Oak Alley Plantation!
This is the Oak Alley Plantation in Louisiana. We visited it last year on our way back from New Orleans.
It was gorgeous to see, but one of the first times I’ve ever visited a historical site and saw slave quarters. What was interesting though is that a slave who lived their in the mid 1860’s was big into plant grafting and breeding. He invented a type of pecan tree called a “papershell.”
The crazy thing is that we have a papershell tree in our back yard at our house in Texas! So our tree in some shape or form can trace it’s origin back to the plantation. Very wierd.

Boardgame Survey!
This year I’m trying to keep in touch with my Kickstarter Calendar Backers via an email list. So last month I asked them to vote and suggest games that I should photograph for the 2018 Gaming Calendar. The photo above shows the results of the survey!
Voters got 12 votes (cause there are 12 games in a calendar) so that’s why the percents seem so wonky. It was really cool to see how things broke down and how both Scythe and Terraforming Mars were clearly the hottest games.
In “The Other” category, games got maybe one or two votes at most with the only standouts being Trickerion and Food Chain Magnate.

New Orleans French Quarter!
Last year in February, Lisa and I visited New Orleans. She had spent almost two years living in Baton Rouge and she had been wanting to show me New Orleans since it’s only a four and a half hour drive from where we live in Texas.
The photo at the top is St. Louis Cathedral, in the French Quarter. We did our best to see all around the city, but our hotel was in the French Quarter so it was easy for me to get up and take sunrise and sunset photos there.
The red building is the hotel we staid in. It was BRUTALLY hard getting pretty photos of The French Quarter because every morning the streets were littered with trash, food, and vomit. Literally every morning when I got up and slipped out to take photos there were crews not only cleaning the streets but power washing the walls of buildings!
This is Royal street. There were tons of shops and boutiques along it.
Royal street again, but a few blocks away and looking in the opposite direction.
The St. Louis Cathedral again, but this time at dusk.
One of our other favorite stops in the city was Lafayette Cemetery. Here is a post with tons and tons of photos from our visit:

Spring!
I have no idea what flower this is. Lisa probably knows. We have a big garden with a mix of wild flowers, fruit trees, vegetables, and plants specifically meant for attracting butterflies and humming birds.
The plants started blooming in early February and will continue to do so till the end of June. By June it gets too hot for most of the flowers, but they all usually rebound and we have a second blooming season in September.
Creators Cast – 100th Episode!
Crazy sauce. The Creators Cast hit episode 100 this week! Since it’s my show and I can do whatever I want I decided I wanted Eric Summer to return! So he did. We gab about board games, audiobooks, and even have some Flip The Table style fun (with of course Moderator Chris’ approval!).

Spring Flowers in Austin!
In Texas, the bluebonnet and indian paintbrushes grow EVERYWHERE… well at least everywhere between like Louisiana and the hill country.
I snagged this photo last March when in Austin for the Smarter Artist Summit. I had been driving back to my hotel, and took a semi-backroad because the highway around Austin was jammed. I came around a curve and sitting on this small hill in the middle of a residential neighborhood was this church and filed of flowers.
There was no hesitation. I stopped and spent about ten minutes framing and making sure I got the perfect photo.
