A panel at Princeton, March 9th

I’m not the best at telling people where I’m going to be, because I’m not that into self-promotion, honestly.

Michaela Coel is Laughing Her Way to the Top

Michaela Coel is undoubtedly on a roll. To say that Coel is multi-talented seems like an understatement. Her credits list singer-songwriter, screenwriter, producer and poet to name a few.

The creator of the hilarious and raunchy award-winning E4 sitcom, Chewing Gum is making her mark in British television. On May 8th, British Television saw the best and brightest celebrating a year’s worth of entertainment achievements at the 2016 British Academy Television Awards.

Adorned in a dress made by her mother, Michaela Coel stole the hearts of many and won the coveted BAFTA TV Awards for Best Female Performance in a Comedy for her role in E4’s Chewing Gum.

Earlier this year, Coel won the Breakthrough Talent prize at the BAFTA TV Craft Awards. Coel used her platform to advocate for diversity stating during her acceptance speech, “I guess I’d probably take this time to urge anyone from an ethnic minority background, women, people deemed as otherwise disabled, to get behind the camera, not just in front of it. To start writing the stories if you want them to be told.” (x)

Chewing gum is on Netflix and freaking hilarious
