“You see me,” I said simply. “I think you’ve always seen me.”
His smile was slow, gentle, and sweetly sexy. “Why would I want to look anywhere else?”
I felt my cheeks bloom with delight at the compliment. Then I followed him inside, feeling suddenly awkward. Like a teenager on a first date.
Evan, apparently, didn’t feel that way at all. He crossed the foyer toward the intercom panel as if he owned the place, then pressed the button to locate Peterson. “Ms. Raine and I would like the condo to ourselves for a while, Peterson. Take the rest of tonight and tomorrow off.”
“Certainly, sir.”
I gaped at Evan, not sure if I should be irritated that he was bossing around my butler or excited about the prospect of another twenty-four hours.
I settled on embarrassment when I realized that Evan had pretty much drawn Peterson a picture of what was going on up here. “Subtle, much?” I grumbled.
He only laughed. “Trust me, I can be very discreet when the occasion calls for it. Right now, though, you’re mine. And I don’t care who knows it.”
“Oh.” I swallowed, those first date nerves firing up again. “So, do you want a glass of wine?”
“No,” he said simply. “I already told you what I want. I want you naked.”
Beneath the red lace of my bra, my nipples tightened. “I—oh.”
He nodded toward the bedroom. “On the bed. On your back. I’ll be along soon. Unless you’d rather I leave,” he added, when I didn’t move.
Slowly, I shook my head. And then, in the thick silence, I turned and started toward the bedroom.

“Then maybe it’s something between you and Evan Black,” he continued. The transition was smooth, but I heard the sharpness in his voice. And when I looked at his face, I saw both anger and hurt.
“What the hell are you talking about?” I asked, but the righteous indignation I’d wanted to infuse into my voice didn’t quite make it past the guilt.
“Dammit, Angie. If you’d really wanted to go out, I would have taken you. But the Poodle Dog Lounge?”
“Wait. You followed me?” Anger had me leaping to my feet.
“If you want someone to lie to a federal agent, you need to pay them more than forty bucks.”
“You son of a bitch.” I started pacing, a blur of fury and motion. “You goddamned son of a bitch!”
My rage didn’t even faze him. “I was worried about you. Apparently I had reason to be.” He picked up his wineglass and swallowed what was left, the only sign that he wasn’t as icy calm as he looked. “Evan Black is not someone you can trust, Angie. I thought I made that clear last night. A guy like that is interested only in himself.”

I’m super-excited about a fabulous project that I’m part of — especially since you guys totally get the benefit of it!
Here’s the deal: I’m participating in an exciting new project with 11 other New York Times bestsellers. It’s called 1001 Dark Nights, and is inspired by The Arabian Nights: Tales from 1001 Nights.
In the original, Scheherazade desperately attempts to entertain her husband, the King of Persia, with nightly stories so that he will postpone her execution.
We’re taking a unique spin on the premise and creating new stories that a new Scheherazade might tell. Novellas that are sexy and romantic. Some paranormal, some erotic. All compelling and page turning.
One of these novellas will be published each month starting January 2014. Mine is called Tame Me: A Stark International Novella and is a spin-off from my Stark Trilogy, the first Stark International novella featuring characters from the corporate world of Damien Stark. It’s Nikki’s best friend Jamie and Stark International Security Chief Ryan Hunter. And it’s releasing in March!
