Second Chances
I started writing FIRST in the summer of 2014. As I began my research, I asked my husband (now ex-husband) to be my subject matter expert. I bombarded him with questions about his time in boot camp and the Marines. Since there was a ten year age difference between us, I didn’t know him during that time. I wanted to be as accurate as possible.
I searched YouTube for the date and time of his graduation from boot camp, since many parents and families filmed the ceremony (more than I’d have guessed for the lack of technology back in the late eighties and early nineties.) I ended up finding his exact graduation ceremony, and there was even some candid footage of him and his friends before the ceremony.
At the time, though he was a man about to go and fight in a war, I was a fifth grader in elementary school. I wrote letters to the troops as part of a class project. I had no idea that he existed in the world, and I was still hell-bent on marrying Kirk Cameron someday. (Thank God for unanswered prayers.)

Thankful
Once upon a time, I was a little girl, just like all the other little girls in the 80s and 90s.
Whenever anyone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I’d tell them A WRITER!
I wrote plays. I wrote stories. I wrote fiction in Algebra class instead of equations. I read everything there was to read, especially devouring my grandmother’s romance novels. The seedier, the better. I craved drama and cliché and over-the-top love stories that defied time and logic and society.
Finally, in 2012, I finished a book that, to me, felt like one that I wanted to share with the world. So I self-published Roam… and then it all began.
And, while I was in the middle of book 14 and 15 (I’d often write several at a time)… it all ended.
Reading, writing, all of it.
Poof.
One of my favorite bloggers, The Happy Hausfrau, wrote a blog that perfectly explained what I was feeling after my divorce. She said it best here:
“But like those decimated forests, the old me wasn't really dead. It was just sleeping. And slowly, as the pieces of our lives started falling into their new places and the matter of the kids and I surviving was no longer up for debate, it woke up. It's almost as if something inside of me switched off in order to conserve power, like the SuperSaver switch on our air conditioning unit. Somehow I knew that for me, reading a book was a little bit like falling in love- and I didn't have it in me to do that.” -The Happy Hausfrau
Almost three years passed. I want to say they were difficult years, but, thankfully, the joy these past three years overtook the sorrow. I met the love of my life, and together we made a family.
And, suddenly, I could write again.
I have to thank my friends, my family, and my WONDERFULLY devoted readers for sticking by my side throughout my epic writer’s block. Your compassion will never be forgotten. Love you all!
And now, to REALLY say thank you to all of my readers for being so patient over the last three years, and to show my appreciation for your love and patience, the ENTIRE, NOW COMPLETED MOVIE TRILOGY SERIES will be FREE on Amazon Kindle July 6th - July 10th.
