First Glimpse at the Toro Canyon Series

“I don’t even know your name.”
Facing her, he drew close enough that she could feel his warmth radiating onto her.
“No, you don’t. Yet here you are, alone in the dark with a stranger and far enough away from others so that if you were to scream out, no one would hear you. Do you always act so recklessly?”
The ominous tone the man’s voice had taken on and the pitch black of his eyes reflecting the moonlight set Brenna on edge, and she suddenly felt as if she was a deer caught in a hunter’s snare. When she shivered, he tugged her close by her upper arms.
“Are you afraid?”
“Yes,” she said on a sigh.
“Then why are you still here with me and not demanding to be taken back?”
She swallowed loudly and tried to find the words that usually came so easily for her. A story. A lie. Something. But nothing came for what seemed like forever. When his stance widened and it looked as if he would back away from her, an honest response spilled from her lips.
“Because I like being afraid.”
