Answers + Sworn To Raise on NetGalley
Answers to common questions I’ve been getting.
1. Sworn to Raise (Courtlight #1) comes out April 10th and I’m super excited. There’s still a chance to win a copy on through the Goodsreads Giveaway until April 20th.
2. Sworn To Raise will be able for request from NetGalley soon – so request a copy to review!
3. Casbah Guardian (Algardis #2) does not have a cover yet but I will be working with the same artist. I’m thinking this one will feature Maride.
4. Sworn To Transfer (Courtlight #2) is up on Goodreads – add it to your To-Read section.
I hope that helps everyone and gives you something to anticipate. Now I’m off to work on some editing notes for Sworn to Raise and get the final product ready.

Sworn to Raise coming April 10th + Another Giveaway!
Here’s a big update. I wish I could say this is going to be coming in March 2013 but I can’t. It’s not ready yet. I know plenty of people are excited with over 2,000 people entered in the Goodreads Giveaway (closes on March 15th!) and over 1,400 signed up To-Read the book.
But I’m pushing back the release of Sworn to Raise to April 10th. Sorry for the delay but I need to finish reviews of edits and work with my team to get the eBook and Print versions up for the sale on the same day.
But if you want to read it sooner you’ll be able to grab a review copy on NetGalley April 1st. Just leave a review and tell your friends.
So please be patient and sign up to receive my newsletter. You’re get an email the minute the book is up on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and iTunes.
As a big thank you I’ll be giving away one paperback copy and one ebook copy of Sworn to Raise to two lucky readers in addition to my Goodreads Giveaway.
How do you enter? Leave a comment and tell me what you MOST look forward to in your fantasy reads.
Seventeen-year-old Ciardis has grown up in poverty, a cleaner in a small vale on the outskirts of the kingdom. But beneath her kingdom’s seemingly idyllic surface lies a hidden secret. Whispers of an inept crown Prince are growing ever louder—intensified by the five year anniversary of the soulbond initiations.
Amidst scandalous whispers, Ciardis finds herself chosen to train for the Companion’s Guild. She leaves her home and sets off on a personal journey to become a Court Companion. A position she’d never thought possible for a lowly servant to obtain, she must prove that she has the skills to attract a Patron.
But she must master those skills quickly. If the legends are true, only Ciardis can harness the power to raise a Prince in an Imperial Court sworn to bring him down.

The Next Big Thing
Post-Apocalyptic Fiction Writer T.W. Piperbrook tagged me for “The Next Big Thing.” His post-apocalyptic fiction with infected human zombies, including Contamination: Book Zero St. Matthews and Contamination: Book One The Onset, can be found on Amazon and other online retailers, and we hope to see his third novel sometime in February 2013.
1) What is the working title of your current/next book? Sworn to Raise
2) Where did the idea come from? The book is actually a prequel to my young adult fantasy novel, Red Madrassa. As Red Madrassa was being published a new book series came nudging into my mind – a series that focused solely on a smart, sassy and brilliant young woman who could save her kingdom. Rather than a sequel to Red Madrassa, this book called Sworn to Raise, is the companion to it. It’s a bigger book, early readers say it’s a better book, and it’s just about ready to share with you.
4) What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition? Hmm, I like this question. I can only think of one for now and that would definitely be Selena Gomez playing the part of my main character Ciardis Vane, who is a gypsy cleaner turned Princess Companion of Hispanic descent.
5) What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book? A young woman who never thought she could go beyond her small town is chosen for the Companion’s Court and learns that only she can raise a Prince before an Imperial Court sworn to bring him down.
6) Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency? Self-published. My first book was self-published in November 2012 and it’s doing really well. I love the freedom of setting my own publishing schedule, choosing the cover art, and uploading to Amazon. The first sale notification is like Nirvana.
7) How long did it take you to write the first draft? Depends – my first book took a year. This next one is taking half of that.
8) What other books would you compare this story to within your genre? I think the Courtlight series is most like Michelle Sagara’s Chronicle of Elantra series and Kristine Cashore’ Graceling series.
Happy New Years!

Bibliophiles Thoughts On Books
I can’t thank everyone enough for supporting me and the amazing teens of my world! Now…onto the reveal. First, let’s check out the blurb for Sworn to Raise:
SWORN TO RAISE (Courtlight Series, Book One)
This sensational series debut melds intricate storylines with remarkable characters and unforgettable magic. Sworn To Raise is ideal for fans of Kristin Cashore, Michelle Sagara, and Maria Snyder.

And now, the cover reveal. But before I do I NEED to give so much credit to my amazing cover artist. Sworn to Raise was designed by the brilliant Kalen O’Donnell. If you’re in the market, be sure to hire her! Now, a drum roll please…
What do you think??

A Printed Red Madrassa
** Red Madrassa is FREE on Amazon from December 15th – 17th! Click here to grab a copy or order a PRINT version for your holiday reading.**
Earlier last week I got the proof version of Red Madrassa in the mail. When I say *I* I mean my mother got the print version and my best friend sent me pictures of it by email. True love there. I’ll be able to hold it in my hands this week when I fly back from South Sudan and I can’t wait.
But for now here is what it looks like. I’m VERY pleased and will be shipping out two copies to the winners of my Goodreads contest as soon as I can get home and autograph them.
The paper is a lovely cream color, and the nice touches such as the chapter headings, illustrations and formatting are courtesy of the lovely team at Streetlight Graphics.
