While downtown the town is very touristy and safe, we lived in a neighborhood with drug dealers and prostitutes and it wasn't uncommon to hear gunfire throughout the day. I wasn't working (this is when I started writing novels) and I knew exactly where to stand if anyone ever showed up at my door with a gun. We had bars on the doors, which means an arm could fit through, but we had a steel door so if I stood in a certain spot along the concrete wall behind the door, they wouldn't be able to shoot me.

I always thought that could make for an intriguing start to a story...(less)

Because I never say where these books take place, I looked at laws in several states and took averages. For underage drinking & driving, some take away a license for a month or two, others for a year, so I split it down the middle. A lot offer community service in lieu of jail time.

Plus one of my early readers is a lawyer so she tells me if something's off.(less)

50th Bucket List Recap

Tomorrow's my 51st birthday, so as the final day of my 50th year, I thought I'd do a recap of some B-I-G goals I made for myself. I must admit, when I first made this list, I truly thought I'd do every single thing. After all, they're all things I want to do, so it seemed simple.

“The line between truth and fiction is nothing more than a shadow moving across a sundial, marking time by falsehoods and tears and a resentment that’s grown so strong it threatens to overwhelm my very existence.”
