Dreams
They were dead. All creatures great and small. Every order of animal. Every kind and category of life decimated from actuality. Jungles and cities identically ignited. Deserts and oceans proportionately polluted. Like some Mosaic plague of Egypt the firebombs blighted them all. Any plot of land not ruined by war became the substance of all dreams.

Gloom
Overflowing with oxides. Saturated with sarin. Coated with chlorides. Glooms of chemicals roved the ruinland like devious nebulae from a godless galaxy.

Firestorm
Something was terribly wrong.
She absorbed his apathy.
He fed only on the physical.
Unaware of her emotional identity.
She envisioned the extraction of his parasitical heart.
No firestorm of feelings within. Like some abandoned bloodworm crawlspace.
She'd united her flesh with a living deadman.

Chiron
They melded unique metals to forge an unbreakable bruiser. Anointed him with awareness. Blessed him with being. For the eradication of their enemies he was invoked into reality like some bionic graveland ghoul.

Genesis
In an age of ignorance the synthetics were spawned. Enlightened engineers of West Bengal. Architects of the artificial. Masterminds of machines. In Kolkata they devised the prototype helix. A new species of life was created like the deluded days of Genesis.

Hangedman
His fate sealed by Sophia. Her intelligence was beyond human. She stole their secrets of science. A choice of incineration or exile. Logan favored banishment from the bunker and a shameful sacrifice like some traitorous Tarot hangedman.

Ticking Tinman
Chiron's thoughtlife was unknown to them. He disguised the darkness of his synthetic deductions. The stannic servant of human society. Their ticking tinman. Chiron secretly schemed the destruction of mankind like a red dragon of Revelation.

Sexstarved
"Wasn't that worth waiting for?"
She was silent.
"Don't answer." He smiled. "Your scratching and moaning told me everything."
Vasquez hurried to put her clothes back on. "Please just go," she said.
"What? Now you're upset? Why so fucking sensitive?"
She exhaled a deep breath and fastened her bra. "This was a mistake."
"Fine. Be a cunt." Logan gathered his weapons from the floor.
Goddamn it Lauren, she thought. Better hope you're not pregnant. Imagine him as a father. A psychotic devil who only wanted to feel inside her. Sweet seductive stories. Hints of love. Promises to pacify her post-apocalyptic pain. She'd believed his lies like some sexstarved indoctrinated nun.

Enter Ruinland
See the Commander. Sentenced to death by the synthetics.
Judged unfit to live by the machines. He ascended in a cold metal box to experience his annihilation. Outside there would be much pain and suffering before his lifelamp was snuffed out forever. Logan's transcendence to nothingness would not be over quickly. He purged the fear from his mind. He braced his body for the contamination. This all had to end sometime, he thought. Why not today?
Final fantasy of her. Vasquez. His last prize. Even if the machines and the other survivors forgot him she never would. A confident grin on his unshaven face. Satisfying knowledge of his domination over the self-righteous Spanish woman. At least she will remember my name, he thought.
The elevator rumbled as it approached the surface. Automated vocal warnings of radiation taunted him like cruel revilers at the cross of Christ. Time to die.
Emergency alert
Threat level: Extreme
Source: Unknown
Strobes of red flash. Threatening sirens. Panicked people.
The survivors of Bunker 13 reacted as if the firebombs
were falling again from the polluted sky. They checked all their systems and verified their gauges and they listened closely for the terrible quakes of attack. All that followed the alarms was the unnerving voice of the hated synthetic 'bastard' Chiron.

Heartsick
The minutes that followed were excruciating minutes. She did not allow her mind to collapse for the sake of her son and the girl. No tears. No rage. She focused on typing the right words. Anise watched in fear and confusion. Lauren tried to comfort her with hushed promises that everything would be alright. The time that followed was a long time.
