What

What
Lies
Beneath
The
Pure
White

Shall I Compare Thee?

Shall I compare thee to a prickly pear?
Thou art more fair
Than the wild rose
That in thorny profusion grows.
There the bee goes
Then stings my nose

Heart

A girl’s skin gold.
Her arms enfold.
Lips tease.
Hands please
A cold
Heart.
Life imitates art.
She has played her part.
Now the applause start.

Candle ‘n’ Memories by Blair Gaulton

A beautiful thought provoking poem. Kevin

Toutons Tubas and Other Tales

Candle ‘n’ Memories
The candle glows;
then goes;
out.
Smoke carries;
memories off into the distance.

Demons

Walking the old familiar track.
There is no turning back.
I lack
The will
To drill
Down and discover
What lies under cover.
It is not buried deep
For when I sleep
Memories creep
Out
And demons shout
In my ear.
It is always near
The old familiar fear.
mocking laughter
echoing down the years.

Couple

Must the writer forever analyse?
What is that look in her eye?
I wonder whether
They will stay together?
No hurry
Over their curry.
They flirt.
Will he get desert?

Forthcoming Poetry Collection

A friend asked me recently whether I intend to publish a further collection of my poetry. The answer is yes, I aim to publish a further collection in early 2016.
Drawing together the book will entail reading through poems and determining what (and what not) to include. It also means deciding which poems to publish (as is) and which to amend. Finally the book will be proof read by a professional proof reader. As regards the latter, I always publish my poetry as written by me (poetry is a very...

This post (http://aopinionatedman.com/2015/12/09/copyright-online-theft-and-blogging/) prompted me to post a Copyright Notice (http://newauthoronline.com/copyright-notice/) on this site. I had fully intended to add such a notice for some considerable time. I had, however not got round to doing so until today.

Good Poets Borrow, Great Poets Steal…

A fascinating post. Kevin

Protect | and | Leverage

A reporter for NPR’s Morning Edition used my favorite misquote in her “Stanford Center Advocates for Fair Use on the Web” piece that aired on May 7, 2007. Though the quote is usually attributed to T.S. Eliot, the reporter attributed a slightly altered version of “Good poets borrow, great poets steal” to Picasso, this time it was “good artists copy, great artists steal.”

I heard the quote “good poets borrow, great poets steal” for the first ti...
