In Limbo (Updates on House, Books, Kaiser, etc.)

Hey All :) I just wanted to write a short post and let you all know that I am dying to get back to some real blogging! But alas, we still don't have the Internet at the new house. The technician came out today, but there were...troubles...so a ticket was put in for a different tech to come out. This sort of cycle went on for 3 weeks the last time we moved. So who knows when I'll be officially "connected" again *sigh*.

In the meantime, I'm hopping on other computers when I can to update Tweets, quickly answer email, etc. I can tell you this much, though, about the new house: I love it!! Kaiser is taking some time adjusting, however. For instance, there are 4 doors in this new house, one front, and 3 back! So when the doorbell rings, it totally confuses him because he's used to seeing us come in the back door, but the person ringing the bell is in the front... That's one thing among many that we are all adjusting to there.

I also wanted to remind you that there are about four days left to enter my WINGS OF THE DIVIDED: THE DIVIDED BOOK 1 paperback giveaway on Goodreads! You can find a widget for it in the right sidebar of this blog as long as the contest is still live! After that contest wraps up, I'm going to do an exclusive giveaway contest right here on the blog. I'll be giving away 1 autographed copy in the blog giveaway, so if you don't win the Goodreads one, you can certainly try again and enter the one here!

As far as SONG OF THE DIVIDED: THE DIVIDED BOOK 3 is concerned, I have a few very special hand-picked critique partners going over the manuscript, and I hope to have that available for you by June. Laphelle and the gang are ready to wrap up their story and let you experience the finale!

Hope everyone's doing well in the meantime! I apologize if I seem distant and scatterbrained! As soon as we have the Internet at the house, I'm going to upload some pictures of the house and do a post about it (one picture in particular is what I did with the fireplace!), so stay tuned!

Thursday's Two Cents

I don't care what sort of labels you carry.

I don't care whether you're a Christian, Agnostic, Atheist, Buddhist, and so on.

I don't care whether you're gay, straight, bi, whatever.

I don't care whether you're dirt poor or filthy rich.

I don't care what color your skin is or what language you speak.

There are two types of people in the world:

1) The greedy kind of person who is only out for him or herself

or

2) The person with a conscience who loves his fellow human being and who works to make the world a better place.

Those two things are what I will be looking for when I decide whether to have your back. None of that other stuff makes a dent.

So. Forget all of the other labels, and ask yourself:

Are you Type 1? Or Type 2?

Cheating Death Blog Tour!

Hey, friends! Today I'm blogging as part of the Cheating Death Blog Tour, spotlighting author Jen Naumann and her newest release!

Here's the gist of the story:

Lysandra Brooks remembers everything about the day she almost drowned alongside her grandma, especially the set of mysterious eyes she saw at the bottom of the lake. Ever since then, she's been seeing strange things when she is near water—things that aren't really there. Because of it, Lysandra has the tendency to avoid anything that isn't on dry land. On her last day of high school, however, the biggest party of the year is set to take place at a fellow senior's lakeside mansion. Despite her fears, Lysandra decides to prove to her friends and herself that she can handle it.
But after a horrific night of drinking and drama that leaves Lysandra feeling lonely and confused, she nearly drowns for a second time, only to be saved by the new guy in town. From that moment on, Lysandra's world is turned upside down with the discovery of mind blowing secrets, including a revelation that something sinister is after her soul.

Here's the author's bio:Jen grew up during a magical time in which Ghostbusters, Star Wars, E.T. and The Goonies were the biggest blockbusters. Her love of sci-fi exploded over time, eventually growing into a career of writing YA fiction with a paranormal flair. When not sitting at her Mac, she can be found at concerts and movies, hanging with friends, chilling at her lake home, taking pictures, working on graphic design projects, traveling, or at home with her husband in southern Minnesota and trying to keep up with their four active children.

A few fun questions and answers about Cheating Death:

1) How would you describe your writing style to someone who had never read your work?

I would say that I'm very simplistic and my stories move along quickly. I have such a short attention span that I have to keep things speeding along to keep myself interested. I mostly write to entertain and won't be winning any nobel prizes anytime soon for my prose.

2) What was your main source of inspiration for this particular book?

When I was really young I fell off a dock with my mom. Although I felt like I was drowning at the time and remember the sensation of hitting the water upside down and backwards, we weren't in very deep water and I probably wasn't in any real danger. The rest of the story just kind of evolved from that one incident. I didn't know at the time that I would be writing about ghosts and such.

3) If you could cast your main two characters in the Hollywood movie version, who would play them?

This is really tough because I never have any real people in mind when creating characters, although I must confess that in junior high I used to write books after cutting out pictures from magazines of gorgeous models. I still have some of the "boards" I created. They're hilarious.
I discovered this Brant Daugherty guy when looking into the Pretty Little Liars series. He certainly has the gorgeous eyes to play Adiyn.
Emilia Clarke (as her natural brunette self) from Game of Thrones is close to the Lysandra I have in mind. Very pretty, yet she could be your next door neighbor.

My Favorite Fallen Angels in Film

I don't know if any of you watch that new show The Bible. I haven't seen any of the episodes yet. There was already a lot of controversy surrounding it, but now, things have gotten even crazier. Seems the show is portraying its Satan as looking like someone quite familiar in the U.S. government! For more on that, click -->here<--.

Personally, I just shake my head at any sort of politicizing in that department. As many of you know, I have a particular affinity for angels and demons, and I have my own opinions of what they're supposed to look like. (And for the record, it's not President Obama.)

For those of you who might be curious, I would like to share with you a few clips from some films that I feel portray these wayward angels in a way that I personally think they should be portrayed. Yes, I'm biased, but I'm allowed to be. ;)

First up, whatever you think of Mel Gibson, put those thoughts aside. I felt like his interpretation of the Devil in The Passion of the Christ was pretty freakin awesome, not only because of the sexually ambiguous mystery of the character, but because he's creepy in that pretty-yet-totally-unnerving sort of way. Watch this scene to see what I'm talking about:

Next up is a Fallen angel named Balthazar, played by Gavin Rossdale, in the movie Constantine. You'll have to be patient because he doesn't show up until the end of the scene, but he's got the perfect mix of cockiness and a pinch of "I'm-about-to-make-you-uncomfortable" that give a spark to his personality. (Warning: this scene's not for kids-it's got some language and stuff.) Check it out:

And for my last two scenes, let me present to you Sephiroth from the animated movie Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children. Sephiroth is not technically an angel in the traditional sense, but he might as well be one. And he's precisely what I think a Fallen angel/Lucifer should look like:

And here's the second Sephiroth scene, where he is reborn into his awesome self. (It's complicated. Just go with it.):

What do you think the Devil looks like? If you agree with me, you might be interested in starting my trilogy. My Fallen angels are of the gorgeous evil variety, like all good tempters should be...
