Halloween Card of the Day - Maureen Grigs

Here's a Halloween card by Maureen Grigs.

I like all the motion and detail in the image.

Unlike a scary Halloween cat, this cat is inviting and welcomes you -- a nice touch.

Here's a close up:

I could see this cat character being used in additional ways for other holidays and occasions.

How to Give Away Art to Random Strangers via Bicycle

Two friends and I are submitting our art to "PaperGirl" this year, a community project that distributes art by bicycle, freely and at random, to people in the streets of San Francisco.

Here is the art piece I'm submitting.  I'm making 25 copies and hand signing each one.

On November 2nd there is an art gallery show that will display one piece from each artist.

Then on November 11th we will get on bicycles and hand out the art to strangers on the street.

Evolution of a Greeting Card Line

[image error] Check out the the article "Evolution of a Greeting Card Line"  on the Artsy Shark blog about the stages a new artist goes through when developing a card line: http://www.artsyshark.com/2012/10/10/evolution-of-a-greeting-card-line/

It is also an interesting personal story of how an artist brought her religious faith into her art.

Halloween Cards by Wendy Wood

Here are some cute handmade Halloween cards submitted by Wendy Wood.  Check out her other cool Halloween cards on ETSY.

I think she has done a great job at making Halloween feel playful, and receiving one of these cards would indeed be special.

My only suggestion: I'm thinking she could easily raise her $3.50 price point, but perhaps in this "scary" economy she'll develop a fan club.  I'd also like to see her picture on her etsy page.  Who is this fun artist behind the art?

Do you have any additional comments for Wendy?

Mixing Halloween with the Nightly News

Just got the yard decorated for Halloween.  Just like greeting cards, humor is best when the timing is right with current events.

Unusual Halloween Card - Revelle Taillon

This Halloween card by Revelle Taillon is very interesting.  I haven't seen anything quite like it.  A little mix of nostalgia, Edgar Allan Poe feeling and graphic textures. I particularly like the colors, even though they are not traditional Halloween colors.  A publisher might request the colors be changed, but would you change them if it was your card?

Card Review of the Day - Artist Alex Colombo

ABOUT CARD REVIEWS: Periodically I will select a greeting card submitted to this blog and comment on it for educational purposes.  If you would like your card considered, see guidelines for submissions.

ARTIST ALEX COLOMBO

Here is a beautiful card by artist Alex Colombo.  I like the hand printed feeling and subtle textures.

Possible Tweaks? The uplifting message is touching and important. I'm wondering if it could be a little brighter or darker so that it pops out a bit more.  What do you think?

Street Art Show in Abandoned Building

Abandoned Flint Ink Factory

Recently a man here in Berkeley bought an abandoned 3 story factory and allowed 100 street artists to come inside and decorate it before he remodeled it.

Without much publicity, word got around and several thousand people showed up to the opening on the first day. It made me realize that people LOVE street art.

He opened it to the public for one month and I went by to see it with some friends. The show was called "Special Delivery."

Marie Jensen, who runs the greeting card company February Stars was also there and took the photos below.

She says since school art programs are being cut, she likes to give her kids "Alternative Arts" education.  You can see her kids in the photos.

What abandoned buildings are in your neighborhood?  Maybe suggest your community do the same thing?
