My story is titled, Little Man No big Ham, about a fictitious schoolboy who helps bring joy and feed his impoverished family.
- We are just about through National Reading month, and if you want some classic freebies to read, consider visiting.

Looking for Me?

Hi Friends,

It has been a bit of a rough week for yours truly, David C. Russell. I am recovering from incidence of right lower lobe pneumonia and am regaining my strength with each passing hour or day. Literary appearances remain alive and well. I would be honored to share in your experience of National Reading Month going on now or when convenient for you. Here is the info on where to find something from my imaginative brain housed in my hard cranium (head).
- Tuesday, March 19, 2019. My story, Little Man No Big Ham, will go live in the publication:
New Author Journal Spring 2019: Mr. Mario V. Farina https://www.amazon.com/New-Author-Jou...
Or, google the journal name spring 2019 after March 19. It's an attractive volume of short stories by emerging authors. Thanks Mr. Farina..

- Homecoming: A Memoir by David C. Russell continues to be free on Smashwords through March 30 in EBook form. Use public coupon.

- Another opportunity for you to participate in National Reading Month: time involved, about ten minutes.
The subject is my story titled, Always Something. It is set in a medical hospital, no name, and is about a medical resident, and also a mom who has a young child facing terminal illness.
Here's the info and URL:

Your post is up on the website. Here's the link: https://deliatalent.wordpress.com/201...

If you do read any of the above, please do me the favor of letting me know, and sharing with a friend or acquaintance. I'll try to be easy on your budget, fair enough?

I am reading "Garden Spells" a sort of fictional romance, by Sarah Addison Allen. It does have an element of adult eroticism that is handled in good taste, but is an entertaining read overall.

Thanks for dropping by. Enjoy your fruits and vegetables, fish or lean meat, your day and current read.

Happy page turning,
David C. Russell

Conversation Starter

Hi Friends,

One of my personal hobbies is collecting words, which I have done for about 15 or so years now. Most come from various online Word Of The Day websites, or just browsing words that begin with a certain letter and contain anywhere from 5 to 12 letters. Some of these go into stories, or are used as story titles.
I read online the other day that single-use is considered by Collins as the word of the year for 2017. It refers to packaging only used once then tossed.
Words leaving the dictionary world include: brabble, which means to argue stubbornly.
Charabancs, which is a large bus used for sight-seeing tours.
Frigorific, which deals with chill or cold. Tell someone you want to not brabble with them.
Tell your Significant Other, "Honey, I feel frigorific."

My birthday is upcoming on Monday, Feb. 25, and I plan to spend number 67 in quiet fashion. I will continue reading a crime thriller by Karin Slaughter titled, Faithless.
Next, a writing acquaintance, Hallie Ephron, is on my to-read list.

Finally, I encourage you to invite a friend to celebrate National Reading Month by securing an EBook copy of my memoir for free from
https://www.smashwords.com
Title: Homecoming: A Memoir by David C. Russell, that's me if you are wondering.. Look for the free public coupon and use it to redeem your copy!
The book is free through March, inspirational, encouraging, and under 100 pages in print.
If you accept, please share your rating here on Goodreads. Fair enough?

Talk with you in a couple weeks; happy page turning.
All the Best,
David C. Russell

Enjoying Winter or summer?

Hi Friends,

My title asks, Enjoying winter or summer?
Let me get a bit more specific, or ask this another way:
Have you read a book title, seen a movie, play, or musical that fit the season and perhaps the season of your life almost perfect?

Care to share in a comment? I would invite you to do so!

My answer is yes. I am currently reading, Tapestry of Fortunes, by Elizabeth Berg. This novel is about a woman living in Minnesota. She is a published author, single, middle-aged, and sells her home to move into a co-op situation with some other women. I like this author's style of writing and revealing a story. The length is about 6.5 hours, which is my preferred length for a book or novel most times.

Incidentally, "Homecoming: A Memoir"
David C. Russell
is available in EBook form on Smashwords through March 2019 if using the coupon there. Also, if you live near a local Barnes and Noble, you can order a copy of my title and have it delivered for half the shipping cost charged by the big A, Amazon. It was a fun write, and am told a fun read!

Until next visit, just around my birthday in late February:

Post 5: Update and Invite

Hello friend,
Hey, thanks for dropping by!
Post 5 on the first of February 2019. We are just coming out of a very, very cold snap here in the midwest USA. By February 4, weather forecasts call for temperatures nearing 50 degrees F. This sure beats 0 F and -0 that we have known for about six days.

Invite
Are you a short story writer?
If so, I am hosting the monthly theme at the GoodReads Group, Writers 750 this month.
Theme: Someone has received a check for $1 million, now what?

You need to join the group before you can submit a story between 500 and 1,000 words by Feb. 25. Presently, 175 members are in this group, but short story contributions have been below ten per month, for some time.

Update
I am enjoying the lengthy biography on Russian composer Tchaikovsky by Posner. He has quite an intriguing life story.

Remember, "Homecoming: A Memoir" by
David C. Russell
is still on special at Smashwords.com. This ends March 31, 2019. Print editions are available on Amazon and other book vendors. It was fun to write and has been fun for several to read, or so I'm told.

No questions for you, and there haven't been any for me. Shyness must be gripping you but isn't necessary..

Until next time, happy page turning,
Warmly,
David C. Russell

Post Four: Call Me?

Hi Friends,

As I write this, the adult contemporary radio station, CHOK, Sarnia, Ontario CA is playing the '80s song, Call Me. I just looked at my author board, and that has been quiet. Hmmm.

Well, since no one answered the question about a general sense of dissatisfaction with their respective Government, there are a couple conclusions:
- Words cannot express what I am feeling and thinking.
- Don't trouble me with such nonsense. Okay.

Let's try a less threatening one this time around. You have until February 1, 2019 to answer. Lord willing, I will do another post that day.

Do you eat three meals a day?

My answer is: Yes, but two meals only on Saturday and Sunday.
Just for your info, I am doing sporadic abdominal crunches and lifting eight-pound weights every other day. It's something!

Now, it's your turn to answer if you care to do so.
See you next week, is it a date?
Happy page turning,

Post Three: Is It Viral?

Hi Friends,

I'll get to my topic, Is It Viral, in just a couple sentences, okay?

I am currently offering the EBook version of my title, "Homecoming: A Memoir" by David C. Russell
at a major discount through National Reading Month, March 2019.
Type title in Google and add the word smashwords.com
So, it will appear on your screen as: homecoming david c russell smashwords.com
Or, enter https://www.smashwords.com
and type title of book in their search engine. You need all the exact words!
You will be directed to add a coupon code, which is given. Please do me the grand favor of rating my book on GoodReads if you purchase and read it. Thanks!

Hearing the news today on National Public Radio, they report many citizens in Great Britain are unsettled about that nation's delay in leaving Brexit. This was a voter choice made almost two years ago. Here, over 800,000 national Government workers, 25% of the Government's employees, are in their fourth week of no work, no pay, or, a Partial Government Shutdown. Of course, anxiety and boredom are setting in for the bulk of these folks. So, there is government dissatisfaction on both sides of the Atlantic; hence, my question above. What do you think?

To end, I am reading a lengthy biography of the Russian composer, Tchaikovsky. On CD it is 27-hours long. I anticipate completing it in mid February.

Until our next visit, on the journey, thanks for dropping by!
Happy pages,
David C. Russell

Post 2: What Do You Really Like?

Hi Friend and reader,

I titled this post, What do you really like, so to share some of my answers and hopefully you may share yours as comment.
- I like reading short stories and novels and generally read one book per month. I find most entertaining!
- Learning new words from various online dictionary resources. I have been building a card file of "new words" for a few years now. Some include: canorous, billet-doux, spoony, celerity and dolorous. I try to use one or two new words in each story written.
- I like classical and acoustic music, e.g., more traditional western folk music.
These are just a few things that go in my really like column.
\
Before closing, let me wish you a Happy year ahead marked with good health and well-being. The news on the national and international front these days seems bleak. Hopefully, the news stories we make in our corner of the world will contrast what is heard and seen most days from news bureaus and such. Let's visit again soon!

December 26, 2018

Greetings and Who Are You?

Hi there!

First post here, but have been doing blogging for almost nine years:
Grafted In And On The Journey at blogspot.com
I reside in the USA, enjoy lamb-chops, and like broccoli, independent in my politic, read and write general fiction and am on a couple crit groups.
Here, we will visit, hopefully back and forth, about writing, the life journey, reading, and a few words about whatever my current project is apart from my daily nap. See, I'm middle-aged, married and semi-retired.

I participate here on occasion with the writing group, Writers 750. It's a flash fiction group where folks write a story based on a theme of the month. By the way, I'm hosting in February..

I also have a book release that occurred on December 9, 2018:
Homecoming: A Memoir by David C. Russell

Yes, there are numerous David Russells in the world, and I needed to use my middle initial to somewhat distinguish myself. There is a review or two here, but do avail yourself of the opportunity to get to know about me in this 95-page hard copy or EBook version. Let me and us know if you do so.

Okay, since this is part conversation, you now have the floor, our attention, and freshly brewed coffee is nearby. Let's get acquainted. See you in the second post probably early January 2019.

Warm Regards,
David C. Russell
