Reckless Love Excerpt

After I put Levi to bed, I’m on a mission to get to Elle. Disappointment slaps me in the face when I realize she went to her room. I stare at her closed door and walk toward my room, then stop and turn back toward hers…more times than I want to admit. 
I respect a closed door…but I know her. I know she’s in there worrying about what happened between us. I know she’s never quite right after seeing Carrie, no matter how many times it’s been now. 
I know that she kissed me back and that her body is begging to be worshipped, begging for me. 
I know that she wanted me as much as I wanted her.
Without overthinking it another second, I knock lightly on her door.


“Yes?” she calls.


“Can I come in?”


There’s only the briefest pause before she says, “Come in.”


I open the door and chuckle when I find her room dark. “You didn’t waste any time getting into bed.”


“I didn’t know how long it would take Levi to settle down…”


“Mm-hmm.” I walk toward her bed so I can see her a little better. “Once I told him you’d be here tomorrow too, he took Pretzel and laid right down.”


“That teddy bear is the best investment I ever made.”
I hear the smile in her voice and it warms me from the inside out.


“I wanted to make sure you’re okay after…earlier,” I say.


She looks up at me, her hair splayed out on the pillow, the moonlight and nightlight shining from the open door of her bathroom casting an ethereal glow over her.
“I’m okay…besides the lingering embarrassment that I’m a complete hussy.”


I choke back a laugh. “Tell me how you can possibly define yourself as a complete hussy.”


“You saw the way I—”

She waves her hand toward my body, and I lift the covers, motioning for her to scoot over. “What are you doing?”


“I’m not letting you get out of talking about this, my filthy hussy.”
She snorts.

“I can call myself that, but you’re not allowed...and I never said filthy…”


I laugh and turn to face her, tugging on her to face me too. We stare at each other for a few moments, and I’m nervous, but this also feels more right than anything ever has.

Secret Love Excerpt

“I’m so glad you’re here.”

He leans in and kisses me once. So soft and sweet. 
He steps back and I want to pull him in again, run my fingers through his hair and kiss him until we’re both breathless.
But he takes my hand and leads me into the kitchen where I can tell he’s been working hard. There’s a pile of dishes in the sink, a massive wooden bowl of Caesar salad and bottles of alcohol on the island, with limes and lemon zest in pretty little glass bowls.


I inhale and sigh. “It smells so good in here.”


“I hope you meant it when you said you like spinach and mushroom lasagna. I made my mom’s recipe.”


My stomach does a little flip-flop. “You remember everything, don’t you? I think I said that during one of our first texts.” 


“I remember everything about you.” He smirks.

“Are you trying to seduce me, Henley Ward?”

“Is it working?”
Now I’m the one smirking.

“Spinach and mushroom lasagna sounds delicious.”


“Would you like a cocktail or wine?”


I point to the lemon vodka. “I can’t resist anything with lemon.”
“

One lemon drop coming right up, tiny dancer.”

My heart cannot take all this swoonworthiness. Made-up word, but it’s entirely how I feel.
“Can I do anything to help?”


“You standing there looking the way you do in my kitchen is extremely helpful. Except you’re taking my breath away, so I suggest you keep a safe distance. I want to feed you, but these hands have a mind of their own.”

He holds up his hands and waves his long, thick fingers. 
My mind goes straight to the way those skilled fingers worked me over, and I flush. He smiles like he knows exactly where my mind is. It’s the sexiest thing when he mixes the drink in the shaker; his forearms make my mouth water. He pours the drink into a pretty glass and garnishes it with a twist of lemon zest.


“You’re not having one?” I ask when he hands it to me.


He grabs a glass and lifts a bottle of Jameson. “I’ll have this.”

He pours the amber liquid into the glass and taps it against mine. “To a spectacular date.”


“Oh, this is a date?” I can’t stop smiling.


“It’s absolutely a date.” He can’t stop smiling either. 


“Good to know. To a spectacular date then.” I tap his glass again and we take a sip of our drinks.

“Oh, that’s so good.”
He leans over and kisses me.

“Agreed,” he says. “So good.”

He points to the table. “Have a seat. You’re tempting me with those pretty lips.”
