Lobotomy...libido...same thing.
I was at work yesterday (I'm a dental assistant for those of you who don't know) and it was me, my boss, his wife, and a patient in the office.
My boss said something about needing his head drilled out (don't ask) and I said, "You mean like a libido?"
Instantly, I was thinking, that's not right.
I quickly corrected myself with, "I mean lobotomy," but no one said anything.
Now, I'm not sure if no one HEARD my faux pas, or if no one wanted to address it. Either way, I felt dumb.

Why I Wrote Safe and Sound
One of countless rules for writing a book: think of something original that no one else has written about.
I'm going to share something personal: I didn't follow that rule with Safe and Sound. I wrote Safe and Sound with no care for how original it was or wasn't, or how popular it was or wasn't going to be.
I wrote Safe and Sound for me, for anyone who's been in a similar situation, and wanted to give up, but somehow found an inner strength not to. I wrote it as a way to let go of the past, as a form of release from it.
The only prisons we must break free from are the ones we create in our own minds. The past being the biggest one...
That being said, I had no idea how much this story would affect the people that read it, and it's amazing to hear from people and realize how much this story touched the readers of it.
