50,000 FACEBOOK fans

A huge milestone has been reached today with the number of Disturbed Girl fans on Facebook breaking the 50,000 mark.

Since the first novel, A Disturbed Girl's Guide to Curing Boredom, was published in 2011, there has been a growing army of readers around the world who follow the twisted adventures of anti-hero Hannah Harker.

Author James Howell said: "I remember reaching 100 fans on Facebook, so to get to 50,000 is a bit unreal. I want every fan to know how grateful I am for their continuing support, and for the wonderful comments and reviews they have left."

James is currently working on new writing projects, while Hannah Harker's legacy lives on with the recent launch of the Disturbed Army, a community for everyone who celebrates originality, free-thinking and counter-culture. The Disturbed Army goes beyond Hannah's adventures and gives exposure to exciting and raw new creative talent across a range of different arts.

Meanwhile, Disturbed Girl Productions has also been set up to bring short movies to life. The debut presentation, Amber's Haunt , will arrive in summer 2014.

welcome to the disturbed army

A counter-cultural revolution begins today with the launch of the Disturbed Army.

The  Disturbed Army is an international community for everyone who rejects the orchestrated world of mass media, consumerism, social obedience, enforced routines and suppressed ambition.

In this new section of the website, there are blogs from Hannah Harker, forums for you to talk to other fans, and a unique discover area where you can learn about new artists, or even create your own page.

Everyone who signs up to join the army will get exclusive access to special content. Our premium subscriber option enables Hannah's most loyal followers to become Disturbed Warriors.

Hannah Harker, anti-hero of the Disturbed Girl novels, said: “The Disturbed Army aims to unite people who believe in originality, creativity, pleasure, adventure, discovery and living life on their own terms without regret.

“This is a hub where people can meet others who refuse to conform, and discover books, films, music, magazines and blogs that reflect these values.”

You can find out more and explore the new content here.

Film subsidiary Disturbed Girl Productions will launch its debut feature "Amber's Haunt" in summer 2014

The debut presentation from Disturbed Girl Productions is a short film by Joe James, the man behind barbaric-electro artist Himuro Mansion.

Disturbed Girl Productions is a new subsidiary of Amygdala Press that aims to bring visionary, provocative and original short films to the screen.

"Amber's Haunt" tells the story of Billie Amber, an 18-year-old girl drifting aimlessly as she struggles to deal with the aftermath of her father’s death.

While her friends move on with their lives, she remains tied to her mother, Agatha, who herself is trapped in a mental vortex, unable to cope with the loss.

One evening, Billie is sifting through her father’s belongings when she discovers a tattered photo album containing pictures of the bar her parents used to manage. It is clear that the bar was in fact a seedy strip club called “Amber’s Haunt”.

Angry and confused about her parents’ deception, she decides to investigate the club. It is a decision that will trigger a psychological nightmare that threatens to engulf and destroy her.

James Howell, author of the Disturbed Girl novels, is Executive Producer for "Amber's Haunt".

James said: "Joe has already produced some incredible music to accompany my novels, so when I heard he was working on a short film I was desperate to get on board. The screenplay is an absolute page-turner and I know that Joe and his team have some wild creative ideas to bring the story to life.

"Disturbed Girl Productions has been launched because I want Disturbed Girl to develop into a multi-media brand. My focus will always be on writing, but I want this website to become a platform for creatives of all types: writers, musicians, film-makers, photographers, you name it."

James added: "I don't believe in rules, but I do believe in certain ingredients that capture the ethos of the Disturbed Girl novels. These are complex and captivating female characters, themes that question society and challenge the status quo, and powerful stories that stay with you long after the final scene.

"There will be lots of brand new content on this site over the coming months, and some really innovative ways for fans to get involved and join the Disturbed Army! Watch this space."

Keep an eye on the "Amber's Haunt" page for updates, interviews, stills and trailers ahead of the film's release in summer 2014.
