Meet the Author: Jane Dougherty
Reblogged from Susan Finlay Writes:

I’d like to introduce you to the seventy-first interviewee in my ‘Meet the Author’ series. She is Jane Dougherty.
Hi, Jane! Welcome to Susan Finlay Writes blog site. Congratulations on your brand new publication! Can you tell us a bit about your background as a writer?
Hello Susan, and thank you for inviting me. I was brought up in a house full of books in a family with an almost religious respect for the written word.

Be Brave
There’s a great amount of courage that goes into publishing a novel. Whether you’re getting ready to send out that first query letter or your finger is poised over the “publish” button on Kindle Select, it takes tremendous bravery to put your book out there. Authors know about rejection. We know about bad reviews. But, we write on. We must have faith in our talent and our abilities. And, we have hope that others will recognize our efforts by buying our books and reviewing them favorably.
Authors are among the most courageous people I know. Tonight, I’m dedicating this song to all those authors out there. My wish for you is that by listening to Brave by Sara Bareilles, you’ll muster that little bit of extra bravery you need to finish your manuscript, write that query letter, or take that leap of faith by self-publishing. Be strong. Be brave. Be writers!

The Memory Walker
Book Five has a new working title – The Memory Walker. What does ‘working title’ mean? It means I’m not entirely sold on the title and that it is subject to change. Thoughts? Do you like it? Hate it? Wonder what the heck it means?
A memory walker has the ability to steal a person’s memories. They can’t read minds in terms of picking up on your immediate thoughts, but they can walk among your memories, using your past as a weapon against you. You might wonder what role a memory walker plays in Book Five. And, you might wonder who this memory walker is. I can’t tell you right now, though I’d like to spill all my secrets. But, that would take away all the fun, wouldn’t it?

A Nameless Novel
I’m really, really bad at choosing names for my books. For example, did you know The Claiming Words used to be called ‘The Watchers?’ And, the original name for Demon Fire was ‘The Protectors.’ The Bonds of Sacrifice was complete and had already undergone three major revisions before it ever had a name at all. So, it should come as no surprise that Book Five in the series is simply titled Book Five.
Why would I set up a page for an untitled, unfinished book? Because I’m super excited it and I want to share it with you. And, because I’m hoping someone will help me name the book. Really.
Check out the Book Five page to read a few excerpts. Let me know what you think. And, for those of you who find novel-naming easy, share your mad skills with me and help me name my book.

Beginnings
The Claiming Words is set for publication in August 2012, so mark your calendars. When I have an exact date, I’ll be sure to post it to this site. Until then, I’ll try to keep my nervousness and excitement at bay by filtering all my energy into completing the final book in the series.
Final. That word seems so…final. I’m not sure I want the book I’m working on to be the end. I think it will be the end of the story for a couple of my characters; they deserve some closure. But what about some of my other imaginary friends? I feel like there might be a couple of characters who have stories which are just getting started.
Some endings lead to new beginnings.

Be sure to check out my blog…
It’s been fun (and confusing) trying to set up my sites and forcing technology to obey me, but I hope the worst of it is behind me. Basically, here’s what I’ve done:
I’ve moved my blog to Blogger and decided to use theclaimingwords.com for the book only. There’s a direct link to the blog from my author site: http://www.triciadrammeh.com/ or you can access it directly at http://www.blog.triciadrammeh.com/.
If you hop over and check out my author site, be sure to visit the Authors to Watch and Young Adult Author Spotlight pages. Over the past week, I’ve conducted interviews with authors Melanie Dent and Lisa Wiedmeier.
Happy reading!
