Population Management for Worst-Case Climate Change

Planet Earth is already straining under the 400-billion-pound weight of eight billion humans (more than all other mammals combined). In a world that may warm by 4 or 5°C, much of the land could become unlivable because of extreme heat, drought, flooding, or sea-level rise. Continue reading →

We Can’t Reverse Global Warming

To meaningfully reverse warming, we'd need to remove hundreds of gigatons (one billion tons) of CO2 from the atmosphere (Rubin et al. 2012). Current carbon capture technologies are woefully inadequate (Prieto 2021, Rosa et al. 2020, Lai et al. 2021)). They're energy intensive, expensive, and nowhere near the scale required (Le Moullec 2012). It's like trying to empty the ocean with a teaspoon. Continue reading →

Another critique of Juniper eradication on public land: “The Voluntary Grazing Permit Retirement Act could remove livestock from much of the sage grouse habitat with far better consequences for the bird than destroying tens of thousands of acres of juniper”–George … Continue reading →
