Done... for the moment

The pre edits are done! I even sent it back to the Acquisitions Editor and she approved the changes. Of course there will be tons more. Usually the FIRST edits are the worst and since the pre edits were, in my opinion, brutal, I am not sure what to expect for the next round. But I am very happy I am through with these. I didn't end up putting anything back but I still have thoughts I may have to. We will see what a new fresh pair of eyes will see. But I have to admit she was exactly right. I will now take this new found knowledge and apply it with another story I am nearly ready to send in. When I do I will blog about that one too, give a blurb. It may be several days before Ladders is assigned to an editor so I will be working on "The One" which is the working title for this next story.

Ladders

So yesterday I was cursing the acquisitions editor's name as I was taking out a ton of stuff due to her "suggestions". Five thousand seven hundred and seventy extracted words later and I have to admit... I ramble. Today, after that major operation, I will see if the patient survived. I think some of what I ended up removing just might be vital organs, but so far I really haven't missed much of what has been removed. So today my hope is to get through the rest of it, insert back a few things and maybe be able to send this back tomorrow, Thursday at the latest. Then I will be assigned an editor. For the FIRST edits. These were just the PRE edits. Yeah. Crazy. :\

Ladders

The hardest part is having to shut my mouth (or in this case quit typing). I guess I over explain things. There is a reason for that, I want it to work. So often times I have read stories where things have not made sense and that has thrown me out of the story. But evidently I go in the exact opposite direction. LOL. So today I cheated. I went through and did all the easy corrections and left all the tough stuff. And this is just the pre-edits!

Ladders

Silver will be publishing my next book, working title "Ladders", so I am very excited. I will give little excerpts and comments as I go through the editing process. This is the part that can be so painful and I find myself avoiding it. So maybe blogging about it will help me get through it easier. So today is Saturday, June 15. I already opened the file and walked through the first page...that is as far as I could go before I ran into the first request of major change. Not that I am thinking it shouldn't change. I plan on trying to learn from this process like I have every other time I have gone through it. And I have never minded the challenge of not only accepting a major edit and making it work but actually like having that challenge. So I guess we will see. I have already been told I need to "tighten up" a lot of the narrative. Yikes. "a lot". So, I will update this site tomorrow when I will really dive in.
