Progress

I saw the lightning flash

Across the sky

And heard the crash

Of thunder

And I

Paused to wonder

On those who stress

The inevitability of human progress

I walk through

Fallen leaves

And compose a rhyme

To Eve

And Paradise Lost.

Who took off her head,

And said, “I am dead!”.

That girl is forever blocking the stair!
