There Was A Young God Called Horus
There was a young god called Horus
Who swallowed a thesaurus.
When his friend said “it will get wet”,
He replied “I have never yet
Eaten one that is not porous!”.

There Was A Young Lady Called Gale
There was a young lady called Gale
Who stole from the Royal Mail.
The judge did frown
As he sent her down
And she quaked at the thought of jail.

There Was A Young Man Called Ray
There was a young man called Ray
Who could not his bills pay.
When the bailiffs came to his house
They found nought but a mouse
So in sorrow went away.

This Wet Tree
Guest post; Owl
Many thanks to Roberta for publishing my poem “Owl” as a guest post on her blog.
I have lain awake listening for the owl’s cry.
A note that chills
Thrills
Then does die.
One day
This bird of prey
Will carry my soul away,
Or so the supersticious say.
Mice hide
While I, in my pride
Decide
The owl’s erie cry
Signifies that I will die.
The bird has no interest in me
So why can I not be free
Of his cry
That to my window nigh
does rise, then, as suddenly, die?

Remarked “I am all bowled out.
There is no need to shout,
Indeed I have nothing left to say”.

There Was A Young Lady Called Lorraine

That I meant to board a plane …!”

Five Fascinating Facts about The Merchant of Venice
I went to see the Merchant of Venice with friends a month or so ago. It is a wonderful play and raises interesting questions regarding antisemitism. On the one hand Shylock is a very unpleasant character demanding his “pound of flesh” which he knows will lead to the death of Antonio. On the other hand he is insulted due to his jewishness (the antisemitism in the play makes one feel deeply uncomfortable and, in my view Shakespeare does have some sympathy for Shylock).

“He is with his golfing partner Rolfe!”

There was a young lady called Louise
Who kept a hive of bees.
When people asked, “Do they sting?”,
She said, “That’s the thing,
And they are very fond of cheese …!”
