The Wind
As I walked home alone
Thinking on my poetry
The wind in the tree
Spoke to me.
Oh how often he
Breaks through
And tells me what is true!

Indoctrination?
Yesterday evening, I got into a vigorous debate with an acquaintance regarding the wearing of the full Islamic face veil and the Burka. The discussion reminded me of this post, https://newauthoronline.com/2018/06/03/leave-women-free-to-dress-as-they-please/, in which I defend the right of women to wear the clothing of their choosing.
My acquaintance argued that while many Muslim women may not be “forced” to don the full face veil or the Burka, that they are “indoctrinated” into wearing these...

Raining
As a long, hot summer slowly draws to its close in the UK, we have, thankfully (at long last) been experiencing bouts of rain. On the way home from the pub yesterday evening my guide dog Trigger and I got drenched to the skin in the wet stuff and (in accordance with the great law of sod) the rain virtually ceased as we reached my front door!

The title poem runs thus:
“You accuse me of hiding in my ivory tower.
I answer that I have no power,
Other than my pen
Which, when
It scratches,
Sometimes catches
The truth of the matter,
Causing the fine porcelain
Of yo...

I Met A Young Lady Called Claire
I met a young lady called Claire
Who requested a sordid affair.
Being a most moral man
I said “what is your plan
To conceal this sordid affair?”
Mr Brooke On Reason
“Young ladies don’t understand political economy, you know,” said Mr. Brooke, smiling towards Mr. Casaubon. “I remember when we were all reading Adam Smith. THERE is a book, now. I took in all the new ideas at one time–human perfectibility, now. But some say, history moves in circles; and that may be very well argued; I have argued it myself. The fact is, human reason may carry you a little too far–over the hedge, in fact. It carried me a good way at one time; but I saw it would not do. I pul...

I was delighted to receive the braille edition of my collection of poems, “The Writer’s Pen and Other Poems” through the post today.
