Good Reviews Make Me Happeh!

School Library Journal

05/01/2014

Gr 7 Up—Cade grew up among the trees and caves of Daniel Boone National Forest. Dara grew up in the Kentucky town of Makwa. When a Spring Break camping trip Dara takes with her boyfriend, Josh, turns terrifying, the world of the forest and the world of modern-day Kentucky are thrust together. Cade is forced out of the wilderness and must contend with the media circus forming around him. It may be more than he and Dara can bear. The plotting of this retelling of Edgar Rice Burroughs’s Tarzan of the Apes is smart and will keep readers interested in how Cade came to be in the woods by dropping clues about his mother’s past throughout the narrative. The novel features some romance, but it is not overwrought nor does it override the mystery element. Some mentions of modern technologies such as Tumblr, Skype, and iPhones will date the novel, but they add to Cade’s overwhelming lack of knowledge about the world he is suddenly a part of. A fine addition to any YA collection.—Paige Garrison, Aurora Central Public Library, CO

Cover Reveal (and Giveaway!)

I’ve had this cover for quite some time now. It’s been driving me crazy to sit on it, and I’m so excited that I finally get to share it. So excited, I want to give you things for sharing it!

Tomorrow, I will choose a winner for 2/3 of the prize, a Survival Kit in a Can and a Burt’s Bees Tips & Toes Kit. These items are actually hints about what you’ll find inside the book. Hints that you won’t have to sleep on long, because the other 1/3 of the prize is the very first review copy of WILD!

For the first time, I’m sharing the jacket copy for WILD to tell you all about what it’s all about:

The forest is full of secrets, and no one understands that better than Cade. Foraging, hunting, surviving— that’s all he knows. Alone for years, Cade believes he’s the sole survivor. At least, until he catches a glimpse of a beautiful stranger…

Dara expected to find natural wonders when she set off for a spring break camping trip. Instead, she discovers a primitive boy— he’s stealthy and handsome and he might be following her. Intrigued, Dara seeks him out and sets a catastrophe in motion.

Thrust back into society, Cade struggles with the realization that the life he knew was a lie. But he’s not the only one. Trying to explain life in a normal town leaves Dara questioning it.

As the media swarm and the police close in, Dara and Cade risk everything to get closer. But will the truth about Cade’s past tear them apart?

And now, the COVER!

Wild by Alex Mallory

WOOT! So excited to have that out in the world! And now, if you want to win the prize pack illustrated below in all its strangeness, all you have to do is tweet the cover or tweet this post. For example:

Check out the cover of WILD and win! http://alexmallorybooks.com/?p=202 @Alex_Mallory @HarperTeen @EpicReads

Make sure you @Alex_Mallory or I won’t be able to find your entry! One tweet per person, please. I will select a winner randomly from all entrants tomorrow, September 25th, at noon EST! Open internationally!
