3 Parenting Lessons I Learned from Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters

“Four girls? Ha, wait until their teenagers. Poor guy.”

Strong Fathers, Strong DaughtersI hear some version of this message every single time I go out in public with my girls. Every. Single. Time.

The thing is, I don’t buy it. Call me naive, but there’s got to be another way.

My girls will be up against a lot in this world. The culture will pour fuel to the fire of insecurities. The image of what it is to be a woman on TV and magazine covers is not real.

So, I turned to a book by Dr. Meg Meeker for help. Strong Fathers, Str...

Why I Pray the Angelus

Why Pray the Angelus

My new book, Praying the Angelus: Find Joy, Peace, and Purpose in Everyday Life, is now officially on sale. Find it on Amazon or wherever books are sold.

Here’s what I find to be most interesting about Catholic devotions like the Rosary, novenas, and the Angelus: they are passed on from one person to another.

This may not be some profound revelation. Maybe it is obvious to you, but the implications are extremely important.

The way you pray today was influenced by others. Your prayer life w...

Ten Commandments Word Search and Crossword Puzzle

ten-commandments-worksheets-forkids

At the core of every Catholic religious education curriculum are the Ten Commandments. Students have to learn them and review them every year. In order to teach the commandments effectively, we first need to teach them toknow them then we need to help the students live them.

I’m a big proponent of religious education that integrates lectio divina. It helps young people understand what we believe, but more importantly, learn how to live what we believe.

The Religion Teacher’s Ten Commandment...

People Over Programs

people-over-programs-hpt

First, I set out to learn what Jesus did to evangelize. He healed; he proclaimed; and he taught. This became Part 1 and Part 2 of To Heal, Proclaim, and Teach.

Next, I set out to find the models that were working best in evangelizing ministries today. Clearly personal formation, one-on-one discipleship, small group ministries, and remarkable large group events work well today. This became Part 3 of To Heal, Proclaim, and Teach.

Finally, I went and interviewed or researched some of the most e...

A Simple Invitation (Easter Evangelist)

Easter Evangelist

About eight years ago my fiancé (now wife) and I were at a nice Italian restaurant. It was a double date with two Catholic friends we were just getting to know. We knew they were strong in faithand we wanted to get to know them more.

It took only a few minutes for them to inspire us.

The waiter came over to welcome us and take our initial order. I don’t know how they did it, but it came up that he was Catholic and he hadn’t been to church in awhile.

“Have you thought about coming back?” they...
