Excerpt (356 words):

“Open the door, Paige,” Kenneth demanded in between knocks.

He pulled up just in time to see her walk into her front door. His athlete’s reflexes were not enough to make it before she slammed it in his face.

Finally the door swung open. “I need you to leave.”

Kenneth pushed himself inside and reached out to tilt her face upward. He felt the dampness on her skin and felt worse.

“I probably shouldn’t have left, but I didn’t know what to expect after last night.”

Paige pulled back, wrapping her arms around herself. “You didn’t know? Or didn’t care.”

Kenneth leaned against the wall and let his head fall back. “Paige, you were drunk.”

“And that makes this better?”

“No, it doesn’t.”

He looked at her while she took a seat at the bottom of her steps.

“Why did you do that?”

Paige looked away, chewing nervously on her lip while tugging at her shirtsleeve. “I don’t know.”

“I think you do.”

“Is that what you do? Psychoanalyze the women you sleep with the morning after?”

“Paige, I don’t have any regrets about last night except for one.”

She looked up and searched his face to prepare her for what he was about to say. “And that is?”

“That I was the only one that actually wanted to be there.”

Paige pulled back and stared at him. “You make it sound like I used you.”

“Didn’t you?”

Paige huffed. “We have to work together until you’re released back to your team. I can’t have this conversation with you every time we cross paths.”

“And you won’t.” He stared back to her and sat on the staircase next to her. “Look at me, Paige.”

She glanced up, releasing the edge of her sleeve. Her expectancy and uncertainty warned him that whatever he had to say, he needed to be careful in how he delivered it.

“Typically, I don’t care about what happens the morning after, but there’s something in your eyes that tells me last night was more than just a one nighter for you.”

“What makes you think that?”

“Because last night scared me, too.”

Redeeming The Amazon by L.V. Lewis ~ Cover Reveal and Mini Blog Hop ~ #Nov #DenofSinSeries #EroticRomance #ASMSG

DOS_promo_fullcovers

My next offering in late December, if the platforms cooperate, will be a Den of Sin Novella entitled Redeeming The Amazon. This series came to be when a group of authors I kick it with on almost a daily basis and I, had a conversation in our ongoing Facebook chat room. We began to brainstorm about a series that we originally nicknamed The Kinky Series, for lack of a better name at the time. We thought it would be fun to create a world where several times a year, some very lucky people were invited to come to this place in New Orleans where they could “leave their inhibitions at the door.” Thus, the “Den of Sin” was born. http://www.denosinseries.com

What is this series about?

The Beaudelaire Hotel, set in New Orleans, is not just a five star hotel critically-acclaimed for satisfying the rich and elite. Several times a year the hotel becomes the Den of Sin, where all desires and fantasies come to life.

The series, written by Mel (Melissa) Blue, Holley Trent, Ambrielle Kirk and yours truly will debut on December 6, and a book will debut each week until they are all published. And it will behoove you as readers to get the book early as they will each be at a lower price until the next book is released.

So, without further fanfare, I’d like to introduce you to Redeeming The Amazon:

LV_DOS_fullsize

Blurb

Most come to The Beaudelaire Hotel a select few times a year just to indulge in sexual fantasy, but the stakes are higher for Karen Freeman and Paul Beaudelaire this New Year’s weekend. Karen is nine years post-op from a double mastectomy, and her vain ex-husband hadn’t agreed with her decision to remove her remaining good breast or to eschew reconstruction. In the end, that decision cost her. She lost her marriage, but she’s certain the move has prolonged her life.

Returning to a normal dating and sex life has been difficult. She hasn’t made love fully unclothed since the demise of her marriage, and her most significant relationship occurred right after her surgery. When she was still recuperating, she had an affair of the heart with a Marine amputee who’d also been her Ph.D. classmate.

Paul Beaudelaire once led a charmed life as a ladies’ man who had his pick of women in the upper echelons of New Orleans society. He’d been satisfied to continue in that vein, until a Marine recruiter wooed him from LSU with tales of valor, courage, and commitment. His career in the corps cut short by the loss of his left leg, Paul returned to New Orleans with the best prosthesis Johns Hopkins orthopedics experts could fit him with. However, he left his heart in Baltimore with a beautiful former model, whose crippled marriage was the only deterrent to his waning honor.

Will this fantasy weekend at his uncle Henri’s hotel give him a second chance with his contemporary Amazon, or will her fear of rejection be a barrier to their reconnection?

Excerpt

“What just happened?” Paul asked. “We were in a good place until all of a sudden, we weren’t.”

Karen shrugged like an awkward, inexperienced teen who wasn’t sure of herself. Afraid to go to that point of no return with the boy she liked, whom she wasn’t sure would like her in the morning. He hated that the cancer had done that to her. Robbed her of her confidence.

“Karen, I will not hurt you.”

She smiled. He’d been going for intimacy, for sincerity, but apparently his heartfelt declaration struck her as funny.

“You know I won’t take advantage if you let me in,” he said, giving her a glimpse of his own vulnerability. This was as much about him as it was about her. Then he realized this statement was innuendo-laden as well, when her grin broadened.

“Exactly how do I know this?”

He would not let a moment of levity steal the inroads he was determined to make. “Because you know I’ve been where you are, even though on the surface it looks like I’ve dealt with and overcome all my issues with body image. Will you take a chance and go places with me intimately that you’ve not gone with anyone else?” He hoped like hell she could trust him to do this. She hadn’t turned down his request out of hand when Seraphina presented it to her, so there had to be something to her acceptance of him as her Den of Sin partner.

“How cunning. You knew the one thing–the only thing–that makes living inside our imperfections so difficult. I’m not surprised you get it.”

She smiled, that same smile he saw in his fantasies of her. The one that says more than her words. Through squinted eyes, laugh lines seemed to appear around them from nowhere. There was no guile, or arrogance in it, just the tentative smile of a woman who was once very self-assured and was again trying it on for size.

It was that smile Paul responded to as well as other very interesting things about her. The way she walked with such grace, one might literally believe she was floating. The way she saw through bullshit as if she had a built in meter for it. Even his. He couldn’t help liking even that about her. The intensity with which she viewed life was even atypical, a study in contradictions for one who’d stared death in the face and made it back down.

“If we do this your way, I’ll have one rule.”

Desperation made him reckless. “Anything.”

“The lights must be off.”

“Except that.” He stood abruptly and began pacing. “Karen, we’re supposed to leave our inhibitions at the door.”

“Who’s to say having the lights out isn’t a way of heightening pleasure? Suppose I were to blindfold you instead?”

He stopped in his tracks, his face split into a smile involuntarily. “That sounds promising, but if we get any kinkier than that, we might have to change floors.”

“Let’s just get the mechanics down now, shall we?”

“That doesn’t sound particularly sexy.”

Her brown eyes twinkled merrily. “I’m going to make you rue that statement.”

“Game on.”

The Wrong Man by Delaney Diamond ~ Book Spotlight! #Nov #SweetRomance #EroticRomance #ASMSG

th_Cover_TheWrongMan_200X300_zps7f4df313

Blurb

They have nothing in common. So why can’t they stay away from each other?

Construction foreman Tomas Molina has no desire to settle down. He enjoys the single life too much, with all the choices of women available to him. But when ad executive Talia Jackson becomes single again, they start an affair that has him questioning his beliefs about relationships. And the next thing he knows, he’s the one demanding exclusivity.

Talia Jackson has always done what’s right. Gone to the right schools, worn the right clothes, and married the right man. Seeking a boost when her marriage ends in divorce, she finds comfort in the arms of Tomas Molina, a man who makes her feel alive in a way she never has before. Then an unexpected result of their affair forces her to make a tough decision—stay in the world she’s known all her life, or make a future with the man she’s grown to love.

Excerpt

The deep timbre of a man’s laughter in the hall caught her attention, and she knew right away who had arrived. Oddly, her pulse jumped a little at the sound of his voice.

Sure enough, in walked Tomas Molina, six feet two inches of flirtatious male. Wearing a pair of snug fitting jeans on his long legs and a black T-shirt that stretched over his powerful chest, he already had women eyeing him as if they wanted to take a bite out of him instead of the food on their plates. Natural blonde highlights streaked through his brown hair, which always had a slightly disheveled look, giving him the appearance of someone who’d just rolled out of bed. At least today he’d pulled the unruly shoulder length locks into a decent-looking ponytail.

One woman stroked his ripped bicep, and he flexed the muscle for good measure. “Buenos días, Tomas,” she purred.

He flashed an open, friendly smile. “Buenos días. ¿Estas bien?”

Sí, gracias.”

Rolling her eyes, Talia picked up a Styrofoam plate and began to spoon potato salad onto it. The way women fawned all over him disgusted her, and he lapped up the attention like a true narcissist. She heard him exchange pleasantries with a few other guests while she lifted the plastic wrap on another container and added coleslaw to her plate.

From the corner of her eye, she saw Tomas stroll over with a lazy gait. “Well, well, Talia Jackson is here.” He peered out the kitchen window at the sky. “No. No pigs are flying.” His Spanish-accented voice, low and husky, reminded her of the actor William Levy.

She and Tomas seldom spoke, but whenever they did, he always had something smart alecky to say. She couldn’t for the life of her figure out what she’d done to make him pick on her all the time. Probably because he was an arrogant chauvinist and she had no qualms about calling him on it. Fortunately she knew how to dish the witty retorts as well as he did.

“Oh look, another T-shirt. What a surprise.”

He apparently never met a T-shirt he didn’t want to own, and it seemed his entire wardrobe consisted of them in all colors. He wore them so tight they banded around his large biceps and molded to the contours of his muscular chest.

Unfazed, he responded, “You notice what I wear? I’m flattered.”

“Don’t be,” Talia said.

He folded his arms and leaned a hip against the counter. “I’m surprised you came.”

“Why wouldn’t I be here for my friends’ housewarming party?”

He shrugged. “You’re such a busy woman. You hardly ever hang out, and every year Shawna invites you to my picnic on Memorial Day weekend, but you never come.”

“If I didn’t know better, I’d say you’re disappointed I don’t.” She lifted the aluminum foil on another container, and when she found the baked chicken, she added a leg to her plate. “Tell you what, I’ll come this year so you won’t feel so neglected.”

“I like it better that you don’t,” he said.

Riiight.” She smirked at him and added corn on the cob to her plate.

She felt his gaze on her, and a prickling sensation crawled up the back of her neck. He had a way of looking at women as if he was undressing them with his eyes. She didn’t know if he did it on purpose or not, but it made her feel stripped bare in his presence. Every time he came near, she became hyper-aware of him and a little anxious, a little…breathless. Even his voice made her feel odd. She liked the sound of his rich baritone too much, and the physiological responses she experienced at his proximity were clearly inappropriate.

“We should call a truce,” he said.

“Are we at war?”

He chuckled. “You always have an answer, don’t you? No, we’re not at war. At least, I don’t want to be. We should try being friends since our best friends are married to each other.”

“That would be boring, wouldn’t it, if we got along?”

“So you like fighting with me, is that it?” His eyes mirrored the question. They stood out against his swarthy skin, and she wondered how she’d never noticed how attractive they were before. Light brown. No flecks of green or other colors, only a pure, antiqued gold like a strong whiskey.

Did she like arguing with him? Maybe she did. Their sparring matches always left her buzzing with energy afterward, and after the meeting with her grandmother, she welcomed the interaction.

“Even if I do,” she said, “you like it way more than I do. You’re always the one who gets the fights started, like you did a minute ago.”

“Only because you need it.”

“Need it?” Talia cocked an eyebrow. “You have to explain what you mean.”

“You’re one of those women who can get out of hand, so I have to keep you grounded. You have a…cómo se dice? Oh, I remember.” He snapped his fingers. “You have a Napoleon complex.”

She shot him her Are-you-for-real? look. “I don’t think so.”

“Yes, you do. It’s because you’re so short.” He sliced his hand horizontally from his nose over the top of her head. “See?”

Talia stood up straighter, as if she could grow taller by sheer will power. “I do not have a Napoleon complex, and anyway, I’m pretty sure that only applies to men.”

He looked amused. “No, I’m sure the complex applies to women, too. I have a perfect example standing right in front of me. How’s the weather down there?”

She cut her eyes at him and continued searching for food.

“No response? I’m so disappointed,” he said.

“I’m ignoring you for the rest of the day.”

“This is a first. I silenced Talia Jackson all by myself, and I didn’t need to tape her mouth. I should make an announcement.” He picked up a piece of baked chicken with his hand.

There are tongs.” Talia held up a set. “What are you, a barbarian?”

“We called a truce, remember?” He bit into the chicken and winked.

She stared at him for a moment and then shook her head, laughing. He was so ridiculous. How freeing it must be to do as you please and not worry about what others think.

She noted the expression on Tomas’s face but couldn’t decipher the look.

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

He took another bite of chicken and finished chewing before he answered her question. He grinned. “You should smile more.”

My Quest For A Blog Tour ~#NOV #ExitStrategyBlogTour #ASMSG #EroticRomance

ES 3D Front CoverAs the publication  date of my most recent book Exit Strategy became imminent, I began to look for one of those promotion sites, book blogs, and/or blog tour companies to sponsor a tour for my book. Having never done a blog tour before, admittedly I was naive to the workings of this new method of getting exposure for one’s book. I quickly found out that one has to book such things, especially if it is a very popular venue, months ahead of time. When I figured that out after multiple rejections for this reason, I decided to pull together my own hastily crafted tour, of sorts. My author friends and readers responded, and I had a successful release.

Since the debut of Exit Strategy it has slipped in the rankings and while I’ve learned a lot about the publishing process in general since becoming a published writer, I haven’t quite learned how one keeps a book in its genre rankings. So, I began to inquire again of blog tour sites regarding the earliest date I could get a review tour in 2014, in order to boost the book again after its release on October 27th.

It was then I became aware that no matter what type of flexibility I offered to the Blog Tour sites, they all kept saying, “Thanks, but no thanks.” First it was the time frame, so I asked for any available dates in early 2014, then it was “We have not been successful promoting your type of book,” or “It’s adult fiction. Oh, we thought you were NA.” Then some didn’t sugarcoat, they just said “No.”

I began to wonder, “Why don’t they want my money? Is my subject matter the issue? The fact that I write interracial romance? Is it that it’s a loosely based parody?” I couldn’t figure out why I was being blackballed by these sites, since I have a reasonably successful first book with more than 200 reviews on Amazon and it’s still selling relatively well. I was stymied (and let me be honest here, my feelings were a little hurt).

Since becoming an indie published author, I was used to the FREE promo sites giving authors of erotic romance a hard time. However, I was not of the impression that the Book Blogs and/or Tour Sites were also selective. However, I’m seeing that most of the bigger ones are, and even if they have tours that you can pay for, they have the right to refuse whoever they want.

As a little-known African American writer, I don’t know how to feel about this in the twenty-first century. I understand if you have moral issues with what I write. I even understand if you’re a blog that features only Christian/ Inspirational, YA,  and other genres that cater to the younger set, you don’t want to feature my book. However, most of the Contemporary Romances out there today have heat levels just as incendiary as mine, so I just didn’t get why I was being singled out.

il_170x135.391567031_wgx5

Finally, I took my concern to some author friends and they were supportive to the point of being outraged on my behalf. One of them even went so far as to secure a spot for me with the blog I’m going to have a tour with in December. I was buoyed by their support of me, despite having doors slammed shut in my face by some of the very groups they had recommended me to previously.

I’m writing this because I want others to be aware that there is inequity in the way many blog tour sites conduct their business, and it saddened me to the point of making me depressed about it for a few days. However, the rallying of other indie authors around me, gives me hope that their support will effect the change that needs to happen for those who are still unable to secure these types of services.

Sneak Peek Sunday – The Guardians, Book 2 of the More Trilogy #NOV #YAParanormal #ASMSG

Today, a Sneak Peek of The Guardians, Book Two in the MORE Trilogy
Coming November 7, 2013

Ava’s life is . . . complicated.

After all, it’s not every day a girl learns she’s not entirely human, or unlocks hidden powers strong enough to make even the First Race sit up and take notice. After surviving an attempted kidnapping and standing up to the Race’s Ruling Council, Ava Michaels returns to college and what she hopes is a normal life. But Ava quickly realizes that for her, normal may not even exist anymore.

In fact, the Council wants her under their control, and they’re not the only ones. The mysterious Rogues have a plan of their own, and it turns out Ava’s a big part of it, whether she wants to be or not. On top of that, her new relationship is tested in ways she never expected. Her boyfriend, Caleb Foster, has disappeared-accused of betraying the Race-and Ava herself stands implicated in a crime she didn’t commit.

Clearing both their names will mean uncovering a web of deceit and intrigue with Ava woven right in the center. To unravel the strands, she joins forces with some unlikely allies; a Protector who once haunted her nightmares, a young girl with secrets as unexpected as Ava’s, and a group of rebel Guardians who have their own fight against the Council. Together they stand in a battle to find the truth, bring Caleb home, and secure Ava’s freedom-not to mention save her life.

“Did Balaam tell you how this works?” he asked.

Evan swallowed, his Adam’s apple bobbing as his gaze darted toward the slimy walls and down to the littered ground. He finally focused on Caleb and seemed to square his shoulders. “He said you could . . . teleport us?”

He’d said it more as a question than a statement, and Caleb grinned. It wasn’t the first time he’d had such a reaction. “Yeah. We’re going to have to get close, I’m afraid.” He waved the boy over and turned him around. Men generally tended to be more comfortable if they weren’t face-to-face. “Cross your hands over your chest,” he said, folding his arms over Evan’s firmly. “This will be quick, only a few seconds, but take a deep breath and close your eyes. It can be a little disorienting.”

Evan nodded.

Caleb could feel his heart racing under his arm. “It’s okay,” he said. “Try and relax and it will be over before—” Caleb stiffened at the familiar tingle of a Race presence nearby. He cursed under his breath.

“What is it?” Evan asked.

“Someone’s coming,” he whispered, his hold on Evan tightening in urgency. “Brace yourself; we’ve got to go now.”

They shifted, reappearing in an empty field. Evan staggered as Caleb’s knees buckled and he leaned into him.

“Sorry,” Caleb said, his voice cracking as he reached into his pocket for some R-cubes. “That was a long one. I need a minute.”

“Are you okay?”

Caleb chewed and swallowed with a nod. “Yeah. You?”

Evan nodded, still looking a bit stunned. He turned around in a circle. “Where are we?”

“About fifty miles north of—damn.” Caleb shot to his feet. “They’re here.”

“Who?” Evan paled. “How?”

“I don’t know. Balaam was wrong. They must have a shifter . . . and a tracker of some kind.” He reached for Evan. “I won’t be able to get us far, but we need to shake them. I’m going to try several short shifts instead of a long one.” He popped another cube. “Ready?”

Evan closed his eyes, his hands trembling under Caleb’s. “Ready.”

Caleb took a deep breath and shifted, beginning to wonder if this was one mission he would fail.
