I Have Thoughts About Sarah Sanders

Recently (6/22/18), Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House Press Secretary (and daughter of former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee), went out to dinner with her family of five to a restaurant in Virginia. After consulting with her staff, who voted to eject the family, the restaurant manager asked the Sanders to leave, and the Sanders departed. … Continue reading "I Have Thoughts About Sarah Sanders"

NYC Midnight Short Screenplay Competition “INSHALLAH”–fourth place

My short screenplay هللا ءاش نإ INSHALLAH got fourth place in the first round of the NYC Midnight Short Screenplay Competition. Prompt was historical fiction, homesickness, and a poet. So I imagined “What would homesickness look like for someone in Al-Andalus during the Reconquista, where they have already lost their home in Africa and are… Read More »

Why Do White People Like to Call Black People “Racist”?

I poke around on Twitter, and follow a wide range of people from a wide range of backgrounds. (Spoiler: I’m fluent only in English, so I don’t follow a lot of non-English-speaking Twitter users, but I do have a few.) One of the things I see—a lot!—from white people, especially white conservative American males, is… Read More »

YeahWrite Super Challenge #8 Round Three Entry–COMPLETE

Whew. That was … interesting. There are three rounds to this challenge. In Round One, we are given an object and a situation. For me, the object was a clay (terra cotta) pot and a visit with a parent. Managed to get by on that one, even though it felt very mundane. For Round Two,… Read More »

YeahWrite Super Challenge #8 Round Three Coming Up

I’m set up this weekend to write a 1000 word (max) short story based upon a genre mash-up—two genres that must both be fairly represented in a story. For example, a fairy tale that’s also a horror story. But that’s been done, of course—Hansel and Gretel was a fairy tale-horror story when the Grimms told… Read More »
