Path to Publication: Writing Course, Manchester
Hello all
I don’t usually cross-pollinate, as it were but I did want to mention that I’ll be running a course in Manchester next month. Anyone and everyone is welcome, as long as you’ve done a little bit of writing before.
Here are the details and hope to see you!
I’m running a face-to-face course in Manchester at the Friend’s Meeting House. You can see the Facebook link for more details or email me.
https://www.facebook.com/events/609702399049992/
About:
What will we study: How to take your writing further. You’ve probably done a beginners course or have been writing here and there for some time. But how do you really start getting on the path to publication? We will look at other writers’ techniques, the structure and tone of stories, images in fiction, beginnings and endings, as well as doing lots of new writing and critiquing each others’ work. All working towards fiction that is of publishable standard.
You will be taught by Dr Sarah Dobbs, author of Killing Daniel, which was recently long-listed for the Guardian’s Not the Booker.
Coming?

The Guardian’s Not the Booker Prize and Bad Language MCR
Killing Daniel has been nominated for the Guardian’s Not the Booker prize, along with another Unthank book, King of the Jungle (I loved this btw)
If you did like either of them, please vote. Not if you haven’t read it but are my friend, but you know, if you like-liked it. That’s the point, right. I don’t like fake.

Bad Language MCR
Really I'll be reading like everyone else.
What will I be reading? A healthy chunk of murder, misery and monsoons (sort of).
Hopefully the open mic after will cheer everyone up after.

Red Room – collection of stories inspired by the Brontes
I bought my first Bronte book from the Works shop in Wigan galleries (the quiet side) when I was about eleven, I think. It was a collection of novels in one. Thick grey door wodge. Jane Eyre, Villette, The Professor. I wrote down all the words I didn’t know and learned how to speak, I thought, ‘proper’.
I’ve learned that there are still Bronte books I haven’t read.
So it’s quite nice to be in this, Red Room. A collection of stories inspired by the Brontes and their work. It has a great cover and great work within (have read the proof). It’s out in November by Unthank Books, edited by AJ Ashworth. And here’s a first glimpse.
Writers: Elizabeth Baines, Bill Broady, David Constantine, Carys Davies, Sarah Dobbs, Vanessa Gebbie, Tania Hershman, Zoe King, Rowena Macdonald, Alison Moore, David Rose, Felicity Skelton and a poem by Simon Armitage.
Nice.
