Excerpt
Angelique Trinette sat on her bed with her knees pulled up to her chest and her arms wrapped around her legs. The small box on the nightstand had arrived in the mail a few days ago. Connor. Heaven knew she wanted him, but it was her birthday. After the way they’d parted last year, she couldn’t imagine why he’d still keep contacting her.
The things she’d said to him…
A swish of fur brushed against her lower back, pulling her back to her bedroom and away from the memories of the tears that flowed after they’d broken up. Kira’s soft feline growl reverberated against her skin. The pinprick of claws bit gently into her flesh. The black panther’s energy buzzed along her body in angry vibrations.
“It’s okay, Kira. I’m fine.”
Kira, Angelique’s inked-on familiar, reacted to her emotions. Since they shared flesh, Angelique had to always be in control, which was one reason why she’d made the choice to leave Connor.
The black panther slid up from its usual spot on her lower back and nuzzled Angelique’s neck. Kira rumbled, almost like a purr, and slid her sleek body against Angelique’s shoulder. The tattoo was a piece of her—a warm, living, breathing thing. The one difference between her familiar and an ordinary cat was the prickle of magical energy she exuded.
Angelique closed her eyes and leaned her forehead against her knees. Connor still cared enough to get in touch, even after all this time, but she had to trust her instincts. Her decision to leave was for his protection too. The weighty pressure of Kira growing and stretching her skin shot a well-known pain through her. She bit her lower lip to hold back her cries. Letting Kira out and into the world made her feel not so alone.
A buzzing from the nightstand snapped her from her melancholy mood, and she jerked her head up to watch her cell phone dance across the cherry wood surface. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and forced her familiar back into her skin. Having Kira out when she was on the phone never went well. The swishing of the mouthy big cat’s tail spoke of her agitation.
Angelique grabbed the phone and nearly dropped it when she looked at the caller ID. Kira huffed and retreated to Angelique’s lower back where she curled up. Vibes of edgy energy from Angelique’s familiar told her that Kira thought she was acting cowardly. Maybe she was, but she couldn’t face hearing his voice. She wouldn’t answer it.
Instead, she set the phone back on the nightstand and stared at it. She thrummed her hands on her knees, tapping a nervous beat. “Go to voicemail,” she whispered. The phone stopped vibrating. From the lack of a follow-up chime, she knew Connor didn’t leave a message. Disappointment flickered within her.
Angelique sucked in a shaky breath and stood, stretching her arms over her head. The tattoo of her familiar was now just a normal carving of ink and flesh. Angelique ached with loneliness. She could awaken her familiar, but it would only irritate Kira.
Part of her wanted to double-check the phone, but no, she wouldn’t do that to herself. Staring at it, she clenched her hands into a fist. This was ridiculous. She headed toward the living room, needing distance from the cell. Her stomach growled as she passed the kitchen. She hadn’t eaten dinner. With providing energy for both her and Kira, food was important. Yet bed called to her, and she’d gladly forgo a meal to sleep. Birthdays always seemed to depress her.
The doorbell rang, and she spun toward the sound, yipping and grabbing her chest. Magical energy rumbled from her familiar. “Easy girl. Back to sleep for you.”
Angelique took a deep breath and strode to the door. She glanced through the peephole and bit her lip hard, holding back a gasp. Her heart leapt into her throat. She’d moved, changed her phone number, and done everything she could to try to prove to him that they couldn’t be together, but he’d remained persistent. Part of her admired that about him. Then again, after how she’d left things, maybe he had a right to an explanation.
She scurried to the window framing the door and pushed back the curtain. Connor glanced her way. His intense gaze locked with hers, and a frown curved his full lips down before they straightened into a thin line. He wore a sleek business suit, as if he’d just gotten off work. In one arm, he carried a large, brown paper bag. If she blocked out the last eleven months, he looked so normal. So many of their happy evenings had started this way.
She let the curtains fall from her fingertips and stepped away from the window. Of all the days for him to find her, it would have to be today.
He knocked on the door this time. “Come on, Angel. Open up.”
She squeezed her hands into fists. Only he called her Angel.
“What do you want?” She glanced up at the ceiling, whispering a prayer.
“I want to talk to you.”
This was proving to be yet another birthday disaster. Although she’d recognized his right to an explanation, she didn’t want to be face-to-face like this with him. Not today.
Her shoulders sagged. Maybe if they talked, she’d finally make him see reason. He’d get it through his thick skull that her problems were the reason they couldn’t be together.
She flipped the deadbolt before opening the door a crack. “Then talk.” Her chances of him being fine with talking on her doorstep were next to none, but she had to try. Connor O’Reilly was too tempting a man to let inside.

Vampire Vs. Werewolf Hop
HI! Thanks so much for stopping by to check out my giveaway on the Vampire Vs. Werewolf Hop.
I LOVE supernaturals. All of them but my favorites are wolves. Why? I am absolutely in love with the idea of wild sex, animal attraction and mating for life. I fully believe there is a little (sometimes more than a little) bit of wild in all of us. Think about the attraction you’ve felt for another. How their scent makes you smile and can turn you on. How you smell that person’s cologne/perfume and you immediately think of them. How you might enjoy love bites and at times some quick hard loving. That animal appeal is such a turn on for me. Thinking of how a man can look at you with so much wild hunger that he can make you so hot you tremble. That’s how I see my werewolves, and that’s why I love writing them.

SSS: Wynter’s Captive…final bit before release!!!

When they crash land and Kara shows him how much she wants him, he decides to quit being so professional and take the woman of his dreams. After all, what happens in the middle of nowhere, stays in the middle of nowhere. Until they’re rescued.
Back in the real world, things aren’t as easy. Kara is afraid to start a relationship with a man who completely ignored her until she took off her clothes, and Max is afraid she’ll never be able to trust him. But when someone makes it clear that Kara’s in danger, Max has more to protect than Kara’s feelings. And now that he has her, he’s not about to let her go.

Guest Blog – New Year’s Goals – C. Descoteaux
Today I want to welcome fellow Etopian Charley Descoteaux and her sexy novella Comfort and Joy.
I’m a big fan of Charley’s cover and the excerpt is outstanding! Charley is going to share with you some New Year’s goals. Take it away Charley!
New Year’s Goals
Thanks for having me, Milly! I hope your family had a wonderful holiday!
Goals for the New Year seemed like an easy subject, but I’m one of those Resolutionists who usually make long lists and accomplish maybe one or two things on each! For many years I listed the same goal on every list: to have a novel published. I’ve been lucky with short stories, but only the tame ones – it seemed the steamier they got the more rejections I got.
I took a couple of years off from seeking publication to deal with health issues, and when I ventured back the wild world of ebooks greeted me! I was like a kid in a candy store, running around the internet sampling all the sweet and spicy treats. It took a little while, but I realized the kinds of stories the mainstream publishers had been rejecting were exactly what I was reading! I dove right in and started writing with the goal of being published again, but this time the bedroom doors all stayed open.
I love my sexy guys, and plan to keep writing their stories as long as they’ll keep talking to me. I’m also hoping to stretch outside the contemporary romance genre in 2013. I’ve been working on a paranormal erotic romance that can’t decide if it wants to be a mystery or a thriller and it’s been a lot of fun.
What’s on your list of goals for 2013?

How much love does it take to heal the wounds of hate?
Sam and Charlie have been together over a decade, and their commitment to each other has only grown stronger through the years. But love isn’t always easy, and eighteen months after a violent assault, their fairy-tale relationship is still struggling. Charlie can’t shake the lingering fear of attracting more violence by displaying affection, and he’s angry at himself for not getting past it. Sam would do anything to help Charlie feel better—if only he knew what that was.
The century-old farmhouse in Northwest Oregon is the perfect place to spend the holidays with Sam’s family, but it was their refuge after the attack, and it still holds painful memories of those difficult first months. Christmas should be a joyful time, but even being surrounded by people who love him isn’t enough to make Charlie feel safe. He could try to keep to himself, but even if Sam agreed to give him the space he needs, Sam’s warm and loving family might not. And even though they agreed not to exchange gifts, Sam has a surprise up his sleeve that he hopes will make everything merry and bright. But he may end up more surprised than Charlie before the week is out…
Excerpt:
Sam continued up the stairs, considering how to go about putting Charlie’s perfect ass on a piano bench became entangled with the unfortunate fact that as long as they slept upstairs they would be showering separately. He gave Charlie first chance at the hot water and then sped through his shower as fast as he could. Sam stopped just inside the bedroom door and closed it quietly. He towelled his hair and let his gaze linger on Charlie, lying still on top of the quilt, bare feet on the floor, partially covered with a green towel. A slice of moonlight filtered through the curtain on the opposite wall and across Charlie’s body, which was a work of art even when not bathed in romantic mood-lighting. After a few moments Sam realized Charlie was also watching him.
Charlie flipped the towel up and away from his body and Sam felt as though someone had just grabbed him by the throat. After barely a heartbeat’s hesitation he strode to the foot of the bed and leaned over Charlie to kiss him. Sam’s free hand caressed his slender chest and shoulders. When he felt goose bumps Sam lowered himself over Charlie but kept all his weight on both knees and one hand.
Sam moaned softly and moved his dark hand over the fair skin on Charlie’s abs. He hadn’t regained any of the bulk he’d lost but made up for it with dizzying definition and a solidity he hadn’t had before.
“Vanilla ice cream.” Sam began to kiss his way down Charlie’s chest and felt a cool hand on his head exerting a gentle pressure, urging him lower.
“You’re lactose intolerant.”

I’ve been gifted a lot of books through the years. Some were exactly to my taste and others not so much. I think with each book I found something in it to keep me reading it. My favorite book is an OLD romance with the words Fleur de Lis in the title. It’s in English but it’s about a Russian princess who lost her memory and wakes up married to a privateer. The romance and the action in that book kept me sighing for the entire duration. I got that book almost twenty years ago and treasured it for a long time. But with moves and things of that nature, I lost it at some point. I was devastated. I loved that story so much I went on Amazon looking for it. And I found it!!!
I bought it and it’s at home. I read it again but after so many years, and my own writing happening, it was still good, but now I looked at it differently, through the eyes of a writer. I still love the story and will always treasure it for what it was, one of the many romances that pushed my love of writing…
