New Middle Grade Novel – ALWAYS, ABIGAIL – Coming Fall 2014
So excited to announce that I get to work with my wonderful editor, Aubrey Poole, at Sourcebooks/Jabberwocky on my next book.
Because Aubrey is my “Queen of Titles,” she came up with the amazing, absolutely perfect title – ALWAYS, ABIGAIL. The entire story is told in lists, letters, and writing assignments, in which a sixth-grader named Abigail uses her language arts class’s Friendly Letter Project to cope with the worst school year ever – and in the process turns it into the best year ever.

Fun Photos of Fellow Lucky 13s at IRA
It was great fun to walk around at IRA and see posters, ARCs, and books written by a few of my fellow Lucky 13s.
I’ve already had the pleasure of reading GONE FISHING by Tamera Will Wissinger. I found this great poster at the Houghton Mifflin Booth.
Another Houghton Mifflin title PARCHED by Melanie Crowder was proudly displayed - I even got an ARC of this one – can’t wait to read!
Jennifer Ann Mann’s editor, Caroline Abbey was there, so happy to hold up an ARC of SUNNY SWEET IS SO NOT SORRY.
And RUMP by Liesl Shurtliff published by Knopf is on my request list at the library. Can’t wait until it comes in!
I feel so lucky to be part of such a fantastic group of writers.

IRA Conference 2013 in San Antonio, TX
What a great time in TX! I had the pleasure of signing THIS JOURNAL BELONGS TO RATCHET at the Sourcebooks booth on Sunday morning.
It was thrilling to see so many teachers and librarians getting in line to have their copy of RATCHET signed. I enjoyed meeting all of them, and I only wish I would’ve had more time to talk to everyone. It was also lots of fun to hang out with the fantastic marketing team from Sourcebooks. Thanks to Beth, Tina, and Katie everything was super smooth!
They had lots of great things planned for those who stopped by the Sourcebooks booth.
I also enjoyed meeting fellow Sourcebooks author Geoff Herbach. He was there to sign copies of his newest book I’M WITH STUPID coming in May.
His book NOTHING SPECIAL made my flights to and from TX much more enjoyable!

Happy Book Birthday to RATCHET!
While I sleep tonight, my long time dream of becoming the author of a children’s book will come true. On April 2, 2013, This Journal Belongs to Ratchet will be welcomed into the world. Before going to sleep, my daughter said, “Tomorrow you’re going to be an author, Mom!”

Cover Reveal for SUNNY SWEET IS SO NOT SORRY by Jennifer Ann Mann
In my last post I talked about how one of the best benefits of being an author is getting to meet other authors. Jennifer Mann is another one of the wonderful authors I’ve gotten to know by being part of the Lucky 13s. Jen is not only a middle grade author like I am, but the two of us have teamed up as promotion partners, which means we are committed to helping each other promote our midddle grade debut novels. Jen’s book, published by Bloomsbury, doesn’t come out until October, so she has been waiting for her cover art. Well, her wait is finally over. Her cover has been revealed this week and what an awesome cover it is! Middle grade readers will certainly be drawn to this eye-catching, fun cover.
Congrats, Jen! Your ARC will come next, and I can’t wait to read it!
