Descendants #76 – Silicon Soul, Adamantine Will (Chp. 4)

This entry is part 56 of 49 in the series CurrentBeing outnumbered by dozens of unskilled fighters didn’t concern Adamantine. She was strong enough and fast enough that she would have no problem incapacitating every one of them while fighting off the Legion of One and her design ancestor.

But the people bearing down on her weren’t normal attackers; they were the very citizens she’d been commissioned to protect. None of them deserved to be on the wrong end of the six hundred and thirty-eight pa...

Secret Identities: Theory and Practice

When you ask someone to describe a ‘superhero’, you’ll probably get a laundry list of basics that are by and large completely optional for making a good superhero. The thing is, even casual fans know there are glaring exceptions to those rules. I’ve already covered what really matters in the superhero genre in another post .

You know how it is: people say ‘cape’ and you can point to Captain America. They say ‘powers’ and you can point to Batman. But then you get to secret identities, and unless...

Magic Club 5 #3 – Of Wolf and Women

This entry is part 3 of 3 in the series Magi Club 5“Are you sure we should split up like this?” Jeremy asked on the walk back to campus.

Jennifer wasn’t, but tried to sound like she did. “Elle and Theresa are right under the noses of about a dozen cops. And Theresa will keep Elle on task. They’ll be fine.”

“We could have waited for them.”

“I don’t think we can wait that long. Angela refused to talk on the phone and begged you to come to her dorm room. That sounds like she’s afraid.”

Jeremy frowne...

Descendants #76 – Silicon Soul, Adamantine Will (Chp. 3)

This entry is part 55 of 55 in the series CurrentMeanwhile, on the other side of the city, Brent Atherton, one of Mayor Raymond’s top financial backers, was just leaving the master bathroom of his luxury apartment overlooking Central Park. He and his wife had the entire floor to themselves, shouting to ask here where she wanted to go for lunch was pointless. Instead, he made his way across their bedroom to retrieve his palmtop so as to call her.

He had just picked up the device when the glass...

Villainous Traits (That Aren’t Used Enough)

I promised at the end of last article that this week would feature ‘the many faces of Godzilla’ in honor of the building hype for the new movie . When I went to write it though, it occurred to me that It’s been years since I’ve really binged on kaiju films and the only ones I actually own are Godzilla: Final Wars , Toyko SOS, and Giant Monsters: All-Out Attack . Then, in my mounting panic, I realized that my local Blockbuster quietly closed while I was going through that period where My DVD driv...

Rune Breaker: Chapter 47 – Reclamation

This entry is part 5 of 5 in the series Evil Unto Evil (Rune Breaker, #4)Brin took her time exiting the hansom, extracting the Barratta from where it leaned on the other side of the carriage’s cabin, and adjusting her clothes. All the while, she observed the real Layaka Emeries. Though there were similarities about the face that left no mistake that whichever of the demons forged Partha’s body had seen this girl or her near relations, she was a far cry from the fragile, excitable girl who had...

Descendants #76 – Silicon Soul, Adamantine Will (Chp. 2)

This entry is part 54 of 54 in the series CurrentBrother Wright sat at his ease in his executive chair at the head of the conference table. Beside him on his right, Shine was only half-paying attention, most of her focus directed to her tablet computer. To his left, Leo, the android member of Aces High, stood at silent attention.

Across from those three sat the Legion of One. The cold had finally forced him to forgo his usual shirtlessness in favor of an army drab turtleneck so tight that his...

‘Wit Style: Why Gambit is My Favorite Superhero

This article has been a long time coming. I’ve mentioned it, discussed bits and pieces of it with readers on the forum, and all but apologized about this issue over the past few months. Well, the time has come to talk about my favorite superhero in all of comic and make my case for why while also revealing how this fact has influenced the stories I write.

So here it goes folks, hold on to your butts.

——

His name is Remy LeBeau, codename: Gambit.

Surprisingly, he’s one of the newer additions to th...

Imago – S1E1 “Pilot” – Act III

‘Naked’ wasn’t the best way to describe the hologram’s appearance. It wore no clothes, yes, but there really wasn’t anything to cover up. In shape, it resembled a female of any one of the few dozen bipedal mammalian species that populated the galaxy, the product of an ancient seeding program of long-forgotten origin, and the stock from which Nictus Trio were originally created. Shape was where those similarities ended, as aside from a very basic face with a mouth, nose and eyes, the image ha...

Descendants #76 – Silicon Soul, Adamantine Will (Chp. 1)

This entry is part 53 of 53 in the series CurrentThe complex internal mechanism of the outer door of Lab 2700 made several chunk sounds as four inch diameter steel bolts were disengaged from the door frame, followed by a series of beeps as security protocols went green.

Shortly, it slowly swung open on whisper bearings to reveal Her Honor, Sarah Raymond, mayor of New York City and one of her bodyguards. Rosy cheeked from the city’s cold December, the mayor’s bearing and expression were anythin...
