My Review Of Liberty Frye And The Sails Of Fate
BeachBoundbooks is pleased to be coordinating a Review Tour for the middle grade fantasy Liberty Frye and the Sails of Fate by J.L. McCreedy from April 20 - May 12, 2016.

About the Book

Title: Liberty Frye and the Sails of Fate (Book 2)
Author: J.L. McCreedy
Genre: Middle Grade Fantasy
Number of Pages: 260
Synopsis: When Liberty Frye wakes up on her eleventh birthday, nothing about it feels particularly celebratory. As if being a witch in training isn’t confusing enough, her mother’s mysterious illness has grown worse overnight and her best-friend-turned-foster-sister Ginny is driving her crazy. Then there’s the matter of Uncle Frank’s new invention that he has brought to her surprise party. When Libby’s freaky powers accidentally activate it, she and her unsuspecting birthday party guests are transported into an ocean of darkness. Literally. Soon, they’re running – or rather, sailing – for their lives, chasing after clues while dodging angry islanders and makeshift spells gone awry.
To save herself and everyone she cares about, Libby knows she must confront the dark forces bent on determining their fate. But what she doesn’t know is ... how?
Amazon ~ Barnes and Noble

The average ten-year-old girl seldom travels far from home. She doesn’t worry about being kidnapped by witches or imprisoned in medieval castles where children are ensnared to meet their unspeakable demise. She rarely gives thought to curses, potions and magic. She certainly isn’t concerned about risking life and limb to decipher ancient rites and lost treasures....
But Liberty Frye is about to discover that she is not just your average girl.
When a cryptic note from long-lost relatives arrives, the news it brings flips Libby’s small-town existence upside down. Soon, she finds herself lured to a foreign land where retired witches, talking bats and geriatric World War II pilots await. It’s up to Libby to unravel the sinister plot that brought her there in the first place, but in so doing, she’ll uncover a shocking secret that will change her life forever ... if she survives the challenge.
**Liberty Frye and the Witches of Hessen is free through Kindle Unlimited.
My Review: Liberty is a witch. Throwing your head out of your head isn't easy as it might sound. She is trying to read thoughts. She turned eleven and her magic is getting stronger. Is her magic strong enough to get her back home? Uncle Frank's new invention transported them to a strange place with dark forces and angry islanders. Fun characters. Great Adventure. I really enjoyed reading in this book. I received this book free for an honest review.

My Review Of Daughter Of The Sun by Zoe Kalo

Title: Daughter of the Sun (Cult of the Cat series, Book 1)Author: Zoe KaloGenre: YA mythological fantasyWord count: 93,000 wordsRelease date: May 1, 2016
Cult of the Cat series blurbAccording to ancient Egyptian prophecy, three feline goddesses—Bastet, Sekhmet, and Mafdet—would one day be reborn as triplets during a solar eclipse. But someone—or something—separated them at birth. Because if ever they were reunited, they would unleash a blistering power that could destroy the world. In an adventure where the past confronts the present, and blood, betrayal and secrets abound, the triplets face each other for the first time. And discover they’re the only force able to stop the evil god Apophis from enslaving humanity.
Daughter of the Sun, Book 1 - blurbSixteen-year-old Trinity was born during a solar eclipse and left at the doorsteps of a convent along with a torn piece of papyrus covered with ancient symbols. Raised by nuns in the English countryside, she leads a quiet life until she’s whisked away to the Island of Cats and a grandmother she never knew. But before they can get to know each other, her grandmother dies. All that Trinity has left is a mysterious eye-shaped ring. And a thousand grieving cats. As Trinity tries to solve the enigma of the torn papyrus, she discovers a world of bloody sacrifices and evil curses, and a prophecy that points to her and her new feline abilities. Unwilling to believe that any of the Egyptian gods could still be alive, Trinity turns to eighteen-year-old Seth and is instantly pulled into a vortex of sensations that forces her to confront her true self—and a horrifying destiny.
My review: Great, fun characters. Trinity is an orphan and lives in a convent util her grandmother comes to get her. She moves to an island full of cats. Strange things start to happen as she learns more about her family history. Trinity is developing cat-like qualities. Mystery. Adventure. I found it hard to put the book down. I look forward to reading book 2. I received this book free for an honest review.
About the AuthorA certified bookworm, Zoe Kalo has always been obsessed with books and reading. Reading led to writing—compulsively. No surprise that at 16, she wrote her first novel, which her classmates read and passed around secretly. The pleasure of writing and sharing her fantasy worlds has stayed with her, so now she wants to pass her stories to you with no secrecy—but with lots of mystery… A daughter of adventurous expats, she’s had the good fortune of living on 3 continents, learning 4 languages, and experiencing a multicultural life. Currently, she’s working on a Master’s degree in Comparative Literature, which she balances between writing, taking care of her clowder of cats, and searching for the perfect bottle of pinot noir.

He started his career as an illustrator in 1977 in London. In 1981 he returned to live in France with his American wife and their two children. Since then he has worked for publishers in both Europe and North America. To date he has illustrated over 80 books and more than 100 covers, in a wide range of subjects extending from detailed non-fiction to juvenile and adult fiction in the realms of fantasy, mythology, science fiction and fairy tales.Website

My Review Of The Vaga by S. A. Carter

The last time they met was in a fight for survival,
but four years later Julian has returned, and his
presence can only mean one thing…
the enemy is near.
Elena discovers that her world is again being
threatened but this time her enemy has a
new name.
The Vaga—an ancient force ruled by an Immortal
known only as Erebus. For eons he has lived in darkness
and shadow and will stop at nothing to prevent the
New Coming.
My Review: I loved this book. I love to read stories where I connect with the characters and this story does that. I didn't want the story to end. I didn't want to leave my friends. Good thing there is a book 3. Erebus is going to bring about the apocalypse. He's going to kill us all. How does Elena fight someone or something like that? How can she keep her friends safe? Magical mystery. Romance. Suspense. I look forward to reading book 3. I received this book free for an honest review.

My Review Of A Buss From Lafayette
BeachBoundbooks is pleased to be coordinating a Blog Tour for the middle grade/young adult novel A Buss From Lafayette by Dorothea Jensen from April 11 - May 2, 2016.

My Review: This book takes the reader back in time to the year 1825. Clara is fourteen and her stepmother is trying to teach her how to be a lady. Her stepmother was looking more like a fairy godmother and less like a wicked stepmother. Clara wanted to learn as much as she could about this Frenchman who had done so much for her country. Entertaining and educational read. I received this book free for an honest review.
About the Book

Title: A Buss From Lafayette
Author: Dorothea Jensen
Genre: Middle Grade/Young Adult Historical Fiction
Recommended Ages: 10-17
Number of Pages: 266
Publisher: BQB Publishing
Publication Date: April 22, 2016
Synopsis: Fourteen-year-old Clara Hargraves lives on a farm in Hopkinton, a small New Hampshire town, during the early 19th century. She has a couple of big problems. First of all, she has a stepmother, Priscilla, who used to be her spinster schoolteacher aunt. Clara resents that her late mother’s older sister has not only married her father but is about to have a baby. To make matters worse, “Prissy Priscilla”keeps trying to make the rambunctious, clever, and witty Clara act like a proper young lady. Secondly, Clara has red hair, making her a target for teasing by a handsome older boy, Dickon Weeks, and by her pretty seventeen-year-old Dread Cousin Hetty. Clara, however, has a secret plan she hopes will change this. During the last week of June, 1825, Clara’s town is abuzz because the famous General Lafayette is about to visit their state during his farewell tour of America. In those eventful seven days, Clara learns a lot about her family, Hetty, Dickon, herself, and about Lafayette. She comes to understand the huge and vital role the young French aristocrat played in America’s Revolutionary War and to see that her problems might not be quite so terrible after all.
Amazon ~ Barnes and Noble ~ Kobo About the Author: Dorothea Jensen

Dorothea Jensen, born in Boston, Massachusetts, grew up in Chillicothe, Illinois. She majored in English literature at Carleton College. After teaching high-school English and serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Brazil, she earned a master s degree in education at the University of New Mexico. In 1989, Harcourt Brace Jovanovich published Dorothea s novel for young readers about the American Revolution, The Riddle of Penncroft Farm. In addition to other honors, it was named an International Reading Association Teacher s Choices Selection and is read in classrooms throughout the U.S. A Buss from Lafayette is set in the small New Hampshire town where Dorothea lives. Two things inspired her to write this story. First, was learning that Lafayette passed right by her house during his 1824-5 Triumphal Tour. Another was meeting a woman whose ancestor received a kiss from Lafayette. That buss, passed down through generations, eventually came to Dorothea. This sparked her interest in Lafayette s contributions to our struggle for independence. Dorothea also enjoys writing rhyming verse. She has written a series of award-winning illustrated modern Christmas stories in verse featuring Santa's Izzy Elves.
