My Stars Are Still Shining

Warsuma shares stories of everyone she’s met—from Michael Jackson and Elizabeth Taylor to Truman Capote and Karl Lagerfeld. Each one had a unique spirit, and each had something to teach her about never giving up and never backing down. These lessons became the stars she followed to her destiny.

Review by Bookiegalke My Stars Are Still Shining

If you are like me and grew up listening to Michael Jackson’s hit songs, you will definitely find My Stars are still shining my Amina Warsuma interesting. This is a Memoir told by one of the people who were closest to the pop star. The text documents the life of Amina Warsuma, a Somali-American model, and filmmaker who was lucky enough to have known Michael Jackson as a young person when he began his music career all the way to when he met his unfortunate death. This is a story of overcoming hardship with perseverance and courage.

Michael Jackson and Amina

If you like MJ, I have written several chapters in my book about MJ and Mr. Jackson being that I grew up with him and was one of his first fans and got to dance with him. You can get my book on Kindle, and there is a free give away for your friends and family. I have a great collection of college books and some novels to go to as a reference. I like hard copies on my shelf my favorite author is Truman Capote who was a friend of mine. I write about him in my memoir also I don't wish to copy any writer but be original, authentic and unique in my writing.

My Stars Are Still Shining

I wanted my memoir it to be unique, authentic and my readers to learn from my experience. My struggle is a spiritual struggle and to be the one in control of my life which modeling didn't offer. Everyone else was calling the shots in the fashion industry. I just had to be available mentally, emotionally and physically together. The Editors said it felt like they were on a porch I was telling them the story it felt real. I didn't wish to do a biography in chronologic order. A Memoir is only chapters of significant things in a person life that they want to share. Whatever that might be a biography is everything in order, or it starts at the end of the beginning. Why is it a struggle for me because I have goals that I see clearly that other people cant see until I do it. It may take them five or six or even twenty years to see my vision. Also, it seems like everything at once is always happening in my life with money or without money. The only sane thing I can validate is my action and efforts and not be aggressive or passive but assertive. I wrote a story about terrorist in 1984 nobody wanted it they didn't see it coming. My next book is fiction I will try to keep my unique way of writing. A lot of stuff I didn't put in the memoir. I use to go to parties and tell Andy and the in-crowd stories. Andy Warhol would say Amina tell us one of your stories. I tried to write my memoir as if I am telling you a story from a section of my life and all the things that repeated I filed in separate chapters. My Memoir leaves room for discussion. The fight goes on for me because I haven't reached my Nirvana yet. I don't see myself ever retiring and sitting at the old folk's pool drinking a Pina colada with nothing to do but remember the old days.
