Research for my next book
I’ve been attending my husband’s band practices the past few weeks. Rob is thrilled that after nearly ten years together I’m finally letting him teach me about music. I’ve also been reading bios of famous female drummers and percussionists, like Evelyn Glennie and Meg White.

What am I writing now? Here’s a hint…

Have I mentioned lately how I adore everything he said about writing?
…If the stories are made so real that people believe them the people reading them nearly always think the stories really happened to you. That is natural because while you were making them up you had to make them happen to the person who was telling them. If you do this successfully enough you make the person who is reading them believe that the things happened to him too. -Ernest Hemingway, unpublished manuscript from the Kennedy Library collection.

My new Favorite Quote Ever
“And to whom can I now confide all this but to my future readers, who will by virtue of scanning my words and not my face make of me their perplexing friend and not the ready fiend they would espy, if authors were truly on view in their own pages, scribbling in haste in the dark by the glow of cigarrette after ciggarette, each lit in turn by the last.” From When to Go into the Water by Lawrence Sutin

Well, today is the day…
It’s not an April Fool’s joke, today is the release of my novel! This morning I went to brunch with a childhood friend, and then we went by Barnes & Noble and pretended to need to ask the store clerk where we could find a copy of If He had Been with Me. It was just quietly sitting there on the shelf with my maiden name on it, looking surreal. Someone had already bought a copy. There’s not much to do now but sit back and hope more people buy it.
I recently discovered a blogger who wasn’t an official part of my tour who all on her own posted a really positive review of If He had Been with Me. Here’s a link to her blog, http://asoutherngirlsbookshelf.blogspot.com
Thanks again Monica!
