Sitting here talking to myself...

While I'm just sitting here contemplating the cold grey world (it is cold, about 35F) outside my kitchen window, I thought I'd ask myself why the ebook feature of Goodreads doesn't work for me. I have tried a couple of times to upload an epub version of my books. Hasn't worked. The site keeps telling me my book can't be downloaded. I've gone over the setup carefully to see if I poked at the wrong button. Nope. Nor has a search for help given me anything except FAQs that don't answer the question, either.

I suppose I must give it up. The book will be available on all kinds of eReaders anyway in a couple of weeks, through other sites.

So, having asked myself the question, I have answered it -- don't bother with epubbing on Goodreads.

Call Me Pharaoh is now also a B&N Nook Book

It looks nice, too.

Call Me Pharaoh did fairly well with sales on the Kindle when I set it up with Amazon. However, there are other eReaders out there, including the iPad. My friends and family are more likely to own the Nook or the iPad than the Kindle. The book should be available for the iPad in a couple of weeks. That's right. Weeks. Apple, it seems, is slow to approve the projects we submit.

Pharaoh Farrow is my favorite hero. I have others that haven't been published yet. Andy Rose is one. Her story is not really science fiction, although there is some of it in the story. She gets involved with a dangerous family of sorcerers. The story of Andy Rose, unfortunately, is a few months away from getting published.

The Aldebaran Countdown as a Nook Book

I published the print book and a Kindle edition of this novel on Amazon early in February. It sold a few.

Recently I decided to try selling the ebook in other formats. Someone recommended Draft2Digital. I found the site to be extremely easy to use--just had to upload the ms--so now The Aldebaran Countdown is for sale as a Barnes & Noble Nook book.

Eventually, (I understand it takes a couple of weeks) the ebook will be available on the Apple site for iPad. And on Kobo, too, which is a device I've never seen but assume is similar to the Kindle and Nook.

I'm curious to see if I get any sales.

The next project is to do the same for Call Me Pharaoh. Had to wait a few days on that one until the KDP select expired, which it has, at last. KDP select may once have been worth membership, but not anymore. At least as far as my books are concerned.

Kathy Reichs

I've always enjoyed the TV series Bones, so I was naturally interested in the books on which the TV series was based. I've read four of them so far: Déjà Dead, Death du Jour, Deadly Décisions, and Fatal Voyage.

I like these books. They are grim, graphic, and intense. I do admit that I have a tendency to skim over all the various police agencies and their acronyms that Ms. Reichs likes to include, but it didn't stop me from enjoying the stories.

If you're looking for more episodes of the TV show you probably won't be happy with these novels. On the other hand, if you are looking for suspense filled murder mysteries with a strong female protagonist, you should enjoy Kathy Reichs' stories with Temperance Brennan.

Just my thoughts on it. :-)

Getting to know Goodreads

I am still doing that, getting to know what's here and what I can do. (And I apologize for clumsy formatting as I get started.)

Seems I can even write a blog and talk about all sorts of things, like politics, God forbid. But since Goodreads is devoted to books I will stick to talking about books.

In addition to science fiction, I like murder mysteries, suspense and adventure. I am currently reading The Cabinet of Curiosities by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child.

I am thoroughly enjoying the book. I like eccentric characters like FBI special agent Pendergast.

Other things to do today so have to cut this short.
