Fifty Shades of Plaid – or why Lizzie loves a kilted hero

I think the element of ‘costume’ removes the hero from the real world and transports both him and the reader into the realm of fantasy. The costumed hero is, generally, aristocratic – and while he does not have to work to earn his daily crust, he often has emotional scars which only the heroine can heal. It is a great delight to welcome author Justin Lee Anderson to A Woman’s Wisdom this afternoon. Justin has written a book called Carpet Diem which I recently reviewed (see my review here). A farcical thriller, which reminded me of reading Tom Sharpe, it is full of laugh out loud moments and I LOVED it!

Born in Edinburgh, Justin spent a decade of his childhood bouncing around the US, following his dad’s pro...

Scotch on the Rocks - pre order

Yay. The day I’ve been dreaming of this since I started writing Scotch on the Rocks just over a year ago. Not quite publication day, but close. I’ve loved writing this book and I owe a big debt to my writer and non-writer friends who have read it, commented and made suggestions along the way. Writing this novel has involved at least two research trips to Scotland (it’s a dirty job – what ca...

LOVE CAN’T BE HURRIED, NOR CAN A SECOND NOVEL

book2My second novel Twins of a Gazelleis out, a mere six months later than my NR4 co-conspirators’ got out their seconds, the other fab three, Adrienne, June and Lizzie. My small band of readers are probably wondering, ‘So, what took you so long?’ Taking my cue from The Supremes’ “You Can’t Hurry Love”, I couldn’t hurry Twins of a Gazelle. No matter how hard I tried, I just had to take as long as it took. How(see below) will probably explain everything.

Way back in February, Sarah Houldcroft tol...

Beach Reads Blog Tour

My ideal holiday spot for relaxing and reading? Cromarty. (From the shipping forecast? Forties, Cromarty, Forth, Tyne and Dogger.) The tiny historic town at the tip of the Black Isle, way up in the north of Scotland has warm seas (Gulf Stream), seals, kites and bottlenose dolphins. The rest of the f...

A few lines about my ideal holiday destination where I can sit back and relax with a book

My ideal holiday destination where I can kick back, relax and read a book would be an air conditioned villa whose garden leads on to a tropical beach. That being unlikely in the grand scheme of things, I’ll settle for our caravan on the edge of...
