Review: Locked in Temptation

Locked in Temptation Locked in Temptation by Brenda Jackson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I read this in two days and it took that long because I had to work. The third book in the Protector series was sensual and suspenseful. I really enjoyed reading the love story between Joy and Stonewall develop and watching as their characters grew into love. Their chemistry was off-the-charts. This was my favorite of the three although the other two were really good as well. Locked in Temptation tied up a lot of loose ends while having a strong and original storyline of its own.
Here are some of my favorite lines:
"Nothing stirs my blood more than a confident woman. A woman who knows how to take care of business and doesn't mind doing so."
"Any man who would plot someone else's downfall, especially a woman's, didn't deserve to be called a man."

Review: Lies She Told

Lies She Told Lies She Told by Cate Holahan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

First of all, I love the cover and title. It took me a little while to get used to the toggling between Liza and Beth and I had to concentrate so that I didn't lose focus on who I was reading about. Overall, I enjoyed this suspenseful tale of a formerly successful author trying to write her next bestseller. But the lines of fiction and reality become seriously blurred. The middle of the story and build-up had me glued although I found the ending a little weak. I would read more from this author. 3.5 stars.
I received this galley in exchange for a honest review.

Review: The Party

The Party The Party by Robyn Harding
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A birthday party with a teenager and her friends. What could go wrong? Apparently more than Hannah's parents bargained for. Jeff and Kim appeared to be the happy couple until the party. Then things fall apart and escalate quickly. The situation of teens at a party was realistic but then the unfolding events and repercussions went to the extreme in some cases. I enjoyed the read but I didn't love it. I don't know who the heroine was in the story.... I would definitely read more from this author.. 3.5 stars.

I loved this second chance read with Tristan and Sydney. This was a hot love affair. I definitely enjoyed and will be reading the first two book in the Billionaire Builders series.

Review: Once a Duchess

Once a Duchess Once a Duchess by Elizabeth Boyce
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I enjoyed Marshall's and Isabelle's story. Love and passion trumps everything. I didn't like that Marshall jumped to conclusions but a lie can be dangerous and damaging. It made me wonder how much he truly loved her but he redeemed himself.

Review: The Bad Luck Bride

The Bad Luck Bride The Bad Luck Bride by Janna MacGregor
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The title, cover and synopsis had me intrigued. I love flawed characters and intense storylines but this was an okay read for me. I felt that at times both Claire and Alex's actions and decisions took away from the characters that the author built. But I kept reading. I understand the need for conflict in a story but it didn't gel at times and I feel some of the pivotal reveals/scenes should have been handled by the main characters.. Overall this was a decent debut and I feel the author is one to watch.
Thank you St. Martin's Press and Netgalley!

Review: The Breakdown

The Breakdown The Breakdown by B.A. Paris
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed The Breakdown. As I read through Cass Alexander's story, I was impressed with how well B.A.Paris wrote what we would call 'crazy' but for many is a sad reality of mental illness. There was a point where I felt it dragged and I was tired of the same plot line but I persisted. And... I'm so glad I did! I enjoyed the reveal. I enjoyed the fallout. A really good psychological thriller that had my mouth dropping and finally chuckling. Very good ending. Worth the patience through the buildup. Thank you, Netgalley!

Review: Don't Wake Up

Don't Wake Up Don't Wake Up by Liz Lawler
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this debut thriller!
Imagine enduring a horrible ordeal and no one believes you. Dr. Alex Taylor's struggle had me finishing this book in a day. The author did a good job building the suspense toward the conclusion. I kept rooting for her. I get why her tale was unbelievable but no one, not even her friends, believed her. That was maddening and I don't know how Alex held it together. A lot of twisty good turns. But, the detectives behaved like they were rookies at times and one was definitely unprofessional in her motives.
I would recommend to others. Thank you Netgalley for this advance copy in exchange for a honest review.

Review: You Will Pay

You Will Pay You Will Pay by Lisa Jackson
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

With a title like, You Will Pay, a cover like that and Lisa Jackson as the author, I was ready for a really good thriller. A story reminiscent of I Know What You Did Last Summer or something. There were a lot of characters and storylines that had me intrigued, especially with the build-up. But, the reveals and character actions toward the end didn't add up. I didn't get their motivations for revenge or even for secrets and the "You will pay" fizzled. I like a good soap-opera read but one word ruined it: Motive.
Thank you Netgalley for the advance copy in exchange for a honest review.

Review: White Fur

White Fur White Fur by Jardine Libaire
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I see elements of strong writing and story telling. Lyrical at times. I enjoyed the concept and found aspects of Elle's story refreshing but I am not sure how many would give up a fortune just like that. 75% way in I lost momentum though I finished. I think it was when it became choppy and so many characters weaving through. I am grateful for the free copy but I struggled to get through.
