No Cage for a Crow

I am tempted to call it a gutsy piece of fiction, except that, regardless of whether the events recounted ever actually happened, I get the disconcerting impression that the author intended a memoir rather than a novel.

“The tone of the voices from within told me clearly that I was no longer wanted in that place, and even if they could eventually find it in themselves to forgive me, nothing would ever be the same. The life I had known was over, no matter which way I decided to go; down, at least, gave me a chance at deciding for myself how things would be in the future.”

Gilt – a poem

As I await the final gilding of the leaves

in the crown of the oak, life rises up around me,

warm, in shades of amber. Fury of peace

and stillness of motion together encircle a frail humanity.

The darkness that falls now is gentle,

like a friend’s touch, or morning tea,

and quells the darkness behind me.

There is no cause for fear.

Tuesday Teaser #1

This year, I am embracing regularity, as I’ve never been particularly good about blogging on any kind of schedule. So my new goal is a post at least every week, and the Tuesday Teaser was born from that desire.

Every Tuesday, I’m going to post a teaser for one of my current works in progress. I invite all of my writer buddies to join in!

The rules:

Post a link, image, quote, or excerpt related to or taken from your current WIP.

State the name of the WIP.

Do NOT explain yourself! Resist the urge to wax poetic. This is a hint, not an outline.

I’ll get the ball rolling.

“With the benefit of hindsight, I am forced to admit that the howling heart of a winter storm might not have been the most well-considered moment to run away from home.”
