The Sibyl, by Cynthia D. Witherspoon

sybil

“Eva McRayne wanted a steady paycheck, not a television show. But when Elliot Lancaster hands her the opportunity to discredit his paranormal findings on camera, she finds it impossible to turn him down. Her life changes in more ways than one after she goes to New York to learn more about the theories she will be shooting down on television. Eva McRayne encounters a Sibyl desperate to be free of the shackles which bind her to Apollo.

Shackles she binds onto Eva – a disbeliever who learns the hard way just how real the paranormal can be.”

This week, I had the pleasure of reading The Sibyl, by Cynthia D. Witherspoon.

With an odd combination of haunted houses, greek gods, and tall, dark strangers, The Sibyl weaves an extremely original tale. By combining this unique premise with a loveable cast of characters, Witherspoon has created a very engaging story, one that I thoroughly enjoyed reading.

My only complaint is with the pacing – I would have preferred more haunted houses earlier on, and a little less of the tall, dark stranger – but these decisions left The Sibyl open for a sequel, one that I’m certainly hoping to see!

Cynthia’s work is available in the Kindle store – get your copy of the Sibyl now!

Alyssa Cooper:

A new review for The Motel Room!

“It’s a strange feeling, to be dead.”

So begins the tale of our Narrator, a ghost clinging desperately to the memory of life.

Since his death, the ghost has been trapped in a motel room, watching the comings and goings of his nightly guests. The strangers never stay more than a night or two, and they never seem to notice him – no more than he notices them. Wrapped in fading memories of the time he was alive, he drifts through time, waiting for the return of the one person he can still see clearly.

But as time stretches out before him, his frustration begins to build, boiling over into violent anger. When a young couple dares to rent his room for the night, igniting his rage, the ghost finally discovers the true power behind his ghostly form.

Author Interview – Alyssa Cooper

Alyssa Cooper:

In case anyone missed it!

Originally posted on Rachel Carrera, Novelist:

Recently, I posted a Call to Writers, asking my fellow author bloggers to allow me to interview them for guest-spots on my blog.  (If you are interested in participating, please contact me.)  I asked everyone thirty-five questions, some were basic, and others were multi-part inquiries, and I asked them to answer only what they wanted to or what was applicable. My friend and fellow-blogger, Alyssa Cooper, had some very captivating responses which I’m sure will enchant you, as well.  After you read her interview, please be sure to hop on over to her blog and follow her for a regular dose of her charm and wit.  And now, I turn the microphone over to Alyssa…

The Witches of Armour Hill on WattPad!

To prepare for the release of the first book in my Witches of Armour Hill series (and to celebrate the completion of the first draft), I will be serializing the entire unedited novel on WattPad, while my editors and I work to perfect the edition that will be released through Kindle (and eventually in paperback)!

What does this mean? The first draft of Switch will be FREE on WattPad for your enjoyment – but only until the release of the finished book! Two chapters are already available, and Chapter Three will be added on Monday. This is your first chance to meet new characters such as Margaret May Reis and Rhosyn Meyers, Amelia Valk and Adrianna Walsh, and I’m very proud to present them to the world.

Since joining WattPad, I’ve discovered a lot of great writers with a lot of interesting ideas, and I’m very excited to be able to share my work with this new community. If you’ve got an account, send me a message – I’d love to hear from you!

Boone’s Journey – So much more than just sci fi

This week I had the pleasure of reading Boone’s Journey, a short story by Kirstin Pulioff.

Boone’s Journey is an amazing short story centring around a strong, independent woman named Talia. Not your typical heroine, Talia is damaged and antisocial, an alcoholic and essentially an orphan, and I was left strangely sympathetic to her plight (even though I don’t think we’d be friends in real life).

810kFGbtPRL._SL1500_Although Boone’s Journey follows Talia’s latest space mission, it is the insight to her past that builds up the meat of the story. Through memories and flash backs, we learn of Talia’s childhood as well as her personal life, the life between her missions. These were my favourite parts of the story, and my only complaint is that they weren’t expanded upon even more – I would have loved to know even more about Talia’s parents, her training, and the man she meets on Amiliba.

With a touching and unexpected ending, this story is well worth the read, and I can’t wait to see more from this author! You can get your copy of Boone’s Journey for $0.99 on Amazon, or check out the rest of Kirstin’s catalogue!

The Witches of Armour Hill

The first draft of my next novel, the first installment in a series called The Witches of Armour Hill, is now complete!

2014-05-24 10.59.52Let the ruthless editing begin. I’ll be trying out a new process with this one; once the first rounds of edits are complete, I’ll be serializing the entire manuscript on my new Wattpad account. Once the story is ready for publication, this copy will be removed from WattPad, and will only be available as a Kindle exclusive (and eventually a paperback, too).

So, if you want early access to this great story of Canadian witch craft, keep an eye on this page for the WattPad release date!

Sunshine: The Author’s Edition is here!

cover-2-girl2

Sunshine: The Author’s Edition is now available! The five star story, originally published in 2012, rewritten as I always intended. With new cover, improved design, and never before seen content, this Kindle exclusive is still only $0.99!

“When ozone levels plummeted, the world changed. There’s no going back.

This is a world where sunshine can kill. Where there are heavy steel shutters on every window, and underground tunnels for safe passage. Where citizens nourish themselves with synthetic vitamins and rationed food, living a life in darkness, never seeing the sun.

This is the only world that eighteen-year-old Manda has ever known. As this strong, passionate girl struggles to bloom in a hard and unforgiving world, she finds a single comfort; Jordy, a man who delicately shows her how beautiful life can be. But then the letter comes.

Everything is changing, all over again.”

Get it now for $0.99, also available in the Kindle Unlimited library!
