Part 23 – “There comes a time when …” This week’s blog doesn’t have a sponsor since it is a SPECIAL EDITION. Next week, we will be back to normal broadcasting with “Trouble”.

07/02/13
In Part 22, I discovered some important constraints in my OBEs. But I will not be writing about that now. This week’s post is a little different in that it is about the ‘personal’ me. If anyone noticed last week … on Tuesday night I changed my Facebook profile pic and background. I made a comment under that said, “There comes a time … “. No one got it – except for one person. I have been on Facebook a few times since that Tuesday, but only to answer messages about an upcoming Friday meeting, admit people to my author’s group, and approve people to join the Chris Gates Fan Club. I also have two people that I’m in a ‘poke’ battle with. I should drop those, but I just can’t.

So what’s the big deal? Changes. Major. And because of those, I don’t feel very social. I’m sure that some people might notice I didn’t say Happy Birthday, or show sympathy because of the death of a loved one. And I really do try and respond to all of that stuff when I catch it in the feed. But times are different right now. Coupled with the fact that I’m not on the net much, and that I’m so behind in writing book 2 of the Savior Project series, something had to give, not break. I’m already dealing with something that is broken – that’s why I’m in this boat. As of now, Social Media is on the backburner for a while. And it’s not just Facebook; it’s also YBL, YourLife, Google+, and Linkedin. I’m still on Twitter since there is a commitment I’ve made to others, and I live up to commitments. I wish … never mind.

Considering only one person thought something was up from the way I changed things on FB, my scarceness will have little, if any, effect on anyone or anything. It might be safe to say that no one will realize I’m gone. Is this a rant? Probably. But a necessary one. After all, the name of the blog is “The Odyssey of this Writer” and I just happen to be the writer the blog is referring to. So all of this is part of this odyssey. And the blog will continue every Tuesday.

If someone really needs to get ahold of me, most people have one of my email addresses. If you don’t, just send me a Facebook message and when I see it, I’ll respond.

Things will go back to normal or I will accept the changes. Once one of those things happen, life will be easier. Until then, I’ll see you later.

NEXT WEEK –Trouble?

This week’s blog doesn’t have a sponsor. The pic below is of my dog Buzz.

Please let me know what you thought of this week’s blog.

Part 22 – “Let’s go here … where?” – Brought to you by The Memphis Maniax of the XFL.

06/25/13
In Part 21, I came back from Naples but needed to test some things before going anywhere strange again. Instead of doing the needed test, I was pressured to go to Prague by my brother. When I arrived there, I was standing next to the fountain but my brother was nowhere in sight. I was getting ready to holler, “Where are you?” when I saw two Russian soldiers who must have been watching the exact spot that I was now standing on. They started yelling something I didn’t understand, but I quickly figured out that it probably wasn’t good since they were now running towards me with their AK47s raised. No problem. I just willed myself out of there and back to my room where I was expecting to find my brother. He wasn’t there. “Holy &@#*!!! He’s gone off to some weird place and won’t know how to get back.” I raced out of my room banging against the wall in the hall and was about to head out the front door when I caught sight of him sitting at the dining room table eating a bowl of cereal. There is no way I’m going to tell you what happened next because it wasn’t pretty. Let’s just say that from then on, I was doing this alone.

So I had to find out why I couldn’t interact with Rita and her family, but had no trouble with people I didn’t know. I knew that later on that night, the guys I hung out with in the neighborhood would be up the street at one of their houses hanging out in the basement. I was a pretty cool setup and we could usually do what we wanted there … drink beer, have girls over, etc. I figured I’d just OBE in when everyone is there and see what happens. At about 9pm, I went to my room, (my brother was already over at our friend’s house) and readied myself to have an OBE up at my friend’s house. When I ‘arrived’ there, I was standing on the little patio just outside the basement door. Two of my friends were standing out there smoking cigs and didn’t appear to see me. I said their names and they didn’t acknowledge me. I tried to tap them on the shoulder and my hand passed through them. I couldn’t even pick up objects around there. “Well, this won’t be any fun,” I said out loud even though no one heard me. Then I decided to walk up the street and knock on someone’s door that I was positive of the fact that I didn’t know them or had even seen them. I knocked and an elderly lady answered, looked me in the eye, and said, “Yes, young man? Isn’t it a bit late for you to be out and about?” I apologized for disturbing her and quickly mumbled something like, “Wrong address” as I back pedaled down her walkway.

It suddenly hit me that I should walk home and see if I can walk into my room and view myself. … Uh oh … I’ve started a third paragraph. That can’t happen and is not allowed.

NEXT WEEK – Trouble?

This week’s blog has been brought to you by The Memphis Maniax of the XFL. They were my favorite team when the XFL was in full swing. I always felt they had more than the NFL in great uniforms, great cheerleaders, great rule changes, but lacked the talent.

Part 21 – “Now I get it.” – Brought to you by Kidd Blast – the band that put MAX on the map.

06/18/13
In Part 20, I traveled back to Naples and found Rita, but I couldn’t interact with her. That’s when I discovered that I couldn’t interact with people I knew. And I figured that I’d better test that theory. As I was standing on the sidewalk in Naples contemplating this, my thoughts were interrupted by that familiar sound of Italian Polizia in their little Fiat cars with the LOUD sirens. I looked to my right and there they were … turning onto Rita’s street. Armed with experience, I chose the easy way out. I willed myself out of there and back to my room. Back home at something after 3 AM, there was nothing left to do except go to sleep.

The next morning, I was awakened by my brother who was yelling at me for not getting him out of his coat before he passed out. My response was for him to go take a shower since he stunk so bad. Later on I told him what happened. He suggested that we try and go somewhere together. However, I wanted to go try out my theories about what I could do in familiar territory with people I knew. But I figured his idea would be more fun since he had never read the necessary material, learned any of the things you need to know before trying an OBE, like being able to meditate, and I wanted to see how a newbie would react if they actually pulled this off. The problem was, he wanted to go to Prague, Czechoslovakia, where this girl lived that he knew from the language school back in Germany. I said, “You want to go to a country that’s behind the Iron Curtain and you don’t even know how to do this?” He said, “Yes.” Then he showed me a postcard of some fountain in some square in Prague that was down the street from where she lived. I agreed. Why not? What’s the worst thing that could happen?

So later that night, we waited until … wow … I’ve started a third paragraph. That’s just not allowed.

NEXT WEEK –Let’s go here … where?

This week’s blog has been brought to you by Kidd Blast – the band that put MAX on the map. During its heyday as the largest Rock & roll club in C’ville, the best act that we had coming into MAX was Kidd Blast, a high energy 80s R&R band. They don’t exist anymore (of course) but I did help open that club. MAX eventually turned to country when we opened up TRAX. I covered info about TRAX in Part 16 but neglected to say how I was involved with TRAX - I named the club, designed the logo, and booked the bands for the first 2 years of its existence. I also did all the artwork for the clubs promo. Those were the days.

This week’s blog is also brought to you by McDonals New Sandwich – the A--- Snack Wrap. Brand new – not even advertised in the major media outlets … yet.

Part 20 – Gotta get back. – Brought to you by The DFO.

06/11/13
In Part 19, we took a bit of a break to cover the start of my Coffee Shop Tour, which went very well. As for the story, back in Part 18, I shared info about my first OBE. It seemed to be going fine until my brother interrupted it by pulling on my arm and bringing me out of the OBE. When he did, I jumped up and pushed him out of my room calling him a drunk b------ and to not come back. Even in his drunken stupor, he was quite surprised at my actions. But it must not have affected him too much. After a couple of minutes, I opened my door and went into his room and found him passed out on his bed with his coat still on. I thought about waking him and telling him to get ready for bed, but I figured he’d wake up in a couple of hours in a ball of alcohol sweat and be miserable. Yeah, payback is hell.

So I went back into my room and checked the clock. I had just enough time to get back to Naples and maybe catch Rita on her way to Mass. This time I put on socks and shoes and my blue jean jacket. I did my prep, willed myself to Naples, and slid into whatever kind of trance that happens. The next thing I knew, I was in the middle of Rita’s street, exactly where I was before. I looked at her apartment building in time to see her father coming out of the door, followed by her mother, then 500 or so brothers and sisters – they are Catholic ya know – and then I saw her … Rita. She was as beautiful as the last time I saw her. I ran up the outside building stairs, noticing that as I passed by her family, no one looked at me. I jumped up the last step and landed right in front of Rita as she was turning around to close the outer door behind her. She turned back around and appeared to look right through me as she headed down the stairs. I shouted, Rita, it’s me!” She kept on walking down the sidewalk behind her siblings. I ran up next to her and tried to touch her arm. My hand passed through her. I tried again; same result. I raced up to her father (who didn’t like me anyway) and jumped up and down in front of him screaming, “I’m here to take your daughter away!” No response. I put both hands out to stop him. He walked right through me … as did the rest of the family, including Rita. I could see her but not interact with her in any way. As I stood on the sidewalk wondering what to do, some older gentleman (prick maybe?) bumped into me and cursed me … in Italian of course. My immediate reaction was to say something back, but I didn’t … cause that’s when it hit me. I could … oh well, I have to stop. That was supposed to be a new paragraph. This is where the promise to keep it short comes into play.

This week’s blog has been brought to you by The DFO, founded as a concert promotion company in 1976. It’s very first concert, on the Rivanna River bottomlands in Key West was such a success that the company never put on another concert. I was a part of that group and I won’t say what DFO stands for. And success is a relative word.

Part 19 – Coffee Shop tour starts 6/8 – Brought to you by ME.

06/04/13
This week’s blog is dedicated to the start of my 2013 Coffee Shop Tour. It begins this Saturday, 6/8 at 7PM at C’ville Coffee. I’ll be doing a talk about the book series, doing a Q & A, signing books people bring in, and books will be available to purchase. Before and after I do my thing, the famous Rockfish Gap band will be performing. Here’s the official line that appeared in last Sundays Daily Progress:

Author Fritz Franke, of Charlottesville, will be having a book signing and talk on his latest book, The Chosen One. It is the first book in a 6 book series: The Savior Project www.saviorproject.com. This event will be held at C'ville Coffee. Fritz will be doing a book signing and reading along with a Q & A session.

Accompanying Fritz will be the famous Rockfish Gap band led by the most awesome Edwards family. They'll do a couple sets before and after Fritz's time to make the evening really special. Fritz will have books available for people to purchase, but if you've already bought a book, please bring it in and he'll sign it.

Fritz is a long time writer and native of Charlottesville. His previous writing experiences were as a newspaper columnist in the early 1980s with the University Journal; one of the student newspapers at the University of Virginia. In the early to mid-80s, Fritz was the Marketing Manager and Editor for the advertising firm, Word Merchants. In the late 1980s, Fritz designed, edited, produced, and wrote for the employee newsletter of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Virginia. Recently, he has written and edited numerous IT technical articles and documents for the University of Virginia and other technical and marketing documentation in both the private and public sectors.

Rockfish Gap is a new band in the Americana genre made up of well-seasoned Central Virginia musicians. Bobbie Stiltner fronts the band with classic country/bluegrass vocals and steady guitar. Mitch Russell blends tasteful mandolin leads and his own vocal styles from an old-time/bluegrass/folk tradition as well as his own songs with intricate and introspective lyrics. Maggie Edwards drives the rhythm on bass while supplying lead and harmony vocals. Dave Brumbaugh adds the bluegrass drive with banjo and fiddle, and Ralph Edwards adds guitar and vocals to the mix as well as songs from the heart. The resulting combination displays diversity of style with unity of purpose – a hallmark of Americana. The mix of traditional bluegrass, interesting acoustic country, and original songs in multiple genres makes for an eclectic show with comfort and surprises.

C'ville Coffee, 1301 Harris St. 434-817-2633, cvillecoffee.com

Dinner & Table service begins 1 hour before showtime. Our musicians receive 100% of the cover charge.

So I went over the 2 paragraph limit, but this wasn’t a normal blog this week. However …

NEXT WEEK – I gotta get back!

Part 18 – What happened? – Brought to you by the Animal House.

05/28/13
In Part 17, I covered the part of learning how to do “Out of Body Experiences” or OBEs as they are known by. And my experiments actually worked. So now it was time to go to Naples and see Rita. I waited for my parents to retire for the evening. My brothers were out with friends – it was Saturday night after all. My parents thought it very weird that I was home on a Saturday night. I said I had some reading to do and felt tired. They bought it and went to bed around 11pm. My older brother who had been on the original REAL LIVE Naples adventure with me said he’d check in on me around 3 am since he knew what I was up to. I had to wait till at least 2:30 in the morning since there was a 6 hour time difference. I didn’t want to show up at 5am Naples time and everyone be asleep. Rita was Catholic (duh) and went to mass at 9 am on Sundays. I wanted to be on her doorstep at 8:30.

So there I was lying on my bed at 2:30 am on a Saturday night/Sunday morning getting ready to go to Naples Italy. I used my mind to visually put myself right on Rita’s street exactly where I had been a little over a year ago. I remembered every detail even the stinky garbage smell of Italian streets. While still awake, I pictured myself standing in front of her apartment building. I then willed myself there and as I felt my mind being pushed to the limits, I can only tell you that I must have slipped into some kind of trance because the next thing I knew, I was standing in front of Rita’s apartment building. It was morning and cold. I was in the middle of the street so I trotted over to the sidewalk to the front of the steps leading up to the main door. I thought about pinching myself but caught sight out of the corner of my eye of an elderly Italian gentleman walking towards me. I asked him if he knew the time. He looked at me like I was nuts and said a few words that I recognized from my days at the language school – words I cannot repeat here. The remarkable thing was that I had an interaction with someone. By that encounter, I realized that I must have appeared out of place – a young teenager, standing in the middle of the sidewalk on a Sunday morning dressed in jeans and a tee-shirt with no coat … and no shoes. It never occurred to me to ‘equip’ myself before having an OBE. That would look great – like, say I was going to be in Naples till morning or something and my Mom walks in my room and there I am lying on my bed with a heavy down coat on and boots. (“No, nothing’s wrong, Mom … I was just a little cold…”) Anyway, I learned about ‘equipping’ myself on later OBEs. Back to the story … I was freezing and could barely feel my hands and feet so I quickly bounded up the stairs and raised my hand to knock on the door when I felt something tugging on my other arm. I looked back but there was nothing there. But something was pulling hard on my arm. In an instant, I was looking at my brother, who was very drunk and pulling on my arm and saying, “Are you all right? You look dead. What happened?” Well, this is a good stopping point since I was so mad that I … well … we will cover that next week.

NEXT WEEK – I gotta get back!

This week’s blog has been brought to you by the Animal House: founded in 1978 … yes … Charlottesville had a REAL Animal House. It was sooooooooo much like the movie in the sense it was a wild frat-like atmosphere with recent graduates and students totally involved. Led by the great Harry, there was never a dull moment. Below is a picture that was taken inside the Animal House in 1979. That really is a Budweiser label painted on the back wall. I have no idea who those guys are in the picture. Not that I could possibly be related to any of them or grew up with any of them or even be in the picture. Good times again.

Part 17 – I’m about to do what? – Brought to you by the West Virginian.

05/21/13
In Part 16, I told you about the two choices my friend Mike gave me to improve my so called ‘dream traveling’ to where the haziness would stop and I could converse with the people I was seeking. The first choice was to indulge in pot. The second was to read the book, Seth Speaks, by Jane Roberts who let Seth channel through her and she wrote about that experience and what he said. That stuff was all fine and dandy but the parts of the book that talked (in detail) about ‘out-of-body’ experiences really interested me. Now Mike had the great (great?) idea that mixing his two suggestions would be a real winner. I really didn’t want to do that. Trying just one would be such a new experience and since ‘out-of-body’ experiences are not illegal, that was my choice. I could see myself trying to go to Naples and end up in Hanoi of something and getting arrested. But that didn’t happen so …

After studying how to do it, (slipping into a trance) and actually practicing a bit, I decided it was time to travel to Naples. Practicing consisted of going around my neighborhood and not letting anyone see me. I really felt like I was alive/awake/existing somewhere other than where I started – which was my room at my house on a Saturday afternoon. I saw people I knew but I tried to remain out of sight. It seemed very strange to be doing this. I would look at my hands and they looked and felt like they normally do. I pinched myself really hard on the fleshy part of my arm, which was stupid because it hurt. And when I thought I had spent enough time outside, I ‘willed’ myself back and woke up in my bed. Yep … it seemed to work. So that night, I planned to see Rita. I figured that I’d wait for the family to all retire and I’d head to bed like normal but take a little trip.

So I was laying on top of the covers drifting off to sleep, but not really normal sleep. It was a trance-like state. Suddenly things went … wow … this is a third paragraph. That’s a Bozo no-no.

NEXT WEEK –What happened?

This week’s blog has been brought to you by the West Virginian: founded in 1978 or 79 … somewhere in there. It was located beneath the Virginian and was one of the best bars on the Corner in Charlottesville VA. Live music, cheap drinks, but only one exit. It wasn’t long before the Fire Marshall shut it down. Good times.

Below is a random picture that is just hilarious. I had to share. It’s going around on Twitter right now. BTW, if you want to follow me on Twitter, I am @TerlokyanFritz. I always follow back. And don’t forget to visit the book series website if you haven’t already – www.saviorproject.com

Part 16 – Can I have some of that? – Brought to you by the TRAX nightclub.

05/14/13
In Part 15, I shared with you my unique ability to day dream right before going to sleep where these dreams would continue. And they were so real that I felt I was really there. But I needed to change some things. I was always able to remember my dreams in the morning because I would jot down notes right when I woke up. This would embed the dream into memory by forcing myself to recall what happened. Sure, I was in control of the day dream – right up to the point of falling asleep, but then the adventures would begin. My conscious mind was not formulating or directing anything that was happening. And now I was trying to use this ability to travel to places I had been with the goal of interacting with people I knew. Whether it was real or not, never occurred to me … being 15 years old and feeling like I was immortal and could do anything.

So I was talking to one of my best friends about this … we’ll call him Mike … and he said that I had two choices to try and fix the haziness (as he called it) of being able to interact with people I knew. The first was to start smoking pot (this was the 70s after all) and the second choice was to read the book ‘Seth Speaks’ by Jane Roberts. I opted for the second choice (not having ever seen pot). But I did ask, “Can I have some of that? Just in case the book thing doesn’t work.” Mike told me to take a hike since the stuff wasn’t free. So I opted to get the book.

This dude named Seth channeled through Jane Roberts and she wrote books about it. The one thing … crap … I’ve hit the 2 paragraph wall … just when it was getting interesting. Heck, I’ve had people tell me it’s all interesting. Of course these people think I’m insane so what the heck.

NEXT WEEK – I’m about to do what?

This week’s blog has been brought to you by TRAX nightclub: founded in 1981 and began operation in the spring of 1982. I left the club at the end of 1983. It went on for a few years and eventually folded after the building and land were sold to UVa. This week’s blog is also brought to you by the fine folks behind THE SAVIOR PROJECT. Hop on over to www.saviorproject.com and find out what all the buzz is about. The new book, THE CHOSEN ONE, can explain a lot of it, and can be found at these fine retailers:

The ebook is only $2.99 and the paperback is only $7.99.

Thanks for joining me. And here’s a pic the TRAX nightclub logo – the best nightclub ever … for which I named the club, designed the logo, and drew all the drafts and final version. I still have the original artwork. I was a graphic artist back then … a REAL one. We didn’t have the benefit of computers. It was all hand drawn. And I didn’t have those colorful wavy lines in the original. I found this version on the net I also booked the bands for the club. My days at TRAX could be a book unto itself. That was the coolest job ever. It wasn't a job, it was a blast. Oh well. Lots of books to write and so little time. CYA next week.

Part 15 – Who gave me this book? – Brought to you by Environmental Systems of America.

05/07/13
In Part 14, I got myself back on track to tell the story of becoming a writer, having strayed a bit due to the action, etc. Now I’m back in the states, really ticked off that I didn’t get to see Rita, and determined to do something about it. What I did was realize that I was just starting high school and had absolutely no power (money = power) to do anything about seeing her any time soon. Sure we wrote to each other and she said she would like to immigrate to America. But I knew that would take years. All I had were dreams.

Yes, I’m a dreamer. Just ask anyone that knows me. (Heck, I’m trying to make it as a writer … I must be a dreamer.) With such a vivid imagination (as my Mother used to say) I have always been able to force myself to dream, either in the daytime when doing nothing (like sitting in boring chemistry class … hey, to a 15 year old … that’s doing nothing) and especially at night right before going to sleep. I could come up with all kinds of action packed scenarios that I would be involved in from flying B-17 bombers over Europe during the war to being the last person on the planet fanatically trying to find another human being. (I always did of course ... and was she ever … wait … there I go again) But the strength of my dream capabilities was that after falling asleep, whatever I was making myself dream would usually continue. You’ve heard people say that the last thing in the mind is usually what you’ll dream about. That’s when I decided to dream about being in Europe, Italy to be exact. But the dreams just weren’t right. I was trying to be in places that I had been and interact with people but it kept getting hazy or cloudy … fuzzy or whatever you want to call it. It just wasn’t real enough. So I was talking with one of my best friends about this and … oh well, shucky darn and slop the chickens … I have to stop. That was supposed to be a new paragraph. This is where that promise to keep it short comes back to haunt me. And you?

NEXT WEEK – Can I have some of that?

This week’s blog has been brought to you by Environmental Systems of America. This fine environmental consulting firm was at one time THE premier group of environmental and recycling experts in the USA. That is until one of the partners decided to cook the books and brought the whole thing down. Oh well, greed does things to people. Do you know of anyone who would really sponsor this blog? If so, please email me. I could use all the help I can get.

Be sure to visit www.saviorproject.com.

Thanks for joining me. And here’s a pic of the planet Terlokya. As a matter of fact, this is on the cover of book 2. Looks like Earth … but it’s not. Chris Gates is there right now. Well almost. That moon you see there in the upper right hand corner is called Donar. Wish you could go? Get the book The Chosen One and start your journey. CYA next week.

Well, was that blog catchy or what?

Part 14 – So this is it? – Brought to you by Peoples Drug Store.

4/30/13
In Part 13, my brother and I had barely escaped from unknown parts of Naples Italy with our lives. My obnoxious behavior at Rita’s apartment building almost got us arrested. But we got away. The next day we did the pleading with the parents for a chance to go back so I could see Rita. No dice. We drove through Italy and made it to Monaco in time to celebrate New Year’s Eve in the heart of the Mecca of gambling. And the Mecca of drinking too I might add. Since I missed out on having my only chance of seeing my Italian Goddess, I figured I’d get wasted. That’s always a good plan when you’re only 14. While my parents roamed the glitzy casinos with all the tuxes and high flutin’ dresses, both of my brothers and I figured this was a once in a lifetime opportunity: to party BIG TIME.

But alas, I stray again. This is supposed to be about “The Odyssey of This Writer”, not about the drunken, womanizing debauchery of me when I was in my early teens. Sooooo … let’s get this puppy back on track and tell the real story. (Sure … I’ll write a book about the other part … someday.) The point is, is that I didn’t get to see Rita in Italy. And that haunted me all the way back to the states. We were still writing each other and she chastised me a bit for causing such a HUGE disturbance in her neighborhood that night back in Naples. As a matter of fact, Rita told me her parents had forbid her to see “That American” since I was sure to lead her down the path of destruction … just like our country did to everyone else. I tell you … I REALLY wish I had met her parents. I would have had a few words for them. And I actually did get to meet her parents. It all happened … Oh crap … this is where a new paragraph is supposed to start. I guess we’ll have to wait till next week.

NEXT WEEK – Who gave me this book?

This week’s blog has been brought to you by Peoples Drug Store. Why? Because they don’t exist. They were bought by a big conglomerate years ago. Do you actually think I have REAL sponsors? I mean look at what I’m writing about … drinking, pushing the limits of the law, etc. Do you think someone would really sponsor this? If so, please email me. I could use the dough.

Be sure to check out the book trailer for THE CHOSEN ONE -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDTsM3... . People say it’s really cool. And of course, links to buy the book, THE CHOSEN ONE, are right there at www.saviorproject.com.

Thanks for joining me. And here’s another random pic that I just happen to like. This is a pic of a kid (he’s 26, but still a kid to me,) who grew up with my oldest son. He’s a Marine serving in Afghanistan on the front lines. I am so proud of him and thankful that we have such a dedicated young person protecting us … from what I’m not sure of … but that’s another story. He’s in there, he does what he’s ordered to do, and I just want him to come home safe … and alive. I want all of them to come home safe … and alive. CYA next week.

Well, did you like the blog or what?
