Ghosts

Mick Canning

Untitled-Grayscale-02

Ghosts;

Walking through the rooms

Of an empty house.

Seeking the past.

Their silent breathing,

No more than dust motes

Floating in afternoon sunlight.

Their shadows,

Moving in the no wind.

Old footprints appearing in the dust,

And going nowhere.

Nowhere,

Now.

The ghosts of past happiness.

I Know A Young Lady Called Ling

I know a young lady called Ling
Who is extremely left-wing.
But on meeting a man called Night
Who is of the centre-right
I confess they had a fling!

A Philosophical Young Lady Called Mable

A philosophical young lady called Mable
Dressed in the colour sable.
When a young man named Guy
Asked her “why?”
She said “Existence is merely a fable!”.

There Was A Young Lady Called Moore

There was a young lady called Moore
Who all the men adore.
When she fluttered her eye
At a priest named Guy
He thought on the Canon Law!

Pontificate

There was a young lady called Kate
Who liked to pontificate.
She insisted that she was right
And every night
Kate would prate and prate!

Out Of Time

I see a line
Of pert
Girls who flirt.
But I find
That they have time
On their mind.

On hot nights
They pass in tites
Or with legs bare.
Black or white
I do not care.
But when clocks chime
We are out of time.

Beer in the library

I have long been a fan of traditional pubs, and when one adds into the mix a library, the Westow House is definitely my kind of establishment.

Some 25 minutes walking distance from my home in Crystal Palace, stands the Westow, a traditional pub. I haden’t visited the place for a while however, on Sunday 2 September I decided to treat myself to a good old-fashioned pub roast and a pint. I got to the Westow at approximately 12:30 as I wanted to gain a seat in a quiet corner with plenty of room...

I Know A Young Lady Called More

I know a young lady called More
Who all the men adore.
When she flutters her eye
All gentlemen sigh
But she rarely gives them more …

I know a young lady called More
Who all the men adore.
Each night at bedtime
I compose a rhyme,
Which always makes her snore!

I know a young lady called More
Who all the men adore.
My friend Louise
Is a terrible tease
But she’s nothing compared to More!

I know a young lady called More
Who tied me up at 4.
Her husband Ken
Came home at 10
And kicked me out the d...
