The Novel Approach: Five Stars for Spring Break at the Villa Hermes

SpringBreakCoverThumb

The Novel Approach has reviewed Spring Break at the Villa Hermes, and Karen has given it a 5-star rating. I am always delighted when reviewers call out the very things that I enjoy most about writing the books—especially when it comes to a character like Thor, who made me laugh every time I tried to figure out what was going to come out of that adorable, politically correct mouth of his.

One of the things I have loved about this series is how Xavier Mayne builds all of the characters, so whether they are the primary characters or secondary, by the end you feel as though you know them all. Story time was amazing, and at parts had me cracking up and laughing out loud.  Thor’s story about the floppy, one eyed slug, and looking another man right in the anus, had tears running down my face I laughed so hard.

Thanks, Karen, for the lovely review. You can read the entire review here.

The Novel Approach reviews A Wedding to Die For: “Once again, Xavier Mayne has won me over and entertained me.”

Jackie at The Novel Approach Reviews made my Sunday morning with her write-up of A Wedding to Die For.

With a plot taken directly from headlines around the country, Xavier Mayne has brought to light some of the issues marriage equality has brought to our attention.

All of my favorite characters made an appearance in this book, and some great new ones also. The two troopers, of course, get the bad guys, and all while planning their own wedding and meeting every crazy wedding planner in the city.

Thanks, Jackie, for the wonderful and perceptive review.

The Kimi-chan Experience: A Wedding to Die For is “funny, tender, sweet and entertaining”

The delightful Morgan at the Kimi-chan Experience has given A Wedding to Die For 4.5 hearts.

There is a bit more to the “mystery” in this story and some really shocking developments occur that will keep you on the edge of your seat and near your Kleenex box!

…In addition to the on-going romance between Brandt and Donelly (which continues to be ooey gooey sweet and super hot sexy!) there is the relationship between Greg and Peter the wedding couple and the budding romance between Roman and Justin (childhood beaus split apart for years due to bigotry and fear.)…

I really love this series and the couples we meet each time and continue to follow and can’t wait for more.

Literary Nymphs Reviews: A Wedding to Die For is “a crazy read that will have you laughing one moment and in shock the next”

Literary Nymphs Reviews gives A Wedding to Die For 4.5 nymphs. I’m so glad that reviewers like Critter Nymph have taken the time to read the previous books in the series. I love these characters–they’re like family to me at this point–so I’m particularly happy that my new bestie Critter sees it the same way:

A Wedding to Die For is a great addition for this series.  Like the previous books, this one will have you turning the pages anxious to see what will happen next.  It will also leave you dying to see what the author has planned next for our main characters and hoping the next book will be out soon.

If you have not tried anything by this author, the Brandt and Donnelly Capers series is a great place to start.

Thanks, Critter, for the thoughtful review!

5 hearts from MM Good Book Reviews for A Wedding to Die For

Lisa, writing at MM Good Book Reviews, gives A Wedding to Die For 5 hearts. I really appreciate how she steps outside the genres she normally reads to give our troopers a chance to capture her imagination!

I can guarantee that if you read this story you will be captivated. I know that once I start reading I can’t stop until I get to the end. Xavier’s books are probably the only mystery and suspense stories that I read, and they are the reason I might check out others. Wonderful story lines and plots, gorgeous characters, lots of heart and soul added in and some very hot sex.

Thanks for the great review, Lisa!

Release day review of A Wedding to Die For at LoveBytes: 4 Stars

Rhonda at Love Bytes is first out of the gate with a review of A Wedding to Die For, and it’s a great one! Here’s a snippet:

This book runs you through a gamut of emotions. I was angry, laughing, shocked and astonished at the ins and outs of the plot, by a major character loss and by what happened at the hospital and how the authorities handled the situation. I can say I was so angry I wanted to write a letter to my senator and complain about how same sex couples are treated when they are faced with a loved one being injured and not being allowed to be with them to comfort them. This full length novel is going in my permanent library and I will be reading it again.

Thanks, Rhonda!

GayListBookReviews puts Wrestling Demons on the A List

WrestlingDemons_FBThumb

Nina at GayListBookReviews gives Wrestling Demons a wonderful write-up. I always love seeing what people have to say about the Brandt & Donnelly Capers, mainly because this is the first time I’ve written a series and I hope I’m doing it right! Imagine how much Nina’s closing words meant to me:

I can only hope that Brandt and Donnelly will continue to give us awesome cases and loving romance for many books to come. I would love to be able to see more of Jonah and Casey as well, and of course Bryce and Nestor. I so enjoy this world and all of the people that I have met here. It is a sweet, charming, romantic, loving, emotional, insightful and funny time every time I come here. I think it is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to visit.

The entire review is available here–it’s a great read.

Nina, your review has made me a very happy man! Thank you so much.

Alex Akira finds Wrestling Demons “Sparkling, Spunky & Sweet!”

WrestlingDemons_FBThumb

Alex Akira has reviewed Wrestling Demons for Rainbow Book Reviews, and I love the way this review gets underway:

Xavier Mayne’s unusual but captivating style of camp, raunch, and sweetness beautifully captures this “outed before ready” tale of two best friends who are, as the title suggests—wrestling demons.

I don’t think I’ve come across a phrase in a review that I’ve loved more than “camp, raunch, and sweetness.” I think I’ll have that cross-stitched and hung above my desk! Alex’s review is lovely throughout, of course, and it ends just as beautifully, with

something else that Xavier Mayne’s writing imparts—at the end of a marvelous, stuff-of-dreams journey filled with tenderness, comedy, sweetness, and heat—I was left with ‘hope.’

Thank you, Alex, for the wonderful review.

Smitten with Reading: Wrestling Demons “had tears rolling down my face”

WrestlingDemons_FBThumb

Christi Snow, writing at Smitten with Reading, has reviewed Wrestling Demons and given it a B (not sure how Casey and Jonah would feel about getting a B in sexytimes, but these things are subjective…). Christi really nails one of the things that I really tried to accomplish in the book, and I’m delighted that she put it into such sharp focus in her review:

This was a book much like the first in the series…it’s a gay-for-you story. There were some beautifully written scenes about sexuality and how everyone is just as they are…there’s no deciding to feel one way or other about someone. It just is. Literally, there is a scene with a bookstore clerk and what he says about being gay, or straight, or anything in between had tears rolling down my face…just beautifully spoken and such an incredible “moral to the story” about sexuality in this book.

Thanks, Christi, for your thoughtful and beautifully written review.
