Into their final summer before graduating college, three childhood friends, Alex Makapulo, Lori Hanson, and Andy Taylor had each expected an uncomplicated transition to adulthood.
Alex had recently professed her love for Christ and is toying with the idea of leaving the Catholic Church and becoming a member of her best friend, Jack Page’s church. Jack wonders what is keeping Alex from being baptized and fully accepting a new life with Christ. Alex wonders the same thing and believes that she needs to be 100 % in her conviction before fully committing to a new Christian life. Like everyone she has doubts and wants to make sure she’s doing the right thing in her spiritual walk. Her new found beliefs disconnects her from her roommates and while they feel she is intentionally separating herself from them, to Alex, she is trying to figure out what is Christian and what isn’t.
For Lori’s twenty-second birthday, her grandfather Pete Hanson presented her with a summer vacation to England. While looking up various tourist spots, she meets and befriends Colin Watson, a British musician, online who then suggest they meet when she lands in London. They hit it off instantly but Pete is angry and believes that she only used him as a means to meet Colin. When he finds out that Lori met Colin online, he forbids Lori from seeing Colin entirely. Lori, who has fallen in love with Colin, is heartbroken. Pete threatens to leave England with Lori’s passport. Colin and Lori try to arrange meetups where they can see each other but Pete catches on. Lori takes this as a sign that it wasn’t meant to be. She unhappily finishes her trip with Pete and goes home vowing not to forgive her grandfather.
Andy reconnects with her old crush, Miles Webber and decides she wants a more meaningful relationship with him. She tells Alex about the situation and Alex truthfully tells Andy that Miles only wanted her for sex. This angers Andy and she walks out of the apartment. Andy ends up walking to the coffeehouse and comes up with an idea to throw a surprise birthday party for Alex. She believes that if Alex and Jack were to hook up, the focus would shift from Miles and her. Andy spikes all the drinks for Alex’s party and leaves her friend while she goes in search of Miles. He shows up at the bar with another girl. In an effort to soothe her wounded ego, she goes home with someone else. When she wakes up the next day, she realizes she’s in bed with Alex’s young boss from the coffeehouse, David Roberts, Jr. They return home from their trip with Alex asking Jack to baptize her. Andy confronts David and Lori both forgives and asks for forgiveness from Pete.

Brand New Release: A Virtuous Ruby by Piper Huguley

Award-Winning author, Piper Huguley, has found her niche in Christian fiction. I am so honored to have her on my blog today.

About the Book1915 – Winslow, Georgia thought shame would keep her from speaking out against lynching–they were wrong.   Town troublemaker Ruby Bledsoe resolves never be quiet, loving her baby, no matter how he had come into the world.  However, when she seeks help for her sick son, she doesn’t anticipate meeting a handsome stranger who offers Ruby a way to help her son and a brand new life.

Dr. Adam Morson had always felt shame as a mixed-race child–shame enough to masquerade as something that he wasn’t.  However, something powerful draws him to protect the beautiful and fiery activist who shows him how to be true to himself.  Some unknown force unknown compels him to offer Ruby a job in his practice up north and Ruby has to decide if she should stay and fight for the soul of her hometown, or if she should seek her own happiness with the handsome stranger.

Ruby arranged her own features into calm, not reflecting the fear on her sister’s face. People spilled out of the small buildings and stood around on the wooden sidewalks. No one seemed to know what to do. With a quick glance, she could see Dr. Morgan, the white doctor, was not in his office next to the general store.“I’m going to go to see if I can help.” She started toward the mill.“What can you do? You just help with baby birthing.” Mags shouted afterher.“I’ve seen blood before.” She put more certainty in her voice than was in her heart as she yelled over her shoulder. “I can help. You stay here.”No need to reinforce the warning with Mags. She did not like blood and she never moved. The whistle of the afternoon train sounded as Ruby rushed on to the mill. Normally, the arrival of the train was something to note in little Winslow, but the screams of a man coming from the edges of the mill yard, distracted her. Four men, including Mags’s suitor Travis, carried out another Negro man. Jacob.Blood trickled from his hand. Thank God, Travis wasn’t the injured one.“What happened?” She asked him.Travis showed no surprise at her question. Apparently a midwife, even a disgraced one, was better than nothing. Even one who hadn’t left her house in a long time. They were clearly going to try to take this man to Dr. Morgan, but it didn’t mean he would treat him.“Hand got caught in the machine.”She swallowed. The flesh had been cut deeply across his palm, but luckily, all of his fingers were there. Moving. Underneath his dark brown skin, the man had colored to an unhealthy gray. “Set him down on the sidewalk.”The men did as she directed and almost immediately, Jacob’s co-workers stepped away from him in fright. “No Dr. Morgan?” He managed to grit out in pain.“He’s not there. You’ll have to do with me, I’m afraid.” She tried to ignore the alarm on his face. Jacob had a family of four young girls and a baby boy. She struggled to keep her hands steady. She prayed for guidance.Inhaling the familiar metal-rich tang of blood, Ruby touched the stripped-apart flesh. “Does anyone have a clean cloth?”The men stared. They had just come from the machines and they were dirty. One by one, they peeled away. All of the onlookers who had been there moments before had also vanished. “I go find something, Ruby,” Travis said, and he left Jacob to her, rushing off.No time to lose. Looking quickly from side to side, she reached up under her white dress and, with a sharp quick tug, pulled at her slip and ripped way some of the white cotton. Tearing the slip into strips, she startled.A man had pushed her to the side and began to probe at Jacob’s hand.“What are you doing?” An unfamiliar deep male voice spoke sharply to her and with the push to the side, red scuffs marred her best high-topped shoes.Back before her shame, she would have been completely humiliated in front of a strange man. Now, pushed aside, she stopped. The man had large, beautiful grey eyes edged with long, black fringe lashes, which would have looked female if his cream-colored features were not so chiseled.“I’m trying to fix his hand.”She fixed him with a hard glance, and spoke again, demanding, “Who areyou?”His angular, handsome face reflected scorn and disapproval. Then, she immediately regretted her quick words. Was this man white or a Negro? His color sure gave her pause. Even now, as she took her glance away fromhis disapproving gaze and to his lips, there was a hint of fullness to them. She blew out a sigh of relief. She had not been wrong. He was a Negro, just as light as her. They were the same.“Don’t use those dirty bandages on his hand. What’s wrong with you?” The man sat next to Jacob and probed Jacob’s hand with sure fingers. Jacob calmed. Her pride prickled and she clenched her teeth at the stranger yelling at her now. Everyone was after her today.“And who are you?” Ruby repeated the question. Her mother always told her she was too forward, but she couldn’t help it.“I’m a doctor.”“Praise God,” Jacob said with clear relief. “See Ruby. This man here a doctor. He can fix me up good.”“How do we know he’s a doctor?” Ruby pursed her lips together and applied pressure to keep them shut.“Fetch my bag over there on the train platform, there are sanitary bandages in it. Hurry.”Who was he to tell her what to do? Directing her! Ruby tossed him a quick look of distain, but she raced back on fast feet. Jacob’s situation required speed, even if this strange man treated him. When he got the bag, as if he were a magic man, he began to take out bandages and other things from it.He handed her a needle and a spool of thread. “Please thread this. Try not to get it dirty.”The nerve! She knew how to thread a needle! Well, enough she supposed. Sometimes after a delivery, a woman needed to be sewn up some, but sewing wasn’t her strong point. Did this man know about her poor sewing skills just by looking at her? Maybe he did, just as she knew his secret by looking at him.Jacob’s voice was too polite even as he enthused. No, he didn’t suspect the man was as much Negro as them. “Wait ’til May hear about this. God was sure looking out. I got some real doctoring.”“I’m glad for you.” Ruby handed the threaded needle to the doctor. “This sewing up part can’t be no fun now. Calm down, Jacob.”“It’s all right. Long as my hand can get fixed.”“It will take some time.” The doctor splashed some smelly stuff on thegash. Jacob jumped but the doctor held him firm. He applied neat stitches to the gash in Jacob’s hand, which had stopped bleeding, “But it will be as good as new in a few weeks time. You will need to keep it clean so infection does not set in.” “Infection?” Ruby asked. What did I just say? She knew what infection was. This stranger moved her and made her act like she knew nothing.

About Mama's BoyWhen her son is in trouble, a heartbroken mother finds the courage and faith to save him, in ReShonda Tate Billingsley’s powerful family drama—a novel as timely as today’s headlines. The breaking TV news rocks Jasper, Texas, to the core: a white police officer is fatally shot in a scuffle with three black youths—and a cellphone video captures Jamal Jones, the sixteen-year-old son of esteemed Reverend Elton Jones, escalating the tragic encounter. Now, as the national spotlight shines on a town already rife with racial tension, Jamal is a murder suspect on the run. And all of Jasper—even the Reverend’s congregation—rushes to judge the boy they thought they knew. But Gloria Jones knows her son best, and she races to find Jamal before the law does—to the outrage of her workaholic husband. Once she finds him, she has to decide whether to turn him in or help him run. With ruthless prosecutor and Houston mayoral candidate Kay Christensen hungering to put another young thug behind bars, Gloria will face her biggest battle yet. And when long-hidden secrets and shocking lies come to light, throwing Jamal’s case and his destiny into a tailspin, all Gloria can do is pray that the truth—and a mother’s unconditional love—will be enough to redeem the mistakes of the past and ultimately, save her son.
ExcerptWhat it meant to have the Grim Reaper sneak up on you, wrap his claws around your heart, and squeeze. That’s what Gloria Jones felt right now. Her heart tightened, her breath slowed, and Gloria wondered how it was that she hadn’t passed out. All because of the story that she’d just seen on the news. “Again, we want to warn you that this video is disturbing,” the red-haired female anchor from Channel 12 News said. “Police have released this footage in hopes that someone can identify the suspect or the other two boys in the video.” The video that had initially stopped Gloria in her tracks during the news introduction began playing again. “Put the phone down!” a police officer in the video yelled. “I have a right to film,” the young boy replied as he turned the camera on himself. It was dark and the picture was grainy, but he was clearly recognizable. And even if he wasn’t, the tiny cross tattoo on his neck was a dead giveaway. “You see how they treat us?” he continued. “If you’re young and black in America, you’re guilty until proven innocent!”

Welcome Dawn Marie Pitts! A Michelle Lindo-Rice Reader

I'd like to welcome another Michelle Lindo-Rice Reader, Dawn Marie Pitts to my blog. She is a loyal supporter and I'm blessed to feauture her today.
Dawn Marie Pitts was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. She and ger husband, Richard, moved to the Dallas suburb of Irving, TX in 2012. Dawn is an avid reader whose favorite genre is Christian Fiction. Known to family and friends as the "cake lady", Dawn takes pride in carrying on her mother's tradition of putting a little love in her cakes.

On the Right Path SeriesA Father for my HeartGina Ward grew up not knowing who her father was and believed he didn't care about her. Circumstances forced her husband to locate Gina's father and in turn forced her to face the man she had no desire to meet. She resented him for abandoning her but the truth was he never knew about her. After some time of healing, Gina was able to form a long awaited relationship with her father. Wouldn't it be nice if life imitated art and we could have a happily ever after like Gina?
I can remember a time when I wanted to know who my father was but didn't ask until I was 20 years old. Being raised and adopted by my maternal grandparents I guess I didn't really see a need to know. I've always known who my mother was just not my father. Curiosity got the best of me and I finally asked. Little did I know one of my former coworkers knew my father and even went to school with him. He asked her if she knew how to get in touch with me. When we met I didn't really know what to do or say but I tried to forge a relationship with him. That didn't go so well. It was one sided. I was the one trying when really he should have been the one making the effort. Once I realized that I backed off and didn't see him again for about 17 years.
Once again, I tried to forge a relationship with my father. This time was worse as he proved over and over he didn't care about breaking my heart. I've finally come to realize that a healthy relationship with this man is just not possible. So for my well being I decided to move on with my life. Sure the Christian in me wondered if I was doing the right thing given the commandment to "honor thy father and mother". I've always struggled with that because neither of my birth parents were there for me. I saw my father recently after 3 years and am now at peace with my decision. I understand God gave me a mother and father that loved me, cared for me, and nourished me when he put me with my grandparents. That's who I honor.
Gina's story had an impact on me that I didn't expect. Gina was fortunate to build a strong, healthy relationship with her father. I wish my outcome could have been as wonderful as hers. What I can say is it made me understand how God's will works in my life. The best thing that came out of meeting my father is meeting my 5 sisters, 1 brother and 21 nieces and nephews. I love them and they love me. God truly turned things around for my good.

A MUST READ RELEASE!! Stand Your Ground by Victoria Christopher Murray

STAND YOUR GROUND
From the #1 Essence bestselling and award-winning author Victoria Christopher Murray comes a new novel about three women forced to grapple with their faith and their belief in the justice system when they become involved in a high-stakes murder trial.
Janice Johnson is living every mother’s worst nightmare. Her sixteen-year-old son was murdered in the parking lot of a convenience store and the shooter hasn’t been arrested. Janice and her husband want justice for their son, but disagree about whether to trust the police investigation—or take matters into their own hands.
Shelly Vance cannot believe the nightmare that has become her life. Her husband is facing murder charges for shooting a sixteen-year-old who he says attacked him in a parking lot. This tragedy is only magnified by the racial divide it has created, and Shelly feels herself being judged by everyone from her employer to her friends. She’s vowed to stand by her husband no matter what, but how can she keep quiet when she’s keeping a secret that could blow the whole case wide open?
Alax Wilson would rather be anywhere else but on the jury of this highly charged case. Not only is she missing work—which she can’t really afford to do—but she’s been chosen as the jury’s foreman, which means she has to take her role seriously if there is any hope of reaching a verdict.
Faced with the tragic death of a teenager and a dramatic trial that has turned into media frenzy, Janice, Shelly, and Alax are forced to face their own prejudices and those of the world around them. But will the truth come to light?

Welcome, Queenie! A Michelle Lindo-Rice Reader

Welcome Queenie!  Hi, I am Queenie and I am addicted to books. I love to read, it is my passion. I am a single mom of two boys, full time educator, and an avid book reader. My mother, siblings, and I used to walk to the library every other Saturday morning and borrow books. My mom made us write reports on all our books.  I got my first library card when I was 6 years old.  I only read Christian fiction now.  I try to instill reading to my four year old son and high school students.  When I go to my local bookstore Barnes and Noble, I am like a kid in a candy store.

Michelle Lindo-Rice is a great storyteller.  I have read all but two if her books.  All her books I have read grabs my attention from the beginning to the end.  In her books, she tackles current issues and situations that deal with real life in a Christian perspective.  She never disappoints.  I like how she speaks from her heart and it touches mines when she writes.  When I read her books, I feel like the characters are real and I can relate to them in some way or another.

The On The Right Path series talks about different level of love, God’s love, marriage, and family love.  This series is about humanity, repentance, and forgiveness.  Also it is packed with twists, turns, and drama. You will not be disappointed when you read any of her books.

Michelle Lindo-Rice you rock!

Thank you so much, Queenie for stopping by! The three books in the On the Right Path series are: Walk A Straight Line; My Steps Are Ordered and The Fall Of The Prodigal.

Her beauty salon is prospering, and she has begun rebuilding her team, after seeds of discord were sowed and bonds were broken. Everything is beginning to look up, or so she thinks. When a scandal is leaked to the media, Olivia’s dream of expanding is in jeopardy. She must step up and play hard ball in a game with which she’s unfamiliar.Nikki had dreams of building a beautiful family with a loving husband. But after looking at the shattered pieces of her broken life, she is losing hope and desires more. She wants more than the shame of barrenness, and more than physical abuse from his drinking binges. One phone call gives her courage to escape the deadly clutches of her husband. Yet, when she finds strength in another’s arms she finds herself spinning more lies. Nikki’s web of deceit is going to cost all those who are close and it could just cost her, her life. When deception is the name of the game, who all will have to share the pain?
EXCERPT 1:The pain was easing up somewhat as Nikki and Wesley entered the breezeway at his apartments. Unlocking the door, his eyes softened when he looked at her face once again. She saw a mixture of anger and compassion nestled there. “What?” she asked when he continued to stare at her longer than what she deemed comfortable.“Nothing,” he said, shaking his head. Wesley led her into a galley kitchen and pulled a sandwich bag from one of the cabinets, filled it with ice, and then wrapped it in a paper towel before applying it to her face. She was in awe at the tenderness with which this man handled her. Every time he touched or said a word to her, it was with such protection, like she had never known. This was a side of Wesley that she had not seen in the five years of knowing him.“Come on,” he said, grabbing her by her free hand and leading her to the back of the apartment. She looked around at his bedroom; not at all what she would have expected for a single man. Decorated in oranges, greens, browns, and yellows, it had a Caribbean look and feel to it. The room was small, but neat and exhibited a nice décor. The full-sized bed sat directly opposite the black-framed, chestnut-colored dresser. To the right of his bed was a small nightstand in the same black framing and chestnut top as the bed and the dresser. To the left of his bed was a double-paned window, with orange, brown, and green curtains blocking out the midday sun. He walked over to the window and opened the curtains halfway and then opened the blinds to allow the sun to stream through.“I’ll be right back.”“Where are you going?” she asked with a look of apprehension in her eyes. His eyebrows lifted slightly. “Just to the bathroom, Nikki. I’ll be back.” Exhaling a deep breath, she realized that a new fear had come over her. In all the altercations she had endured with Carlos, he had never left her for dead. Why did he leave like that? What if the neighbors didn’t come? I could’ve died in that bathroom, she thought. She tried to fight back the tears, but they betrayed her. Sucking in her sobs, she stood and walked to his dresser and began looking at his pictures, anything that would take her mind off her problems. There were a couple of him and his father at various stages of his life, a few of some children, and one of a lady she assumed to be his mother. She stood up and walked to the bed, staring at the amazing likeness he had to this woman.“That’s my mom.”She jumped at the sound of his voice; she hadn’t heard him return to the bedroom.“Oh, I didn’t hear you come up. Are you always so quiet?” she asked as he came and stood beside her. She still had not looked at him, wishing she could make the tears disappear from her eyes and face.“No. Are you always so scary?” he teased. He regretted the words almost the moment he said them. Her body tensed up, and she looked down. Her fear had come as a result of the relationship she was in. She was always tense and on edge, because she never knew what fuse Carlos was about to blow.“Hey, it’s okay. I’m sorry. Here, look at me,” he said, turning her face up towards him. “Why are you crying?” he asked as he wiped her tears away with his fingers.“I’m sorry. I just…I don’t know.” She couldn’t explain if she wanted to. No one would understand her confusion or pain. She could forgive Carlos if he just had not left her. Didn’t he love her? Didn’t he want to work things out? Maybe he didn’t love her, after all. If he did, he would not have left her there like that.“Don’t be sorry. You haven’t done anything wrong. I have the feeling you have spent many years apologizing,” Wesley stated. He lovingly caressed the bruise that had formed on the right side of her face.“Too beautiful,” Wesley said, being drawn into the power of her presence in his bedroom.“Huh?”“You. You’re too beautiful for this. I don’t want you to be scared every time people come near you. Relax, okay? Just be…I promise I won’t ever do nothing to hurt you,” he said as he drew her nearer to him. Looking down into her big, dark brown eyes, he felt himself getting lost. Nikki didn’t know what she was feeling or what was happening between the two of them. And she couldn’t contain herself as he pressed his full firm lips against her soft, lush ones. As their foreheads touched, he continued to gently apply pressure to her lips, asking for permission to enter in.

Welcome Sherell Burns! A Michelle Lindo-Rice Reader

As an author, you never know how your book impact others. I thought it would be great to have some of my readers discuss how they feel about my books.

Meet Sherell Burns!
My name is Sherell Burns. I have been an avid reader since elementary school. Christian fiction is one of my favorite genres. I read an average of 20 books a month. My life consists of being a wife, a mother of two, and working full-time. In my free time I offer beta reading services to authors. My collection of books is ridiculous. I have over 300 books on my bookshelf and another 300+ on my kindle. For most women purses and shoes are their weakness. For me it's books.

About a year and a half ago I read my first book by Michelle Lindo-Rice, "Walk A Straight Line". Since then I have read several of her books.

The Able to Love series is by far my favorite. Each book highlights a person with a disability and still finding love. The series allows you to see how a person can love someone for what is truly inside. Rhonda McKnight featured Michelle last year during a spotlight discussion where she presented Book 1 "Color Blind". I immediately downloaded the book. My husband and I both have disabilities that aren't visible so this series really hit home. When you have someone that loves you despite your flaws and has been there through your worst then that's true love. This series shows the perfect imperfect love.

When an author has you sneaking to read at work and anticipating the release of their next book then they have done their job. Reading Michelle's books allows you to come away with a feeling of fulfillment. I'm excited for her next project.

If you haven't read any of Michelle's books The Able to Love Series is a great place to start.
