Red Flag TechnoThriller Series
The series starts with U.S. Army veteran Alex Swift meeting Gloria Wang at UCLA. Alex entered college after serving eight years in the Army. Gloria is from Taiwan and studying for a Master’s degree in computer science. They hit it off and start dating. Gloria likes bad boys and Alex qualifies.

A causal relationship turns into one of friends with benefits. After a few months Gloria moves into Alex’s apartment. A closer relationship develops. Even so, Alex is surprised when Gloria invites him to escort her to Taiwan. Her older sister is getting married and Gloria will be the Maid of Honor.
The timing of the trip couldn’t be worse. China makes good on its threat to invade Taiwan and reclaim what it considers to be a province of China. In the war between China and Taiwan, Alex and Gloria become collateral damage
The series follows the couple as the relationship deepens in the brutal war. Vivid battle scenes are balanced against the growth of the relationship. They soon learn they care deeply for each other.
Wars don’t occur all at once on one battlefield. Rather, they are a series of battles and actions, big and small. Battles are composed of many individual actions that can involve civilians as well as the military. Red Flag recognizes that fact by participants in the war telling their story in the first person. How the consequences of war deeply affect families is included in several backstories.
Alex and Gloria are one story of many.

Retribution – Edgy Terrorism Thriller Crime Series
Retribution is book 3 of the edgy Jay Gunner terrorism thriller crime series. A taste of the series is given below.
1. – Macau
The meeting of my newly formed Team Revenge wasn’t going so well. Colin Seth, my arms merchant friend, vouched for Chad and Bo. I was desperate to find Amanda, and didn’t have time for detailed investigations. After only one interview I signed the two mercenaries.
Colin told me not to worry.
He said, “The kind of men you need work under the radar. Background checks are useless. You’ll have to take my word about these fuckers. You don’t want boy scouts, you want men who can cover your ass, and if necessary kill for you. I know these guys from some tough operations, not from damn made up slick resumes.”

“Ok, Colin. I’ll take your word. They’re big and ugly enough to scare the bejesus out of anyone. If they’re as expert with firearms and explosives as you say, they’ll do just fine.”
Chad had a distinguished service record with the US Army, including three tours in Afghanistan. Bo served the Hong Kong police for 20 years, leaving the force as a disgraced detective. To fund his two daughter’s college education, he accepted payoffs from drug dealers. Other than those misdeeds, he had an outstanding record with the police force.
Even with Colin’s assurances and their credentials, I was having second thoughts about my new employees. They seemed less than enthusiastic about my plan. Maybe it was the venue. Having mugs of beer at a pub wasn’t the best way to conduct business.
Bo emptied his mug and motioned to the waitress for a refill as he said, “It’s a long shot. We don’t have much to go on. All we know is four passengers got off the Junk in Macau. One of them was a young, tall, Chinese lady flanked by two men. We don’t know for sure if the lady was Amanda.”
I said, “No, we don’t. But it’s the best lead we have. We have to run with it.”
I looked around the table at my recruits. Chang Bo and Chad Walker were used to danger, but even though slightly drunk showed concern over my mission plans. They didn’t want to waste time on questionable leads, and weren’t convinced we should start our search in Macau.
Chad said, “If your girlfriend is in Macau you should find another girlfriend. Macau is full of pretty Chinese girls. A lot of them end up in brothels.”
That pissed me off. He didn’t have to tell me something I already knew, but didn’t want to think about. Hell, I was concerned too. Macau might be a wild goose chase or leads could take us straight to the sex slave trade. But I had to do something. Amanda may still be alive and held hostage. I had to make every effort to find her.
When they signed on to Team Revenge, Bo and Chad knew the mission was dangerous. As mercenaries danger was an accepted part of their lives. They were pros and expected to engage in life threatening situations. They were men of action. They craved regular adrenaline fixes. Colin said they were warriors and could be trusted. That’s why I signed them on.
I looked at Chad and said, “What do you think?”
Chad looked at Bo, nodded his head in agreement, and then said, “Bo is right. Finding Amanda in Macau is a long shot. Running around asking questions will get us noticed. And I don’t mean by the police. There’re a lot of bad guys running lose in Macau. Gambling towns attract bad actors along with plenty of wealthy assholes.”
“I know that. In a town full of Triad members and gangs word gets around. We’ll have to watch our back.”
Bo tossed down another beer and said, “Boss, we don’t much like it, but you’re the decider. If that’s what you want, we’ll start our search in Macau. We think Amanda is still alive. We know Joy is not. Of course, you want revenge for Joy’s death. But chasing after an ISIS cell is like committing suicide. Those are badass motherfuckers. For now, let’s forget about them.”
“Bo, you’re sure Joy and I were attacked by an ISIS cell?”
“The FBI is sure. My buddy said the FBI has the incident on video. The bank’s security cameras had it all. Facial recognition software made a match and confirmed Abdul Haqq Hussein as one of the assassins. That dude is high on the most wanted list, and has a $5,000,000 bounty on his head. The FBI is working overtime trying to run him down.”
I asked, “What’s a top level bad guy like that doing in Hong Kong? Doesn’t make sense to me.”
Chad answered, “Since ISIS took over big chunks of Syria and Iraq, they’ve become more ambitious. They’re just getting started, and intend to create an Islamic State across the entire Mid-East. They also plan to strike at the US anyway they can. They must have seen the news about Brian Andrews and the stolen NSA files. Brian disappeared, right?”
I only nodded, yes.
“I suspect ISIS knew those files were worth a lot of cash to certain governments. They could have grabbed Brian. After a little persuasion he would spill the beans, including ratting on you.”
“That’s quite a story. Bo, think it’s possible?”
“Could be, boss. ISIS is the smartest, best-financed and scariest terrorist group yet. They know it takes control of strategic assets and lots of money to win wars. Just look at how they took over Iraq oil fields and the largest dam in Iraq. The bastards even stole Iraqi wheat and had the balls to sell it to the Iraqi government.”
I exclaimed. “So ISIS is more than a run of the mill terrorists, and cells are springing up everywhere?”
Bo was warming up to the ISIS discussion. “You bet they are. They’re like terror incorporated with spreadsheets and five year plans. Grabbing secret NSA files would give them the chance to profit by selling information. Scoping out US secret information would interest ISIS and terrorist groups. Think of their glee in exposing US secrets. They think of us as infidels, and wish to kill us all.”
Chad added, “Fuck ISIS. Let’s focus on locating Amanda. Taking on ISIS is a terrible idea. I signed on to follow orders, not to commit suicide. I’ll leave suicide missions to the Islamic crazies. Snooping around Macau will be risky enough.”
Bo reached out to bump Chad’s fist and then said, “Right on, Bro. Anyhow, our team can only handle one thing at a time. Let’s make it Macau.”
To celebrate a unanimous decision I ordered another round. The next day we took the Kowloon to Macau TurboJet hovercraft. At ridiculous speeds we skimmed above the waves to the Macau Maritime Ferry Terminal.
The ride was silky smooth, as blue green waters yielded to the hydrofoils. I had the sensation of flying through Hong Kong harbor. As we zoomed by ship traffic, and wove our way around anchored ships, the close up views were dramatic. For a few minutes I was just another wide-eyed tourist and forgot about the serious purpose of our trip.
35 minutes later, I tensed as we slowed down to approach the Macau terminal. The reason for our trip overwhelmed me. I was desperate to find Amanda, but terrified at what I might find. Without strong leads the odds of finding her were slim. I wondered which outcome I could better handle. Finding her in a brothel or not finding her at all.
Bo rose from his seat and then said, “Don’t look so worried, boss. If she’s here we’ll find her.”
I had reason to worry. If the Junk Captain’s suspicions were correct, she’d become a heroin addict. By now she could be a junkie servicing some gangster boss or forced to work at one of Macau’s many brothels. I feared the worse.

Hugh Howey – Amazing Amazon Publishing Success Story
I find Hugh Howey’s Amazon success story inspiring. In 2011, the listing of Wool on Amazon resulted in a deluge of favorable reviews. The Wool series led to the type of success most of us only dream about.
Was Hugh Howey a success with his first book? Not at all. He just kept on writing and honing his craft. Then there was an Amazon. The publishing platform gives writers the type of opportunity never before offered. Writers can bypass traditional publishing houses and still be highly successful. You have to keep writing and have the courage to put your stuff out there. Just ask Hugh Howey.
Hugh C. Howey Link to the web site.
“Born in 1975, I spent the first eighteen years of my life getting through the gauntlet of primary education. While there, I dabbled in soccer, chess, and tried to write my first novel (several times).
Out of school, I became fascinated with computers, repaired them for a brief stint, then moved to Charleston, SC and attended college. To save money, I purchased a small sailboat to live on, and nearly got myself killed, bringing it down from Baltimore with a friend.

After my junior year of college, possibly out of fear of the real world, I left my safe little harbor and sailed South. I hopped around the islands for a while, went through two hurricanes, and spent the last of my cruising funds re-stepping my mast. It was time to head back to the States, where I began a career as a yacht captain.
This began an exciting phase of my life, traveling all over the East coast and the Caribbean, from Barbados to Chicago. I worked on boats in New York, the Bahamas, even Canada. One of these adventures brought me together with my wife, who was able to lure me away from my vagabond ways, dropping anchor and buying a house.
Physically settled, my mind continued to roam, concocting adventures and whisking me off to fantastic places. Some of these tales seemed worth sharing, so I tapped into my love of books and decided to write them down. My first stories detail the life of a character that I’ve been mulling over for quite some time. Her name is Molly Fyde, and she draws inspiration from the awesome women in my life.
My Wool series became a sudden success in the Fall of 2011. Originally just a novelette, the demand from Amazon reviewers sent me scurrying to write more tales in this subterranean world. The resulting Omnibus has spent considerable time in the Amazon top 100, has been a #1 Bestseller in Science Fiction on Amazon, and was optioned by Ridley Scott and Steve Zaillian for a potential feature film. The story of its success has been mentioned in Entertainment Weekly, Variety, and Deadline Hollywood among many others. Random House is publishing the hardback version in the UK in January of 2013.
When I’m not writing, I like to go for hikes with my family, take a stroll on the beach, and keep up with my reading. I currently live in Jupiter, Florida with my wife Amber and our dog Bella.”

Here’s a sample from Chapter Two. Jay meets Joy and thinks she might be perfect as a trading assistant. As the story progresses, so does their relationship.
===========================================================
I was lucky to meet Joy at one of my favorite watering holes, the M Bar at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. By chance, I sat at the bar and found myself next to Joy. I noticed her perfume was intoxicating, yet subtle.
“I love your perfume. Mind telling me the name? If I can afford it, I’d like to buy some for my girlfriend.”
“No problem. It’s Clive Christian No 1. And yes, it’s expensive. Judging from your appearance you can afford it.” She smiled a coy smile, as she looked me over.
I looked spiffy in my new Armani suit and Hermes silk tie. I always dressed like a millionaire. Due to my trading expertise, I was one several times over.
At only 29, it was my good fortune to be successful. I gained the attention of many beautiful Hong Kong ladies. They liked my athletic figure, jet black hair, cobalt blue eyes, white smile, and Black American Express Card.
Amanda didn’t like my wandering ways, but was pretty cool about it. That is, until she came home a day early from one of her trips. She found me in bed with Sally Wu. I met Sally at a party, and like a dumb ass brought her to the condo. That was too much for Amanda.
“You bastard, you bring that sorry ass slut into our home? You dare fuck her in our bed? How can I trust such a dumb ass person?”
Our relationship almost didn’t survive that incident. Amanda stayed pissed for days. She threatened to walk out. I promised to change my wicked ways. After sleeping on the sofa a few nights, I realized I loved her. Well, maybe love is too strong a word, but I valued the relationship. I definitely loved the sex.
“Amanda, I’m really sorry. Give me another chance. I promise to be a loyal partner.”
Amanda yelled at me, “You sorry bastard. I don’t know why I stay with you. If you ever bring another woman home, I promise I’ll shoot you.”
I took that as forgiveness. “I promise. I’ll behave.”
“You better behave. Ok, I must be crazy, but one more chance. Don’t screw it up.”
I sometimes thought of taking on the one thing in life that scared me shitless. But for now, I dismissed marriage as a bad idea. Amanda didn’t push too hard, but I could tell that decision time was approaching. She wouldn’t wait forever. She was fearful of becoming what the Chinese call a “left over woman”.
The problem was I enjoyed conversations and sometimes more with interesting Hong Kong women. Looking and not touching was hard. It didn’t seem natural. I loved being around women. Even with promises to behave, not fooling around was difficult.
Amanda traveled half the time, leaving me time for an occasional exciting adventure. I had to be careful. Temptation was always there. Being spotted with another woman was a danger. Amanda had girlfriend lookouts everywhere. I was torn between being a faithful partner and bedding attractive women.
Right away, I was attracted to Joy. I loved her American English accent. Most educated Hong Kong ladies spoke beautiful English, but with a British accent. The Hong Kong educational system still follows the British model.
Joy definitely spoke American English, so I asked about it. “You speak great English, but with an American accent. Did you attend college in the States?”
“Yes, I went to Princeton, then to Harvard for my MBA. Along the way my British accent and choice of words became corrupted by you Americans.” She smiled as she said the word corrupted.
“So you’re from Hong Kong? What work do you do?”
“I’ve lived here all my life, except for attending university in America. I’ve just returned and looking for suitable employment.”
I perked up. I’d been looking for a trading assistant. This interesting lady might just qualify. No problem with looks, education or language. She was sophisticated and spoke great English. And that perfume. I loved the combination of looks, dress, language, educational background and sensuous subtle fragrance.
“What type of work are you looking for?”
“I’m not desperate. I want to find something that’s a good fit. I’m analytical and want challenging work that’ll put my MBA to good use. Probably something in finance.”
“I’ll give you my business card. I’m looking for a foreign exchange trading assistant. How’s that sound?”
“That sounds interesting. I know a little about trading Forex. My dad’s always talking about exchange rates. Do you pay bonuses?”
“Sure, I like to spread the wealth around. Give me a call and we’ll set up an interview. I don’t discuss business at a bar, so let’s relax. No interview today. Let me buy you a drink. Is that cognac you’re drinking?”
“It is. Hennessy XO.” Joy glanced at the business card. “I’m a little picky when it comes to cognac. Hope you don’t mind, Mister Gunner.”
“Just call me Jay. And I don’t mind. You drink my favorite cognac. And your name is?”
“It’s Joy. Joy Wong.”

Stephen King Talks About Writing Ideas
Stephen King is one of America’s most successful writers. In this video he talks about where his weird ideas come from.
Stephen King talks about Twilight, 50 Shades of Grey, Lovecraft & More. He’s a down to earth guy. Warning: He also uses a lot of coarse language. That shouldn’t be too surprising to Stephen King fans. One take away from this talk is that good stories often take time to come together. King says most of his tales go through an incubation period. He gets his strange ideas from news events. He develops story details a little at a time.
King is generous with his time. He’s often on the lecture circuit. He doesn’t put on airs. Perhaps that’s why so many people love his writing.
Terrorism Thriller Series – Vengeance Chapter 9 Anjelique
9. – Anjelique
We arrived at Sultana’s at 21:15. We followed our hostess to a large table. Amazed, but pleased, we settled into seats next to the dance floor. We couldn’t have asked for a better view of the belly dancers.

I said, “Mr. Muhtar mentioned a cousin works here. He must have reserved these seats. We’ll have to thank him.”
Bo said, “We’ve lucky. From the back of the room we wouldn’t see much. We should give Mr. Muhtar thanks and a nice tip.”
The tables were set up banquet style. Each white tablecloth-covered table was long and must seat 50 people. Touristy looking guests occupied most seats. They were busy consuming shish kebab, grilled steak, chicken sauté, and other Turkish delights. Three chairs across from us were empty.
In a few minutes, three ladies rushed in to claim the seats. They were in their early 20’s and speaking Turkish. We couldn’t understand a word, but noticed their appearance. Our interest in young Turkish women soared.
The most attractive of the ladies looked at me, smiled, and then asked in English, “Where’re you from?”
I choked on my piece of shish kebab, took a sip of water, and then said, “Chad and I are Americans. My friend Bo is from Hong Kong. He’s the Chinese guy with the funny hair. We all live in Hong Kong.”
The young lady said, “I like it.”
“What? Where we’re from?”
“No. The funny hair style. It’s cute.”
Bo smiled a huge smile and said, “It’s for good luck. My grandfather wore his the same way.”
Another lady said, “You’re telling the truth? You copied your grandfather? How nice. You should receive a reward.”
“Reward? What do you have in mind?” Bo licked his lips as he thought of the possibilities.
The first lady said to me, “After the belly dancing show, my girlfriends and I want to go to Anjelique. Perhaps you and your friends will take us.”
I said, “Anjelique? What is that?”
“It’s the hottest club in Istanbul, that’s what. You have to see it. It’s fantastic.”
“We don’t even know your names. Why should we take you to an expensive club?”
“My name is Feyza, this is Binnaz, and this is Rezzen. Now you know our names, how can you say no? Don’t you like rewards and surprises?”
Chad said, “It’s tempting. We’ll think about it. For now, let’s relax and watch the show. We came to see the belly dancers.”
Feyza said, “Take us to Anjelique and we’ll give you a private show. We all belly dance.”
Bo said, “Count me in. If you want to go to Anjelique,I’m all for it.”
Chad said, “Better slow down, Bo. Let’s watch the show. Then we’ll see.”
Chad leaned over and whispered, “Think we’re targeted? This seems too good to be true. Too easy a pickup.”
I whispered back, “Something is weird. They like Bo’s hair. Let’s watch the show and go from there.”
The band started playing. The ladies across the table kept smiling at us. It was too easy. These girls looked like models. They were lovely in every way. We can’t be this lucky.
The first of the belly dancers appeared. The band went into frenzy. The dancer responded. How could any human move like that? It was beautiful and strange, the dance woven together in a series of unnatural undulating moves. Each dancer was better than the last. After the last of five dancers performed, I looked across the table. Feyza noticed and smiled.
She said, “How did you like it?”
“Fantastic. A great show.”
“Now you have to make a choice. You can stay around for a modest amount of instruction in belly dancing, or you can take three friendly ladies to Anjelique.”
“What’s so special about Anjelique?”
Feyza gushed, “It’s the best club in Istanbul. That’s what. You’ll love it.”
We crowded into a taxi and headed for Anjelique. I sat up front with Feyza on my lap. Bo and Chad climbed into the back and put arms around a willing Binnaz and Rezzen. I hadn’t been with a woman since China. That seemed so long ago. It was like another life on another planet.
Feyza was an exotic beauty. Her skin was soft and the color of cocoa butter. Dark silky hair cascaded to her tiny waist. Green eyes sparkled like fine emeralds. Full of life and mischief, they focused on my face, making an appraisal. I felt heat, like I was approved as a newly found lover.
She was exciting. My internal alarm system went on code red. A woman like Feyza didn’t just fall into your lap. There had to be a catch.
By the time we reached Anjelique, I was a horny bastard. Feyza acted like a well-behaved affectionate lady, but adorned in a silk dress and wearing no bra, her every little move increased my sexual tension. I wondered if she was wearing panties. My alarm system was still on, but I no longer cared.
Feyza said, “Here we are. Isn’t it a beautiful setting?”
The setting was magnificent. At the top of a hill, overlooking the Bosphorus Strait, the club had a view to die for. Lights from the far shore, and from a parade of passing ships, sparkled on the dark blue water. We arrived a little before midnight to find the club jammed with young, attractive, smartly dressed, happy partying people.
The DJ was playing music that was hypnotic. I thrived on a vibrant Hong Kong club scene, but Anjelique, by any comparison, was a stand out. The interior was posh, chic, exciting, and a blend of Islamic and contemporary design. Feyza took my hand and pulled me to the bar.
“First we drink. Then we dance. Then you might get lucky. Tonight, I want to celebrate. It’s my birthday. I like you. We’ll have a good time.”

My alarm system was still on, but I no longer cared.”
