For P.J. Stone, being a “Seer” who has never seen anything is less than fun. And P.J. isn’t known for her patience.
To make matters worse, she must choose a suitable mate to continue the Seer bloodline. Duty always comes before her heart…at least that’s what her parents taught her. When she finds herself wanting someone who is considered off-limits, P.J. is forced to question everything she believes.
As if navigating her love life isn’t complicated enough, P.J. finally receives a vision—of a threat to her world that only she can perceive. But no one will believe a fledgling Seer’s warnings. With nowhere else to turn, she may decide to trust a stranger with her life, her world, and maybe even her heart.
~Broken Gates (Book 2)~
P.J. Stone is a Seer who saw too little, too late.
In the past, her biggest worries were boys and school—but war has a way of changing things. Now, the alien Riders are trying to overrun the world. As the last of their kind, P.J. and her friends must find a way to save humanity before there’s nothing left to save.
After choosing a mate, P.J. hoped she'd have time to enjoy her love life. But with everything changing so quickly and major secrets revealed, who knows what the future will bring?
~Open Gates (Book 3)~
Bryn is gone. Jenna isn’t herself. And the world has been taken over by the alien Riders. The only constant in P.J.’s life is Khol. But even he might not be able to help her pick up the shattered pieces of her existence.
P.J. finally gets the answers to all her questions, but will she be able to handle the truth? And will she be strong enough to face her own destiny when the time comes?

I have given it as several gifts to my friends with children. It is very well written and the illustrations are fun and colorful. I would highly recommend this book to everyone!" ~ 5 Star Review, Dawn N., AmazonGood-bye Baby Max: "This colorful, hardcover children’s title Good-bye, Baby Max (Bridgeway Books, Texas, 2007) by Diane Cantrell & Heather Castles is special in its purpose of teaching an invaluable lesson: that of properly saying the final farewell to a loved one who is no more ... Diane’s time at Fort Sam Houston I.S.D. provided inspiration for Good-bye, Baby Max. The book, which is based on a true story, describes how Ms. B helps her kindergarten class cope with the loss of a classroom pet. At the time Diane wrote the book she was working with many children who were experiencing a great deal of loss in their lives. Her hope in writing
Good-bye, Baby Max

Riley’s Lost Tooth
, was written for her granddaughter, Riley as a Valentine’s Day present. Mr. Lee, and Sunday are main characters in the book as is Precious, who died before the book was written. When Diane is not involved in writing or listening to people’s stories, she enjoys being with her husband, Rich, and their two dogs, Sunday and Mr. Lee. Diane and Rich live in San Antonio, Texas.

My Review Of Living Separate Lives By Paulette Harper

Blurb:
Four Friends, One Secret and The Weekend That Changed Their Destiny
Candace Walker, Kaylan Smith, Jordan Tate, and Tiffany Thomas have their share of sorrows, but neither of them realizes how deep the sorrow goes. What happens when they agree to meet for a weekend of relaxation in beautiful Napa County? Which one will leave the same or worse?
For Candace Walker, life has left her battered and bruised. Kaylan Smith has struggled with prejudice from her in-laws. After fifteen years of marriage, bitterness is trying to raise its ugly head for Jordan Tate, whose husband wants to call it quits. And for Tiffany Thomas, dealing with rejection has never been one of her greatest feats.
Although they have been friends for years, they thought they knew each other well. But will a secret destroy their relationship and bring the sisterhood to a complete halt? Will they be able to forgive and allow God to mend that which might be torn?

Excerpt:
“Who cares anyway if I die? I hate my life; I curse the day I was born,” said Candace as she rolled out of her twin bed to face yet another day of sheer disappointments. Her feet landed on the beige, shaggy, dirty carpet that had seen better days. As she sat on the edge of her bed, she looked around the small apartment as though she was expecting to see something different, but nothing had changed.
“Lord, can I get a break? Can something good happen in my life?” she cried as her head collapsed in her hands. She knew within herself that today would be like all the rest: gloomy, sad, and most of all, lonely. After all she had experienced in life, how could she think today would be any different?
Candace lived in a small studio apartment off of School Street in the city of Pittsburg, California, a city surrounded by the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area. Her apartment had enough room for only one dresser and a nightstand, which she got at the neighborhood Goodwill store.
The walls of her apartment were dirty from years of cigarette smoke that didn’t escape out of the window. Her kitchen table was made of plywood, which she covered with a red tablecloth. The table was encompassed by two chairs, one for her and the other one she had hoped would be occupied by someone who genuinely wanted to be with her. The blue and cream décor in her kitchen came from visiting the neighborhood garage sales. Her neighbors knew her so well because of the frequent visits she made to their sales. Although Candace always had a roof over her head, she did not like the environment in which she lived. After looking intently at her dwelling place, she lay back on her bed and stared at the ceiling. Her thoughts shifted from her disappointing apartment to her anger about the issues she had to deal with, problems that had been with her for years, issues with her family.
Since high school, life was hard for Candace. Almost every decision she made never retuned a good dividend. The men in her life came and went, except for Derrick. He stayed the longest, but his bout with kidney failure ended whatever dreams she had of getting out of what she called the “ghetto.” Derrick was her sure ticket to a better life, she’d hoped. The only consolation to his memory was the pictures on the stained walls and a locket she wore around her neck.
Candace grew up with both parents and two siblings. Her sister, Monique, was three years younger than her; her brother, Zach, was two years younger. Candace always felt that she got the worse end of the stick when it came to Monique. Monique was light-skinned with long, black, wavy hair, which belonged to her, by the way. Candace’s skin tone was a few shades darker than Monique’s. She was short in stature, five feet, three inches tall, to be exact. She wore her hair down and straight, although it mostly contained black hair extensions, which she bought from the neighborhood beauty supply store.
Monique was the image of her mother, minus a few inches of hair. She stood five feet, eleven inches with a small frame; she could have been chosen as America’s Next Top Model. But Monique decided to study law, passing the bar on her first attempt; she then started her own practice and moved it to Los Angeles. Monique and her parents could not figure out why Candace didn’t make more of herself. To them, Candace was merely existing and taking up space. They wrote Candace off years ago.

My review. This is a Christian novel which didn't come across too preachy. Good characters were battered by problems in life, and had to learn to deal with those problems. But they learned they didn't have to do it alone.

My Review Of Dragon Defender by J. A. Balckburn

* Finalist in the Pacific Northwest Writers Association 2013 Literary Contest *
My review. I give this book a five star review. I loved it. Peter is swept into a world of dragons. On his adventure he meets some friends, watches a dragon egg hatch, and faces danger with bad guys. Great characters and vivid descriptions makes this story come to life. I look forward to more adventure with Peter and his friends.
More Buzz About the Book"We read an advance copy of this book on kindle earlier this year and our 5th grade son read it twice and is anxiously awaiting the next book in the series. Great adventure, really kept our interest reading it together at night. This was one of the kids books I most enjoyed reading myself as well. The characters and the plot are well developed, and appealing to a wide range of kids (both genders). The writing is sophisticated but easy to understand, not 'dumbed down' like many kids books. The subject of dragons was so well crafted that it's easy believe that dragons just might exist, after all." ~ 5 Star Review, Leigh A., Amazon"Reminiscent of the Fablehaven series (with just the right touch of Harry P.) this middle grade book is both an adventure and a pleasure...Fast-paced and full of wonder, this book takes middle grade readers on a vivid journey from the southwestern U.S. to Mexico; where jungles, ancient ruins and local folklore add to the enchantment that Peter finds when he discovers that dragons are in fact, real. As a former elementary school teacher, my strong feeling is that kids will eat this book whole, and then turn to searching for dragon eggs in their own backyards!" ~ 5 Star Review, Grace W., Amazon"Dragon Defender was an absorbing action packed read! The author pulls you in from the first page and I'm not sorry to say I read it all in the first day. I'm 33 but still! This is a fun book for a chapter a night with your 5 year old (my son is loving it so far) or for yourself. The characters are well developed so you feel like you're really there, and the dragon is so believable. I'd venture so far as to say I had to remind myself that dragons don't really exist.... or do they?" ~ 5 Star Review, MGC, Amazon

My Review of Zoe & Zak And The Yogi's Curse

About the BookTitle: Zoe & Zak and the Yogi's Curse (Zoe & Zak Series, Book #2)Author: Lars GuignardPublishers: Fantastic PressPublication Date: September 9, 2013Pages: 340Recommended Age: 8+Summary Zoe and Zak are back in India. Again. And this time they're attending Moonstock Himalayan Boarding School, which might seem fun except for the fact that the school itself is a little strange. Students ride elephants instead of school buses, snarling monkeys work as security guards, and angry parrots monitor the halls. And even when they manage to get used to the wildlife, the food is absolutely terrible. But living with a bunch of other kids their age can be a lot of fun, too, or at least it seems that way until Zoe's roommate goes missing. Following the directions written on a steamy bathroom mirror, Zoe and Zak fly through the clouds on their magic carpet to learn that the two of them have been chosen yet again. This time they've been asked to lift the Yogi's Curse. It's not going to be easy. Zoe and Zak don't even know what the Yogi's Curse is let alone how to lift it, but like it or not, they soon discover that a whole lot of people are depending on them. Now, if they're going to save the day, Zoe and Zak are going to have to fool the monkey guards, avoid the nasty parrots, and maybe even develop a supernatural ability or two. Because lurking beneath Moonstock is a powerful new enemy. And if Zoe and Zak can't stop him, nobody can.
My review: I give this book a five star review. I loved it. This book may be a children's book, but as an adult I loved it. Zoe and Zak are such great characters. They go on another great adventure. I can't wait to read book three. Thanks, Lars for a good read.

The Buzz"I have a 10 year old son who is an avid reader!! He loves books, (but he's picky too) he loved Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. He was so excited to read the 2nd book in this series! When I presented him the first book he was not sure he would like it but changed his mind quickly, then when I heard about the 2nd book being released he almost jumped out of his chair! (no exaggeration) He is anxiously awaiting the 3rd book! I would say that any child who enjoys fantasy/adventure books should read this series! It is a well written page turner! It's a fun story that adults can even enjoy the storyline without getting bored! According to my son, 'every kid should read this series'. " ~ 5-Star review from SavyGreenSaver, Amazon "I loved this book, even as an adult reading it. I was completely sucked into the plot and was constantly finding myself staying up "just a little longer" to read one more chapter. Different twists and turns in the book have you constantly guessing who is behind what and who Zak and Zoe can trust. I could definitely see myself being involved in this series as a middle schooler considering how much I enjoyed it even now. Another thing I liked about it is if you missed the first book, you could still follow along with this one and not be lost." ~ 5-Star review from Staci, Amazon"Lars Guignard has done a fabulous job with this series. I loved the `Ghost Leopard' & love this one even more. For late-elementary to middle school age readers, you can't beat this series. It's fun and fast-paced. Even my picky fifth grader enjoyed every page. There are bits of magic thrown in keep the action exciting. Mr. Guignard has a brilliant imagination & readers are blessed that he's chosen to use it for YA fiction. If you've yet to read the first installment in this series, do yourself a favor and read these books back to back. Don't limit it just to kids! Adults will have a blast reading these too!" ~ 5-Star review from Liz Terek, Amazon

My Review of The Torturer's Daughter

To stop Heather from getting herself killed trying to prove her parents' innocence, Becca hunts for proof of their guilt. She doesn't expect to find evidence that leaves her questioning everything she thought she knew about the dissidents... and about her mother.
When she risks her life to save a dissident, she learns her mother isn't the only one with secrets - and the plot she uncovers will threaten the lives of the people she loves most. For Becca, it's no longer just a choice between risking execution and ignoring the regime's crimes; she has to decide whose life to save and whose to sacrifice.
It's easy to be a hero when you can save the world, but what about when all you can do is choose how you live in it? THE TORTURER'S DAUGHTER is a story about ordinary life amidst the realities of living under an oppressive regime... and the extraordinary courage it takes to do what's right in a world gone wrong.

Excerpt:
Becca’s steps slowed as she approached Processing 117. The floodlights of the parking lot shone down on her, exposing her. Past the lot, the darkness threatened to close in. There was no other source of light nearby except for the dim glow of the streetlamps, nothing but trees for at least a mile in every direction. The concrete structure loomed taller than its five stories—maybe because of the invisible presence of the underground levels, or maybe because in a moment Becca was going to have to walk inside.Heather can’t have been arrested. If she were a prisoner, they wouldn’t have let her call. But when Becca remembered the panic in Heather’s voice, the thought wasn’t all that reassuring anymore.Becca took the last few steps across the not-quite-empty parking lot. The windows of the upper floors glowed in a patchwork of lights, showing who was working another late night and who was at home sleeping… or down on the underground levels. Becca knew that in one of those dark offices, a phone had been ringing off the hook for the past half-hour, its owner oblivious to Becca’s pleas for her to answer, to find Heather for her, to fix this.Becca reached the double doors of the entrance—and froze. Her heart thudded against her ribcage.Heather is in there, she reminded herself. Heather needs me.She pulled the doors open and stepped inside. The doors slammed shut behind her, the noise echoing off the stark white walls. Security cameras stared down at her from the ceiling. The guards, one to either side of the metal detector, pinned her to the floor with their eyes, but said nothing.Opposite the metal detector from Becca, the room was bare except for a huge metal desk with corners that looked sharp enough to cut. Behind the desk, a dark-haired woman with a headset clipped to her ear stopped mid-yawn and jerked up to face her.Becca held her breath and stepped through the metal detector. Its light flashed green, and one of the guards waved her forward. She let her breath out and stepped up to the desk. She eyed the woman’s crisp gray suit, and the desk that gleamed like it had never seen a speck of dust in its life. Then she looked down at her own clothes, the jeans and wrinkled t-shirt she had grabbed from her dresser after hanging up with Heather. She crossed her arms around her stomach. The receptionist’s bleary surprise had vanished, replaced by a stone mask. “Can I help you?”“I’m looking for…” Becca bit back the name on her lips. No. If she were in her office, she would have answered the phone. Anyway, Becca could imagine her reaction at finding out about this midnight walk to 117. Becca was on her own.“…Heather Thomas,” she finished. “She called me half an hour ago and told me she was here.”The receptionist’s expression didn’t tell Becca anything.“She’s here… somewhere… she called me…” Becca’s voice trailed off. I’m not doing anything wrong, she told herself. I’m not a dissident. Heather’s not a dissident.Which led Becca back to the question that had been circling through her mind since she had gotten Heather’s call. What was Heather doing here? The receptionist turned away and tapped something out on her keyboard. It only took her a few seconds to find what she was looking for. She typed in something else and touched her earpiece. “We have a detainee in temporary holding,” she said to someone Becca couldn’t see. “Last name Thomas. Her file says she’s waiting for a relative to collect her. Right, that’s the one. Someone forgot to collect her phone, and she called a friend.” A pause. “No, that won’t be necessary. Just confiscate the phone.”She turned back to Becca. “Heather Thomas is waiting for her guardian to arrive. Are you Lydia Thomas?” She gave Becca a skeptical once-over.Becca considered saying yes, but even if the receptionist weren’t going to ask for proof, there was no way she could pass as Heather’s… aunt, she remembered after a moment. Aunt Lydia, the one who always looked at Becca and Heather like being in high school was catching. The receptionist took her silence as an answer. “I’m going to have to ask you to leave.”Becca wanted nothing more than to do just that. But she couldn’t leave and let this place swallow Heather. “If she’s waiting for her aunt to get here, I can wait with her until she shows up.”“I’m sorry,” said the receptionist, already turning back to her computer. “The policy is clear. The detainee will remain in temporary holding—alone—until her guardian arrives.”Becca was losing ground. And somewhere in this building, Heather was waiting for her. “I’m not trying to take her home or anything. I only want to…” To make sure she wasn’t locked away underground. To make sure they hadn’t gotten her mixed up with somebody else, some dissident slated for execution. “…to let her know I’m here. I promised her I’d—”“Your refusal to leave the building when instructed will be recorded.” The receptionist placed her hands on her keyboard. “May I have your name?”“At least tell me what happened. Why is she here? Is she all right?”“Your name, please,” the receptionist repeated. If she stayed much longer, the receptionist would order the guards to drag her out—or worse, in. She could end up in one of those underground cells… She shivered. They couldn’t do that to her just for asking about Heather, right?“Your name,” the receptionist repeated again, with a glance toward the guards.Becca slumped. “Rebecca Dalcourt.”The receptionist blinked.“Well,” she said, her voice suddenly warmer, “I suppose we can make an exception.” My review: I give this book a five star review. But you know what's right. And you have to remind yourself of that. Becca's mother told her. Did Becca really know what was right? She had some hard choices to make. And it wasn't always easy for her to do the right thing. Enjoyable, intense read.
About the Author:
Zoe Cannon writes about the things that fascinate her: outsiders, societies no sane person would want to live in, questions with no easy answers, and the inner workings of the mind. If she couldn't be a writer, she would probably be a psychologist, a penniless philosopher, or a hermit in a cave somewhere. While she'll read anything that isn't nailed down, she considers herself a YA reader and writer at heart. She lives in New Hampshire with her husband and a giant teddy bear of a dog, and spends entirely too much time on the internet.

My Review of Deviltry Afoot by Carol Pritt

Blurb: Seeking justice for her daughters murder Tina must seek answers in the supernatural realm. Terror is spreading over Pendale. Love is pitted against a dreadful force.
My review. Carol creates a balance between the paranormal world and the normal world. The bond between a mother and her child can reach even beyond the veil.
Excerpt:
Deep into an uneasy dream Tina’s face was twisted in consternation.
Dan hadn’t stayed over this evening. She’d told him she needed time to gather strength and come to grips with what lay ahead.
He’d looked hurt. She knew he could not understand her need to be alone at such a time.
He offered to sit up with her all night.
She told him she was wrung out; she would be able to sleep a bit.
She longed to fall into unconsciousness and to block all thought.
Her bedroom felt airless.
The little clock on her nightstand seemed to have a very loud tick tonight. The dials revealed it to be 1:00 pm.
Still asleep Tina shifted her weight to lie on her back.
Her heavy cotton nightgown became bunched up under the small of her back.
Suddenly she brought up her hands folding them over her chest in the position that the dead are laid out.
Beads of sweat broke out on her face, although the temperature in her room was a cool sixty-four degrees.
She was carrying groceries to her car in a dark parking lot.
Behind her there was a small convenience store. It was lit up. The buildings light stopped at the front of the building.
Tina tossed her bag of groceries into the passenger side of the seat. Just as she lifted her leg to get in behind the wheel she thought of her mother. She’d yell up a storm if she could see her now. As a teen Tina was lectured countless times about getting into a car alone. First check out the back seat to make sure no one was lurking there, she could still her mom stress.
Tina sat her leg back down on the pavement. She opened the back door. All clear.
She slid into the front seat closing her door and rolling down her window most of the way.
Glancing out her open window she began to shake all over.
Two hands with long tapered fingers suddenly grasp the window!
As if in slow motion a hooded figure raised itself!
Her door was flung open wide.
It pushed her backward sending her sprawling across the seat.
She was immobile from fear.
The thing lowered itself to her feet.
It covered her with its form inch by inch.
Its dark cloak was spread wide to enfold her completely.
Her heart thumped so hard she felt ready to pass out praying she would.
It was up to her head now.
Tina was so cold it was as if she were entombed within a block of ice
The smell of decay surrounding her was so rank she couldn’t catch a good breath.
The hood slipped back a bit. She couldn’t decipher its features clearly. She could only make out black pinpoint eyes.
Drool oozed from its mouth. A great gob of spittle plunked down on her forehead.
She let out a scream.
She thought she’d cried out, and awoken.
It was actually only phase two.
Still dreaming she thanked the Lord that it was only a nightmare.
Lights flickered from the traffic through her drapes.
Something in the room didn’t feel right.
The sheet was shifting downward of its own accord.
Two hands grasp the foot of the bed as a cloaked figure crawled up and over her!
She surrendered herself up to it.
She was entirely passive until sirens from a passing rescue unit brought her to an actual waking state ending her ordeal.
Rest would elude her the remainder of the night. She sighed and got up from the bed.
First light would signal the start of her greatest trial.
She must commend her only offspring to eternal rest.

My Review Of Be Happy By Aisa Ross

Be Happy, the first of the "BE" series, is a book written in a straight-talk fashion, quickly delving into the heart of the matter--How to live our days better and happier, with purpose and direction. Also, this short book contains massive information on the psychology behind people's self-sabotaging behaviors and negative thought patterns.
Blurb:
If you are like me, at one point in your life, you have asked yourself questions like these:
1. What's wrong with me?
2. Why can't I just forget about him/her?
3. Why do I feel so lonely and sad?
4. Why do I do the things I do? They're irresponsible and destructive, I know that! Yet, here I am again–overeating or overspending.
5. Why do I feel so restless, angry, and impatient?
6. How can I improve my life and myself?
I believe the primary causes and also the answers to these important questions are:
a) We lack psychological/mental and spiritual nourishment, solid boundaries, and established foundations.
b) Our physical selves live disconnected from our inner beings.
c) We did not learn the necessary life skills in managing each aspect of how to live a balanced lifestyle.
"Be Happy: How to live your life by design" is an easy and simplistic guide to help us find a better, happier way to live.

Excerpt:
PREVIOUS PSYCHOLOGICAL AND/OR PHYSICAL TRAUMA WITHIN OUR BRAIN
Injury sustained inside our brain is the most difficult to diagnose and to treat. In the case of motor vehicle accidents or physical traumas, physicians have the advantage of background information as to what happened. In turn, they can automatically activate an emergency plan of treatment, such as a stroke protocol, CT scan, medications, and observation via in-patient hospitalization.
However, most of us are what can be classified as “the walking wounded.” We have unresolved psychological traumas and/or untreated brain injuries. To function or cope with daily living, we subconsciously self-medicate to soothe or to provide the missing chemicals that our brain requires. Our irresponsible behaviors and/or addictions are symptoms. It’s a cry for help. However, when we do seek treatment, we often focus on the symptoms and neglect the source of our sufferings.
First example: EATING DISORDER
Please, let’s not rely solely on suggestions from diet/health books to lose weight or to overcome anorexia. I agree that they are necessary materials because of the important information they provide. However, first, we must bravely ask ourselves these questions:
a) What is causing this restlessness?
b) What is my body/mind asking me to take care of?”
The answer might be that we must join a survivors’ support group or speak to a therapist. This is a situation that we cannot “tough it out, just be disciplined, and/or get over it!”
Let’s be kind to ourselves and give voice to our sorrows.
My review. I found this book to be informative. "The greatest treasure in life is - loving one's self." I agree. There is no getting away from yourself, so you need to love yourself. Aisa explains each topic in the book in her own simplistic way.

The Early Buzz "This book has been by far the best written book that I have ever read. The way this author uses language to describe exactly what is going on is amazing. I find myself at a loss for words, the writing is so eloquent. I was instantly drawn into this book. I was disappointed that this story wasn't longer, but that didn't at all take away from the story." ~ 5 Star Review, Jack Magnus, Readers Favorite

About the Author: C.L. Murphy[caption id="attachment_11686" align="alignleft" width="220"]
C.L. Murphy and Lovable Lobo[/caption] While new to the children's book writing and illustrating scene, C.L. has been doodling her way through life since she won a school wide poster contest in the third grade. She's had the pleasure of working as an artist in residence, creating cartoons and painting murals with the children at local elementary schools. She adores the wonder and curiosity of young children. For years, she filed picture book ideas away, until the reality of the empty nest syndrome sunk in and she decided to bring her favorite one to fruition. She based the character,
Lovable Lobo
, on something very dear to her heart, a real wolf that she's raised for the last 13 years. She's felt the need to protect him his entire life, primarily due to the preconceived notions that wolves are to be feared. She lives amongst the wildlife in an enchanted forest in the beautiful Oregon wilderness. She has always appreciated nature and animals have always played a major role in her life. She was that little girl who brought home the strays asking "Can we please keep it?" At an early age she realized her connection with animals by training a wild bluejay to appear on command to take food from her hand. Check out her book series and discover that you, too, will find Lobo lovable.
