Ghost Pictured in Pub Near Henry VIII’s Haunted Palace
Written by Russell Myers in Jan. 2015

Teacher Debbie Monteforte took the photo of her husband Alex and their son Raphael at Christmas – but they were in for a shock.
Look very closely and you can see that this pub is a favourite haunt of at least one regular.
For in the top-right corner of the grainy image, a tall ghostly figure is pictured lingering in the background of a happy family snap.
Teacher Debbie Monteforte took the photo of her husband Alex and their son Raphael at Christmas.
A family friend said: “Debbie took the pic and thought nothing of it. But when they looked at it on a computer it was plain to see the haunted face of a woman wearing a long dark coat behind them.
“The family insists there was no one standing behind them and there was no place to hang a coat.
“Even if there was someone standing there, they would have to be 8ft tall to appear like that. It’s beyond spooky.”
The Kings Arms Hotel is one of Britain’s oldest pubs and sits in the shadows of Hampton Court Palace, south west London.
The 300-year-old boozer, near King Henry VIII’s former residence, has a dark past.
In the 19th century, a boy is rumoured to have found his mother hanged in the building. The lad was so disturbed he threw himself out a window and died.
Both “ghosts” of the mum and son are said to have haunted the pub ever since.
A grey-haired lady is also said to appear in a bedroom window.

Moving Cross-Country Countdown (Moving Day)
Well, here we go…
The truck is packed, the cable is off, and the mail is being held. We’re really doing this.
I think I’m finally ready to leave. Though it’s bittersweet, we’ve said good-bye to all our friends and favorite places (I had to have Bojangles one last time, and I’ll probably swing by Smithfield’s for lunch today), we are headed off on a new adventure in the Pacific Northwest.
Job search update: I haven’t heard back from the school I Skyped with last week, but I have another phone interview with a different school today at noon. Is it a good thing or a bad thing that I’m so physically and emotionally exhausted from preparing to move that I could care less about an interview today? I’ll give it my all, but my heart’s not in this one. My mind is just in too many places.
Today Jacksonville, NC is a balmy 83 degrees with 65% humidity, which means I look like I’ve just stepped out of the shower at all times of the day, but today in Tumwater, WA it’s 60 degrees with 70% humidity. I’m not sure that’s any better, but I’ll take it.
Next time you hear from me I’ll be on the road!

My Review of Devil’s Kiss (Hellraisers #1)
Cover Blurb:
1762. James Sherbourne, Earl of Whitney, is a gambling man. Not for the money. But for the thrill, the danger–and the company: Whit has become one of the infamous Hellraisers, losing himself in the chase for adventure and pleasure with his four closest friends.
Which was how Whit found himself in a gypsy encampment, betting against a lovely Romani girl. Zora Grey’s smoky voice and sharp tongue entrance Whit nearly as much as her clever hands–watching them handle cards inspires thoughts of another kind. . .
Zora can’t explain her attraction to the careless blue-eyed Whit. She also can’t stop him and his Hellraisers from a fiendish curse: the power to grant their own hearts’ desires, to chase their pleasures from the merely debauched to the truly diabolical. And if Zora can’t save Whit, she still has to escape him. . .
My Thoughts:
Full disclosure–I stopped reading this book at the 50% mark when I lost all sympathy or interest in the hero and heroine.
However, I really enjoyed the first half. The author’s attention to detail is incredible. Her story is full of magic and the supernatural while at the same time rooted in a realistic historical setting. I chose this book specifically because it was recommended to me as a great example of the historical paranormal genre, which I’m very interested in. And I got into the story, but at some point I just lost interest. At the 50% mark the “magic” binding the hero and heroine together was gone. They were a couple, and it was obvious their major relationship roadblocks were gone. They were sexually attracted to each other. And they were each the most important person in each other’s lives.
Basically, the stakes were gone, and I gave up. Perhaps the conflict would have picked up again, but to be honest, I felt like the story was over and I wanted to move on to a new book.

Moving Cross-Country Countdown (T – 3 Days)
We said good-bye to more friends Sunday. My daughter had a birthday party at an ice skating rink, and had to say good-bye to three of her best friends (and three of the most amazing young ladies ever). I only cried twice. No biggie.
Thank goodness for email, texting, and Skype. It’ll almost feel like they’re still in the same city.
On top of planning a big party last weekend, I’m now falling behind on absolutely everything else. I literally haven’t packed a thing, even though we leave in three days. Mostly because I’m spending a lot of time at end-of-year school activities and scrambling to finish a couple projects I don’t want to leave half done.
Tomorrow I have to stop by the dentist for a quick check-up, and then I’ll be trapped in an auto repair shop for a couple hours while my truck gets a new set of brakes. Luckily, I’ll have my Kindle with me.
I did hear a great idea today from my friend Laura. To help deal with boredom on long car rides, she recommends buying a present for every day of the trip, wrap each one, and don’t let my daughter open more than one a day. The best part is, each gift is something crafty and tactile that takes upwards of an hour to complete. Things like modeling clay, a yarn loom, or a design-your-own jewelry box.
I love that idea, though it will take time I don’t have to find fun kits, wrap them, and pack them into suitcases I haven’t even pulled out of the closet yet.
What do you think?
