the next book in the Jonathan Stride series…FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND. (We love that title.)
And next week, he’ll turn in the new Jason Bourne book…! We don’t have final word on the title, yet, but as soon as we do, we’ll let you know…of course…!
We can’t wait to see what the publishers do with cover art for each of those books.
Book covers are always a fun part of the whole author/publisher partnership and over the years, Brian has had some truly amazing cover art used on his books…so it’s always fun to see his books appearing in various places. Recently, a very devoted fan of his saw one of his books used as a prop in a movie…! In the 2018 movie “Can You Ever Forgive Me” starring Melissa McCarthy (we loved her in the “Gilmore Girls” television series), there is a scene in a bookstore…and if you look at this picture VERY closely…you’ll see in the forefront…the cover of Brian’s second Jonathan Stride book, STRIPPED…! So exciting…!
BUT…here’s where the story becomes even more fun…! The movie is set in New York in 1991…but STRIPPED wasn’t actually published until 2006…!

See You at the Library
Lots of library events coming up in the next week!
This Saturday, I’m at the library in Osceola WI at 1:00 pm.
On Sunday, I’m down in Waukee, IA at the Lutheran Church of Hope at 2:00 pm, where my intense and topical thriller MARATHON is this year’s selection for the Dallas County Reads program.
And next Thursday, I’ll be at the North Mankato Taylor library at 6:00 pm.
At all three events, I’ll share fun stories from the last 15 years in the publishing business! I’ll take all of your questions…and I’ll give sneak previews of my 2020 releases, including the stand-alone Minnesota thriller THIEF RIVER FALLS and the next novel in the Duluth-based Jonathan Stride series, FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND. Oh — and I’ll also talk about being chosen to take over Robert Ludlum’s Jason Bourne series, with my first Bourne novel THE BOURNE CONSPIRACY due out in the summer of 2020.
My books will be available for sale and signing (remember, the holidays aren’t far away!).
Get all of the event details here.

The Freemans Eat Cake
From Marcia at facebook.com/theauthorswife:
One of the things that I like to do on this page is to tell you about some of the fun, funny and exciting things that happen to us. But sometimes, there’s really not too much to tell. This summer has been a great example of that.
As you probably already know, Brian has been busily working on multiple projects this summer—including a new Jonathan Stride novel…and a new novel in the Jason Bourne series by Robert Ludlum. This means that, instead of scheduling a lot of book events, we’ve been mostly home for the summer. We get up in the morning, have coffee together (with an occasional feline wandering though) and then Brian spends the day writing. The end of the day means a dinner at home or possibly out with friends.
And of course, there are errands to run. Just like everyone else…we have to go to places like the gas station, the hardware store, the grocery store, the pet food store…well, you get the picture. Pretty standard stuff, right…? Well, that is…until something exciting happens…as it just did…!
While Brian was out running a couple of errands, we both received an email from his literary agent. I was at home, so I saw the message first. But as soon as I opened it…I called Brian immediately and asked if he’d seen it yet. He hadn’t…so I told him he needed to check his email right away…! He said “okay” and we hung up.
Less than a minute later, my phone rang…and of course, it was Brian…telling me that he’d read the message and would be home as soon as he could…!
So, at this point, you’re probably wondering what that message said. Well, it was short…and simple…and it said:
“Brian, you’re NUMBER 12 on The NY Times audio bestseller list!!!!”
Indeed, that’s exactly the kind of message that every author looks forward to receiving…!
Brian’s audiobook, THE DEEP, DEEP SNOW (narrated by the talented actress January LaVoy), is on the August 2019 New York Times Bestseller List for Audio Fiction. Needless to say, it’s truly an honor…and we were thrilled with the news…! And yes, a bit of celebrating was in order…!
(And just FYI: For now, the book is only available in audio, but the wonderful folks at Blackstone Publishing will be producing print and e-book versions at a future date. Of course, we’ll let you know when we have further details about the release date.)

In just three weeks, we’ve had more than 2,700 reviews of THE DEEP, DEEP SNOW on Audible…more than any other audio edition of any of my books.
