While downtown the town is very touristy and safe, we lived in a neighborhood with drug dealers and prostitutes and it wasn't uncommon to hear gunfire throughout the day. I wasn't working (this is when I started writing novels) and I knew exactly where to stand if anyone ever showed up at my door with a gun. We had bars on the doors, which means an arm could fit through, but we had a steel door so if I stood in a certain spot along the concrete wall behind the door, they wouldn't be able to shoot me.

I always thought that could make for an intriguing start to a story...(less)

For underage drinking & driving, some take away a license for a month or two, others for a year, so I split it down the middle. A lot offer community service in lieu of jail time.

Plus one of my early readers is a lawyer so she tells me if something's off.(less)
