A super-hot #MostWantedMonday excerpt from Wanted by J. Kenner
Welcome to another #MostWantedMonday excerpt as we countdown to the January 7 release of Wanted by J. Kenner, book one in the Most Wanted series of erotic romances that wilI be followed by Heated in May and Ignited in September!
I hope you enjoy this week’s snippet!
“This isn’t happening, Angie,” he said, blowing away my sense of victory like so much dandelion fluff.
“You’re wrong,” I said.
“I’m very rarely wrong.”
“You’re smug, too. I like that in a man.” I shifted forward so that my lips brushed his ear as I spoke. “I just want to fuck,” I said, and felt my lips curve into a smile as his cock stiffened in response to my raw—but very honest—words. “I’m not asking for a wedding ring. I’m not asking for forever. I’m not asking for any commitment at all. Hell, I’m not even asking for a date. I only want this,” I said as I stroked him. “I only want to finish what we started.”
“It’s not a good idea,” he said, and I heard the tight note of control in his voice.
“I think it’s one of the best ideas I’ve ever had,” I murmured. “What was it you said when you ran out of my condo? About how you made a promise to my Uncle? You’re so damn worried about keeping your promises. Well, you know what, Evan? You made one to me, too. Maybe not in words, but …” I trailed off, letting my body language finish that sentence as I shifted on his lap, feeling wild. Feeling reckless. He was right—we shouldn’t. And yet how could I stop when this was what I’d wanted for so damn long?
I brushed my lips over his. I felt powerful, certain victory was near, and I didn’t intend to relinquish an inch.
I pulled back, my eyes locked on his. “I want what you promised me.”
“Dammit, Angie…”
“You say you’re a bad bet?” I pressed, determined to cut off all protests. “I don’t care. Not everyone goes to Vegas to win. Sometimes they just go to have fun.”
“I like to win.” His rough voice sent shivers over me.
“Then I’m your prize. No,” I said, pressing my finger to his lips before he could say another word. “I want to go wild with you, Evan. I want to fly with you. One time. Can’t we both take the risk one time?”
“It’s reckless,” he said, as his hand slid up my back to cup my neck.
“Maybe.”
“You’ll regret it,” he murmured as his other hand stroked my exposed thigh.
My breath was ragged. “I won’t.”
“It won’t be gentle. If I let go, I’m not going to hold back.”
“I’m not asking you to.” Triumph swelled through me as I swallowed. My breasts were painfully tight and my sex throbbed, demanding everything he was promising. “Don’t you get it? I want it all. I want to fly.”

There’s nothing like a Cowboy! Jodi Linton tells us why Cowboys are special
Please welcome Jodi Linton to the blog!
“Courage is being scared to death, and still saddling up anyways”-John Wayne
This is such good advice, and not just for cowboys. It applies to the ups and downs of being a writer. Tired minds, sore fingers won’t stop a writer. We put our chins up and we venture down a long, twisted road in order to meet the character that will ignite a fire.
Two years ago I was lucky enough to find my muse in Laney Briggs—a smart-mouth Texas deputy who can duke it out with the big boys while tangling one sexy good-timing Texas Ranger around her finger. I was saddled up, nose-deep at my laptop, listening to Miranda Lambert’s “Gunpowder and Lead” when Laney popped into my head. I wanted a heroine that women could relate too, but I also wanted her to kick ass.
Welcome to Pistol Rock, Texas where everyone knows the one rule of thumb, secrets only last about as long as the sporadic west Texas rain showers.
Laney Briggs has a pretty sweet job as a deputy in her sleepy hometown of Pistol Rock, Texas. Everything’s fine and dandy until her ex, Texas Ranger Gunner Wilson, decides to stick his boots in Pistol Rock’s first murder case. The troublesome cowboy’s rugged good looks and T-shirt straining muscles have always left Laney in hot water. As the body count starts to rise in her small town, Laney is forced to ask the lethal bad boy for help.
Like Laney, I grew up in a small Texas town. I married a small town boy who occasionally is known to strut a pair of cowboys boots while hitting the open road with the other love of his life—his Jeep. Like I said, there’s nothing like a cowboy!
I will be releasing with Ignite an Entangled Imprint in March 2014.

Sylvia McDaniel on Why Love Isn’t Only For The Young (plus a giveaway!)
Please Welcome Sylvia McDaniel to the blog!
I’m in the final editing stages of my new Christmas novella. This one is a little different. I went back to my best-selling western series, The Burnett Brides that I had written years ago. The series set in the old west is about a mother who has three very stubborn sons who refuse to consider marriage. Eugenia wants grandchildren, and her sons aren’t interested in settling down. So she pulls some tricks and by the time the third son is married, the children decide to return the favor of finding their mother true love. I never wrote that book until now.
Eugenia Burnett (be careful what names you choose in books because they stay around a long time) has sworn never to remarry. She doesn’t need a husband or want one. She’s a free spirit doing what she pleases and no one is going to boss her around. Yet she’s not given up her matchmaking ways either. Now she’s moved onto the people she knows, and she’s putting widows and widowers together. Until one widower, Wyatt Jones (think John Wayne meets Maureen O’Hara) lets her know in front of a crowded restaurant that he’s not interested in any of the women she keeps sending him except her. He wants to marry her and she says no.
As a writer, I get tired of writing virgins and women sneaking around to have sex. There’s nothing wrong with writing young heroines, but I want to explore other times in life. We’re not young forever and what happens when people find love at a different age. As a reader I long for older heroines who find love a second time. We don’t stop having sex at thirty-nine.
Our population is aging. The baby boomers are retiring more and more each year. Don’t you think they’ll want to read older heroines? No, they probably can’t be kick-ass, though that would be a fun challenge to write, but why can’t they fall in love again? Middle-aged heroines who give love a second chance.
So this year, I’m putting out a Christmas novella that has Eugenia’s story. I’m hoping that enough baby boomers will enjoy reading her story and ask for more older heroines who find love. I’m also hoping that readers who loved this series, will enjoy seeing Eugenia find love and her sons get their revenge. The title is The Christmas Bride.
Would you read a book about a middle-aged heroine finding love again? I hope so. Leave a comment and a chance for a free copy of The Christmas Bride released November 5.
You can connect with Sylvia on her website, blog, at Facebook, and on Twitter!

Lyndi Lamont on Our Continuing Fascination with Pirates
Please welcome Lyndi Lamont to the blog!
Pirate Rules
What accounts for our fascination with pirates?
I’m talking about the 16th & 17th century variety. Is it the clothing? Knee boots and tight breeches and the white shirts with billowing sleeves. Or is the swagger of a man with a sword in his belt and an earring dangling from one ear? Or is the freedom of the open seas and not having to bow to any laws?
There are many myths and misconceptions about pirates, and one is that there were no rules. While it’s true that pirates were outlaws who flaunted the laws of many different nations, pirate culture had its own set of rules and a form of crude democracy. The pirate captain was elected by the crew and could be replaced at any time, except during battle. Ships sometimes drew up articles, a code of conduct by which the crew agreed to abide. The articles addressed things like how spoils were divided, compensation for injured men, and punishment for fractions of the rules.
Punishment was swift and harsh. Striking another crewman or lighting a pipe of candle in the hold might earn a pirate “Moses’s law”, 40 Stripes lacking one, or thirty-nine lashes of the whip. The worst punishments were reserved for desertion, theft and keeping secrets from the rest of the crew. These brought a sentence of death or marooning, which was a delayed death. Being marooned meant being left on a sandy island with a bit of food and water, and a loaded pistol so he could commit suicide. The islands were often little more than a sandbar at low tide. The marooning of Alexander Selkirk inspired Daniel Defoe to write Robinson Crusoe.
Captured prizes were divided among the members of the crew equally, except for the captain, and other designated crewmen, usually including the quartermaster, the sailing master, the boatswain and gunner.
Here are the articles used by the pirate captain John Phillips and his crew from 1724:
#1. Every Man shall obey civil Command; the Captain shall have one full Share and a half in all Prizes; the Master, Carpenter, Boatswain and Gunner shall have one Share and a quarter.
#2. If any Man shall offer to run away, or keep any Secret from the Company, he shall be marroon’d with one Bottle of Powder, one Bottle of Water, one small Arm, and Shot.
#3. If any Man shall steal any Thing in the Company, or game, to the Value of a Piece of Eight, he shall be Marroon’d or Shot.
#4. If at any Time we should meet another Marrooner (that is, Pyrate,) that Man shall sign his Articles without the consent of our Company, shall suffer such Punishment as the Captain and Company shall think fit.
#5. That Man that shall strike another while these Articles are in force, shall receive Moses’s Law (that is 40 Stripes lacking one) on the bare Back.
#6. That Man that shall snap his Arms, or smoak Tobacco in the Hold, without a cap to his Pipe, or carry a Candle lighted without a Lanthorn, shall suffer the same Punishment as in the former Article.
#7. That Man that shall not keep his Arms clean, fit for an Engagement, or neglect his Business, shall be cut off from his Share, and suffer such other Punishment as the Captain and the Company shall think fit.
#8. If any Man shall lose a Joint in time of an Engagement, shall have 400 Pieces of Eight; if a limb, 800.
#9. If at any time you meet with a prudent Woman, that Man that offers to meddle with her, without her Consent, shall suffer present Death.
Many of these pirate rules played a part in the plot of my steamy pirate romance, Marooned, and were loads of fun to research. You can read more here.
My thanks to Julie Kenner for hosting me today. So, what do you think accounts for the fascination with pirates of the old-fashioned, swashbuckling variety?
Marooned by Lyndi Lamont (Steamy Pirate Romance)
Heather Parnell is traveling from England to her home in Jamaica with her new husband, Roger, a man she detests. She performs a banishing spell with unintended consequences. When their ship is attacked by pirates, Roger is killed. Heather, disguised as a boy, joins the pirate crew.
Pirate captain Adam Langworth suspects there is something odd about the new lad. When he discovers she is a woman, she begs him to keep her secret, a violation of the ships’ articles. When her identity is discovered, Adam and Heather find themselves marooned on a deserted island with nothing to do for the rest of their lives but make love.
Disclaimer: This is a 12,000 word steamy romantic short story, not a full-length novel. Previously published by Amber Quill Press. Contains a sexy pirate, a naughty witch, cussing and fornicating.
Get Marooned at Amazon, iTunes, Kobo, Nook, and Smashwords!
Lyndi Lamont is the racy alter ego of romance author Linda McLaughlin. Writing sexy stories gives her a license to be naughty, at least between the pages of her books! She has written several full-length novels plus numerous short stories and novellas, ranging from historical to futuristic. She believes that love is unending and universal, and enjoys transporting her readers into a different world where her characters learn that, in the journey of life, love is the sweetest reward.
You can connect with Lyndi Lamont at her website, at her blog (Lyndi’s Love Notes), on Facebook, Goodreads, and Twitter!
Thanks to Lyndi Lamont for guest blogging today! Don’t forget Lyndi’s question: why are we so fascinated with the swashbuckling pirate? Give your opinion below!

Lots of heat on #MostWantedMonday – a new snippet of Wanted by J. Kenner
Here’s a new #MostWantedMonday excerpt as we countdown to the January 7 release of Wanted by J. Kenner, book one in the Most Wanted series of erotic romances that wilI be followed by Heated in May and Ignited in September!
I hope you enjoy this week’s snippet!
“I swear to god, Angie, you’re like Kryptonite—you fucking break me.” He pulled back, moving his hands to either side of my head, his fingers twining through my hair as he held me just a little too tight, keeping me completely locked in his grasp.
I was breathing hard, my body primed. My lips parted ever so slightly and I tried to lean in, drawn like a magnet to the energy of this man. He held me fast, though, and I knew in that moment that whatever edge I thought I held over Evan Black was a tenuous thing. He could turn the tables on me whenever he wanted to. Hell yes he was dangerous. And right then, he was mine.
“I’ve done a lot of fucked up shit,” he said. “But this—right here, right now—this may be the worst.”
I tried to shake my head, but he still held firm. “I don’t believe that,” I said.
“I do.” He slid one hand around to cup the back of my head, keeping me steady as the thumb of his other finger brushed gently over my lower lip. Automatically, I opened my mouth, my breath coming in soft, shuddering gasps even as a shiver ran through my entire body. There was no hiding anything from him now, and I didn’t want to. The air between us was thick with heat and lust, and though I stood fully clothed in front of him, I’d never felt more exposed in my life than I did in that moment.
